I have never heard anyone mention the fear of being hungry before when talking about weight loss. I never knew how to describe that feeling of always wanting to feel full or wondering when my next meal would be. I'm in the process of unlearning that habit and getting used to allowing myself to sit and feel hunger. It's nice to know someone else gets it, I feel less crazy

My non-negotiables here at the beginning of my weight loss (I try to follow these, don't always succeed): 1. Cutting carbs as much as possible, but especially from my three main meals per day. It's pure poison to my body. It gives me upset stomach, racing heart, drains my energy, I sleep worse, and my mood takes a colossal dive. I get irritable, I feel ashamed and depressed when I eat carbs/sugar. 2. Take my dog for a walk every day, the route is 45min-ish. Some days I have the energy to go two rounds, making it 90min. 3. No soft drinks, only water and tea (used to be with honey, now with artifical sweetener). 4. I have a very hard time ignoring when a craving hits me, so when I do get a very intense craving for sugar, I let myself buy some cake or a chocolate bar. Important: I don't beat myself up about it, but I allow myself a little freedom. Also important: I can't allow myself to follow these cravings too often, so I try to go at least a month in between each of these little "indulgences". 5. If I do give in to a craving, I no longer buy a stash. There is no sugar in my house, because I can't control myself. I would end up binge-eating it all. So I can buy one chocolate bar, or one small cake from the bakery. It used to be that I'd buy 4 cakes, or 3 chocolate bars, "just so that I had for later". No more. 6. Every day I try to come back to why this is important to me. Health, yes. Self-esteem, yes. Self-care, yes. But I also daydream that I'm at the shopping mall, and I'm buying an entirely new wardrobe for myself. So that I can finally feel fashionable and chic.

❣❣❣❣❣ One of my non-negotiables is prioritizing SLEEP -- LOVE my 8 ( or more!) hours..... and it helps so much with slimming. Sometimes life happens differently and I may get get a lil or a lot less sleep than that, then I have to adjust my food and exercise a bit for those days.// A new habit as of about 7 months ago, when i began this journey, is eating lots of probiotic rich foods, has been a HUGE help.....miso, sauerkraut, yogurt, kimchi, kefir, cottage cheese.

I pick two healthy recipes from my cookbooks and I make them in bulk. They usually last me 1 to 1 1/2 weeks before I have to go to the store again. At which point I pick 2 different recipes for the next week. It helps me to have healthy leftovers ready to go rather than making my food one day at a time.

I love that phrase ‘white knuckling it through weight loss’ - it’s the reason my weight has been like a yo-yo for so many years. It works as long as my ‘willpower’ or ‘inspiration’ lasts, and the smallest thing - a bad day at work, an argument, a mean comment, basically anything that threw me off my regiment and the cycle continued. It was never going to sustainable.

🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 Non negotiables for me while getting healthy after surviving cancer but still being depressed; 1. Always have healthy snacks in the house, and limit the amount of unhealthy snacks I have access to. If I do crave a 'bad' snack, I limit the amount I take by portion control; putting it in a small bowl or only a handful or a certain number. I have no issues with keeping the main meals of the day smaller but still filling and healthy, but I'm a big snacker when bored and/or stressed. 2. Do something fun for myself every day. This can be reading, gaming or other hobbies. Life goes on, but I need to consciously make time to enjoy it even when I'm busy or stressed. 3. Take enough rest and have a good daily rhythm. Get to bed and out of bed at around the same times, have meals at the same times, etc. This trains me to halt my cravings if I'm close to a mealtime, and to prevent myself from taking naps throughout the day when feeling down. 4. Go outside every day, even if it is only in the garden or a short walk. Fresh air and daylight for at least half an hour a day. I got my partner to play Pokemon GO, which got him to want to go on walks multiple times a day, and he now motivates me to do so as well. 5. Remind myself I am a beautiful person and if I want to loose weight and be healthier that this is a decision I make for myself and not to please others. I do not follow their pace or their advice, I do what feels right for me. The only advice I take is from my own doctors, and not everyone around me that thinks they are helping me and not realizing it puts more pressure on me. No, I am doing this by myself and for myself

1. Fueling my body with what's best for my needs, not giving in to what's convenient for others. This has been my biggest battle for the longest time. My not eating something is not a judgement of others. I'm so very weary of that. You do you, I"ll do what's best for me. We can enjoy mealtime together and have different things. Really, it's ok. 2. I have eliminated things that cause me major inflammation and GI distress. I will not consume them any more. It's not a "fad". Living in the bathroom, not able to function more than a short dash from the bathroom is extraordinarily distressing and no way to live. I have finally gotten past the anger of "I can't have that but they can" and now see those inflammatory things as the poison they are to my body. 3. No alcohol. Too many health issues and serious medications. "Just a little" is still too much. No thanks. Again, my body is not a judgement of others. It's what's best for me. Besides, I make a mean mocktail! So many fun things to mix with nowadays.😎 4. Variety. I can't stagnate on the same old routine all the time. I have my trusted go-to meal combos, but I need to mix it up too. I've discovered many new things exploring new foods, substitutes, and new ways of cooking. Actually enjoying cooking now when I have time (usually don't during the week, so, yeah, meal planning). 5. Coffee. It's the one consumable pleasure I won't give up. It doesn't cause me GI upset (which is a pleasant surprise) or any health issues. I consume in moderation, but I still enjoy my morning iced coffee. Down 79 pounds in the past 15 months. No pills, shots, or surgery. Just a lot of work with my dietician and doctor on changes to diet. Also got through TKR this summer, need to replace other knee next summer. Off several meds and lower dose on another.

For anyone on this channel who binge eats - I had to change my mental thinking in a different way too (we're all different). I needed to become more self-forgiving and stop trying to compromise with everyone or say what about me needed to change to myself. That self-criticism, along with every grocery day choosing a package of cookies, were two primary behaviors I began changing. If I wanted a cookie or a dessert, I was free to go out and get a single serving whenever I wanted whether it cost gas $$ or not. I say choose to work on 0-1 habits every month along with stopping the self-criticism. Self-criticism isn't needed to adopt these habits. I would suggest this priority: 1st habit can be grocery store runs, the 2nd going for water + walks, the 3rd counting your fruits and veggies, the 4th getting to sleep more regularly (consider your baseline and choose 15 mins earlier as practice, cut the caffeine after 12 pm), the 5th counting protein and meal planning. Then work on these with varying levels of success for like 1-2 YEARS.

❤❤❤❤❤ My weight has yo-yo’d my entire adult life, and I’m currently at too high a weight - haven’t been at an acceptable weight since the start of all that mess in 2020. So my non-negotiables this time around are: - Vegetables at every meal - If I’m feeling particularly famished, I start the meal with a cup or bowl of either miso or vegetable soup - No more than two meals a day (I only eat breakfast a couple days a week - NO SNACKING between meals - If I want a little sweet something, it gets incorporated into the meal as “dessert”, and it has to be within 150 calories - I only eat from very small plates and bowls like the Japanese do - I eat mostly with chopsticks (this helps you take smaller bites and eat more slowly) - If I still feel hungry after a meal, I wait 20 minutes, and if I’m still hungry, I have a piece of fruit or some crudités with yogurt dip - When dinner is over, I brush my teeth immediately afterwards to signal to my brain that eating is completed for the day

I then cut the amount of carbs I was eating in half and that turned into eating low carb along with IF, and then going keto with IF, and I dropped 140+ lbs (with no loose skin). Over the last 7-8 months I put back 40 lbs. and beat myself up because of it. When I stop to think about it I know the 'why'...but your video made me think of other reasons too. Thank you

Also the habits I had to grow into sometimes included letting people go who didn’t support my goals of better health habits. It’s an interesting position to be in, but big growth as a result! One of my non-negotiables is protein. I used to eat a deplorable amount of it, I was hungry ALL the time. But now I make sure I get enough and when I started doing that I started looking at balancing my nutrients and suddenly, things got easier. It was easier to go long period without eating, it was easier for me to work out, it was easier for me to sleep. You really have me thinking about the habits we have. The ones which we learned from our family growing up….i come from a family who used to give me massive plate fulls of food, food was love, we didn’t have a lot of money so my mum used to pack meals out with the carb element to fill us up cos it was cheap. Huge portions of mash or rice. Always putting extra sugar on cereal, ive continued a lot of these habits even though I know they aren’t correct anymore. Calorie counting is the only successful way I’ve ever lost weight in my life, it’s basic math and science. It makes absolute sense, but the habits we built up over our lives make it very challenging❤❤❤❤❤

Part of my program is showing up for myself as well and even though I'm in program I still really love your videos and find them helpful.

❤❤❤❤❤ Slowing down my meals really helps me to decide how much I actually need to eat. Stopping every bite or two to check in and see if I still feel hungry (or to stop before I am too full) helps me to not overeat. I dont really enjoy counting calories so this is a habit I can use whenever and wherever I eat. An unexpected bonus is that I enjoy my meals more.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ oh Carla. I’m still struggling. I still have the last 15lbs to go and just can’t keep to my plan. It looks like this: I start strong with the plan (counting calories, sticking to a deficit, no bread, and a few other rules to help me stay in a deficit) and then a few days in I have a hard day or a busy day or break one rule and go rogue. Then I just give up and feel like a failure just to repeat it all over again. I’m two years postpartum and 60lbs down (10lbs lighter than before baby). Did you struggle at the end? My mental health has played a big role in this and I have a much healthier relationship with food, but I think sometimes that’s the thing that derails me…but I think the feeling of defeat plus the thought “good enough” keeps me from getting to “great”. Do you have any advice or insight? You are such a blessing to me! Thank you for everything!

Non negotiables for me 1 drinking a lot more water ( I have my emotional support water bottle) 2 exercises virtual reality / walking at parks 3 not going out to eat as much (once/ twice a week) 4 when I do eat out still pick a healthy options / going to places that still have healthy options 5 calorie counting being mindful of what’s in the food

My non-negotiables were pretty much the same, except for mental health and journaling. I am neurodivergent, for me it was about curating my environment as a way of reduction of unnecessary stress and stress response wreaking havoc on my system and ability to rest and sleep. Also somebody here mentioned getting enough protein. Sufficient daily protein intake worked wonders for me. I had awful cramps in my legs and torso for years, and, while I still need anticonvulsants from time to time, sufficient protein stopped spastic pains waking me in the middle of the night from sleep.

Very similar to what I'm doing to lose weight. My starting weight was the same as yours but I'm older (52). I try to plan my meals such that I know what I'm eating each day, that way if it's heading towards meal time and formerly I might have ordered fast food and binged I now make myself eat the planned meal and then I no longer feel the urge to binge.

🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 love this! Thank you for sharing 🤗 it’s hard as a mother. You have all of the food that the family likes to eat and you don’t want to put them on a diet just so you can lose weight 😅 I’ve noticed my self control is much lower if I am stressed or tired… which seems like a daily thing!

I agree with you. Daily exercise is very important (running, walking etc), calories counting is also important if you gain weight easily as it keeps in track how much you consume and how much you spend as everyone starts to gain weight if they consume more than they spend.
