You can tell that this is a band in harmony. It's just a bunch of guys having fun with 82.000 of their closest friends. That transformation started Oct. 1st 2012. They could do a fun thing with this number, let it lead into "I want my tears back" seamlessly. No paus, no talk just dive right into it, Floor comes out and we're off.

Funny you showed up doing a Nightwish video today. Just last night i watched your classic reaction to Ghost love score from 2 years ago. Its still one of the best reactions ever. Troy is credited on the DPP album alright. Uilleann pipes, low whistles & bodhran, which is a small hand drum used in Irish traditional/folk music. I only discovered recently after 8 years of listening to the Imaginaerum album that Troy is the main voice in the spoken word section of Song of myself. So Harvest wasn't his first vocal outing on a NW album.

Troy joined them as a guest on the imaginarium world tour half way through Floor stepped in the dynamics on and off the stage( Troy is from the north of england and is very funny ) were suddenly where Tuomas and the others wanted it to be playing music and having a good time they were both asked to come and see the other band members well before Wacken and asked if they wanted to join full time. Floor says she cried when asked and troy was ecstatic .They were going to wait till christmas to announce it publicly but situations forced the announcement early.Troy features much more on the last two albums and even plays a standard electric guitar now in parts with Emppu , there best mates, doubling up the sound .During this instrumental Floor is backstage having a wardrobe change for the second half .Her stage outfits can be won one per month from her website by paying for a signed photo which has a ticket number on the back she does the draw live on instagram. Jukka now works behind the scenes on band business with his best mate Kai taking over due to health problems .Probably the best live band in the world right now.

Glad you picked up on Troy on this. He actually was a guest performer on Dark Passion Play and Imaginareum. If I remember correctly, Last of the Wilds and The Islander are all on Dark Passion Play, and you actually see Troy playing the uilleann pipes in the official video for The Islander. What I don't know is if he toured with the band during Dark Passion Play and Imaginareum. I would assume that was by then.

Wacken was Early august 2013. The band asked Floor and Troy to join Nightwish as band-members after a show in Finland in late June. Both Troy and Floor accepted on the spot and they were formally announced as members late October/Nov when the paperwork etc. had been formalised. So during this show they were both fully accepted as band-members. The confidence and pleasure of performing together is clearly visible. By all accounts Floor and the rest of the band clicked well from the beginning. The first shows they just had to make it work and the pressure must have been enormous, but they say it clicked from the beginning.

He was definitely there on the Imaginarium tour. I saw him at the Denver show 9.28.2012 when Annette was hospitalized. There's a documentary about it called Please Learn the Setlist in 48hours. The show I went to is called The Denver Debacle.

@@tink5188 Denver was very strange to watch. Floor flew out soon after and history was made. Troy also played on some shows of the previous tour. "Donockley's first appearance with Nightwish was on their 2007 release, Dark Passion Play, as a guest musician, providing some whistles and pipes to the songs "The Islander", "Last of the Wilds", and "Meadows of Heaven". He also joined them on select shows of the subsequent tour and appeared in the music video for "The Islander".". I'm not sure if there are recordings with him.

@@ohana_is_family It was even stranger being there but I loved that they didn't cancel the show on us. It felt special being part of something that had never happened before. I also saw their Dark Passion Play Tour in 2008 but I can't remember if Troy was at my show. I only got a few pictures of the band and he wasn't in any of them so he might not have been there or I took pictures during the songs he wasn't playing for. I cannot wait to see Floor one of these days. I missed the Endless Forms Most Beautiful tour. So hopefully after COVID!!!

What is it with this band, they give me shivers, goosebumps, tears, all the time and every time. Never had that with any other music and performers. Occasionally, yes, but nothing like this. Oh man, I can barely see the screen right now .... The bagpipes are Irish bagpipes, or Uillean pipes, or also called Elbow pipes, as the airbag is controlled by elbow-pumped bellows. They also have a wider reach than Scottisch bagpipes, 2 octaves, where Scottish ones have 1 octave plus 1 note. And the Irish ones sound much sweeter than the Scottish ones. This was originally on the Dark Passion Play album which Troy was a session musician for. I saw them on that tour and Troy would appear the tracks that included him. This was also the case for later tours until he became an official member of the band in 213.

Troy has been playing pipes with Nightwish since 2007, in the album "Dark Passion Play", so yeah, he played the pipes originally in "Last of the wilds", "The Islander", "For the heart I once had (instrumental version)" and "Meadows of Heaven". Actually he played a character in the video clip of "The Islander". They played "Last of the wilds" in the Dark Passion Play tour a few times, when they had the possibilty to have Troy on stage (he was not a permanent member of the band by that moment). Those are Irish bagpipes. Scottish bagpipes are the highland pipes. Irish pipes are on the lap like this. They are called Uilleann pipes. Nightwish seem to channel a lot of Irish music.

Yep Troy original. Not Scotish, Irish Uilleann pipes and tin whistle. Troy's been playing on and off since 2006/7 ish :) Troy, on more recent perfomances plays, errrrr everything PRS + Ebow, Irish Bazouki et al. His "Flute" sounding instrument in a lot of songs is actualy a "Tin" Whistle made from turned aircraft aluminium and is an octave+ below the trad tin whistle. Normally a "Low" D or "Low" B flat .... by my ear

Quick catchup: Troy was a guest musician on DPP. uilleann pipes are the national pipes of Ireland. What you think of as bagpipes are Scottish and you blow into them, whereas uilleann pipes are inflated by squeezing with the elbow, no breath involved.

It's not quite Scottish bagpipes what Troy plays, it's uilleann pipes. They are more widely spread in Ireland. The great difference between the two is that uilleann pipes are pumped with the right arm while bagpipes are inflated with breath.

Naturally Tuomas can sing ...like most of us. 13:21. But he says that is not at that level which is needed for NW and therefore invited guest singers like Tony and Tapio before Marco joined. Check original official video of "Getshemane" for instance done in 1997. This song has actually link to the first album of 1997. Awesome without a singer - Troys pipes do it here as you say.

They used the pause for her to change outfits. You can see that if you compare e.g. Dark Chest of Wonders and Storytime. I like to think that she welcomed the pause, but didn't really need it per se.

@@pmasher Yes, I noticed that too, but only when I watched the DVD for the first time. :-) How certain are you, though, that this was due to her changing and not just a general timing mistake? Eh. Nevermind. Now that I put it into words, it seems quite out of character for anyone in the band to just misjudge the timing ever so slightly. You're probably right. ;-)
