Thank you so much for this well explained tour of Halifax! I have been there often to visit family but no one has explained the history or buildings to me before. ❤

Halifax did have a town hall before the current one on Crossley Street, the old town hall was on the corner of Union Street and Westgate, the building is still standing and is now used as an opticians shop. The Town Hall Tavern used to be on the opposite side of Union Street, the tavern was joined with the Westgate pub next door. The Westgate has been closed for many years.

I was born and lived here for the first 39 years of my life and although I now live in the Scottish Highlands I still visit a couple of times a year. Thanks for a very nostalgic & informative video !

I can't believe that people actually considered knocking down the Piece Hall in the 1970s, thank god it was saved! It's beautiful and I'm seeing Korn at the Piece Hall in August, I can't wait! I've never been to Halifax before

The square chapel is the red brick building next to the spire, the original square church that the spire was part of was mostly demolished. The new library has an impressive window from it incorporated into it.

Halifax lad born and bred, though moved away 23 years ago, i used to work in the building just up from the Parish church and when it wasn't raining i would have my lunch in the grounds of the church, at that time i was also living above the mechanics right next to the Halifax HQ, it was while they were building the 7th floor and made lying in on a Saturday impossible. Thanks for the vid.

My old man comes from Halifax and moved to Scotland in the late 70's. When we used to go see my Gran, who lived on Dyson Road late (80's-untill early 2000's), there were always conversations about no go areas for white people in HX. Gibbet street was mentioned, can't remember the other areas names. Is this still happening today in the town?

@@allisonalexander3569full of crime, litter everywhere, crackheads on the street (walk around for 5 minutes and you’ll at least see 1) and all that is in the day. At night it’s even worse
