greetings from China. I started to listen Skálmöld since 2018, shortly before their album Sorgir came out. Kvaðning was my first touch of the band because it is their most popular song. But the band is almost not known back there at home, after all every few chinese folk fancy metal music. I feel lucky to have heard Kvaðning 3 years ago and finally found myself a true fan of Skálmöld. btw, þ pronunces like th in theatre, and á in icelandic is like ou in house. this album Baldur tells a story of the farmer Baldur whose family was slaughtered by the ghost from hell and his journey of vengeance. Google says kvaðning means the call. and this single song is like the battlecry before his final battle with the enemies.

Hello China. Hope you can make it to Iceland.

Best part about this show is that the composer didn't just insert classical instrumentation around the existing metal music like, say, Metallica's S&M. It's far more integrated.
@scouttrooperjohnny8 ай бұрын
The best part is that Skálmöld rehearsed like insane for months with the iceland national symphony orchestra to do this great concert. So what you see is their real reaction from the stage :)
@TJAevarr5 ай бұрын
funny side note. people that had season tickets to the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra (people who are usually fans of Classical music) could go to this concert and a lot of them did
@sir_micho4 жыл бұрын
I like that they thought of orchestra like a regular and important part of the music like Lacrimosa or Therion does - orchestra is there for a reason and is a fundamental part of the music. Not like Metallica did - putting orchestra as a decoartion or something.

This whole concert is available on KZbin. I stumbled across it one day and watched the whole thing because it was so enthralling. Excellent, fantastic, spectacular...the superlatives can go on for a while with this show. It was THAT good! I immediately became a huge fan of this band. My wife and I were chuckling about how some of the "classical" musicians were totally getting into the music and smiling ear to ear. I'm stoked that you guys reacted to this and enjoyed it. Please do more! Cheers! Edit: here's the link to the whole 2 hour concert: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6qrpKCQrpKMiZo

Same for me. I watched the concert so often, then I saw them on tour and I told the guitarist that if they ever do it again I will be there. And they did it on the day today 2 years ago. I booked a flight to Iceland and I was there. It was so awesome!!!

These conserts in 2013 and again in 2018 were all totally awsome. I know the guys in Skálmöld really well and spent lot of time with them in 2018 for the concerts with the symphony. I also talked to people from the choirs and the classical people as well as the conducor and they all told us that these projects are ranking in their top 3 and for many this will NEVER BE TOPPED AGAIN.

I love it 😍. It speaks to the tiny viking inside of me 😁. The theme is very similar to some french celtic music. Made for dance and jump holding hands together. I loved the moment the crowd joined too. 🤟

Eagle fly free. Helloween. The greatest metal song of them all. Just my opinion everybody has theirs. Your reaction video to this song (with lyrics ) would be terrific. It has everything. Even the horn section at the end and how it builds up to the ending... just phenomenal! Keep up the good videos.

Iceland has some really talented musicians - Solstafir, Kjartan Sveinsson (just listen to DER KLANG DER OFFENBARUNG DES GÖTTLICHEN, just wow), Hildur Gudnadottir to name the few. There are also Bjork and Sigur Ros. Such a small country with very good artists.

The funky letters not in our alphabet are both pronounced like a "th" but one is soft and the other is hard. I no longer remember which is which, it's been five years since I was in Iceland (wickedly cold, interesting landscape, friendliest people on planet earth. If you two ever get the chance to visit Iceland, do, and head to the capital). I think they're kind of left over from the old Norse runes.

When you think you have heard this before its probably thinking of Basil Pompadouris Conan the Barbarian soundtrack. Used to play D&D with the bassist (and composer of the band) growing up and that was a very frequent soundtrack to our games and a very possible influence. Great to see you do Skálmöld. Both Hefnd (with guest lead singer from Sólstafir) and Hel (with guest lead singer of Angist are better song from the concert. Out of the three concerts of the set I was at two.

Lol you mentioned this a year ago and I'm just seeing this now, sorry. The Conan soundtrack has been a staple in my life since I was a teen so you might be right. I can certainly hear the Basil vibe so thanks for sharing ✊🤘

Lyrics: I’m lying back after long dreams, I’m lying stiff; my mind is dull. I feel hatred simmer vigorously, revenge was squeezing, when I swore it before. A heathen lives on blind ways, I’m looking at the gathering of black mountaintops, Hel lives there in many different shapes: darkness, cold, ice and snow. Hel’s soul from the heavens fell, I had a farm and I had a staff. Hatred was engraved into my mind, yet, it was keeping me alive. Your ominous longboat is what brought all this evil; I feel you on the sea and on the land. I come to you, my ancient enemy, our encounter is approaching. The morning sun shines upon the middle of the heath; memories keep crawling in. Great and fierce is the wrath, tearing open the wounds of hatred. Once, I had to meet my wife That wonderfully kept my children safe, but now, I’ve got work to do, we slay, we smear blood, we sting and we flay. Now, we’re going on a deadly encounter, this trip will number6our days. We’re valiant men from a violent time, and Valhalla awaits us. Now, we’re going on a deadly encounter, this trip is our mission and history. We’re valiant men from a violent time, and, now, Valhalla is awaiting us all.

Aw yeah! Next pleace react to the intro and following song of the amazing finnish band "Gjallarhorn" first debut album 'Ranarop'. Very expensive to get a hold of on a physical cd copy today. Back in the day, latter half of the 90's, the band won a cultural award from the state of Finland due to their debut album was so culturally significant and awesome. So go, react to the intro to the album and the following song after it. :)

Skálmöld is awesome. I don't usually watch reaction videos but this was actually quite nice. I don't really like the term 'viking metal' but I'm glad to see more people move outside of the stupid Hollywood tropes. Far too many have the wrong idea and I hate to see how bad people are now trying to co-opt our heritage.
