This is a very beautiful boat. It has everything one could want for short handed long distance cruising. The aft cabin looks very comfortable and bright, en suite head, galley has counter space. It even has a washing machine in the forward head! I love this boat! I wonder if she sails as beautifully as she looks. I would have enjoyed a walk around on deck to see how she is set up as well.

This looks like the configuration I would be looking for: rear cabin with centre berth, which makes room for the deeper rear deck lockers; in-line galley to port, with microwave; twin cabins forward of the mast; a washing machine installed in the forward heads. I'd add a generator, a water-maker and consider getting some davits for mounting solar panels and carrying a dinghy. As I look closely at the options in this size from other manufacturers, I keep coming back to this Hallberg-Rassy 44 as the best solution. The layout is great, the mix of traditional and contemporary design for the interior is appealing, the technical features are excellent, ... . Only a couple of aspects make me frown from the frustration of balancing trade-offs, being the split levels of the cockpit seating, great for providing the helmsman with visibility but not good if you want to stretch out for a snooze, and, the lack of storage space for bulky items (like folding bicycles), made worse if the excellent bow and stern thrusters are ordered, which chew up what little space there is under the front and rear cabin berths. If Magnus was to hand the camera to the 'hot Swedish blonde' mentioned in other comments, I'd ask for a video showing all of the storage spaces on the boat.

I didn't expect this much interior space on just a 44' boat. Very few boats in this class have a dedicated chart table and such a large galley.

This one has the three cabins, but if you go on their site, the two cabin version, especially the one with the bigger VIP front cabin is awesome. great for one or two couples for a long passage.

Does anyone know why sliding doors are not utilized in sailboats?

You mean interior doors? There are some manufacturers who occasionally use them. Mostly on the more affordable coastal boats. They do have their benefits on smaller vessels when a berth can be placed closer to the door... I'm not sure if a whole lot of thought has gone into using sliding doors, but I could see the argument being made that they are unnecessary. Meaning that they involve roller bearings, rails and latches instead of just a couple of hinges which are usually sturdier. And the sliding doors I have seen have been very thin. I remember seeing one (separating the heads) and thinking that should I lose my balance in heavy seas I'd probably go straight through the door. And making a heavier door would involve bigger rails and bigger latches securing the door while underway. And considering I used to have a lot of sliding doors in my old apartment.. I wouldn't want any on a boat unless it really allowed for a smarter layout as they proved inherently less reliable than standard doors so I'd prefer not to deal with them while dragging sails through the doorway in heavy seas. Could a sliding door be built to withstand wear and tear and the weigh of a large man crashing into one? Of course. Is it worth it? Not to me at least, especially in a roomy boat like this. YMMV and all that..

What about lazarette space?I hope it is better shaped than the aft lazarette on the previous 43.Always got the impression that the aft lazarette on the 43 was put there as an afterthought,very odd shape,like the designer forgot about it.

The aft stateroom doesn't leave a lot of space for a cockpit lazarette. Most lazarettes eat up overhead space in aft cabins and berths.

Those two "pillars" next to the aft stateroom berth are lazarettes. And I guess there is one on starboard side next to the passageway that is sort of located behind the nav station wall.. Given that she has a bulbous ass, those will certainly be a lot better than what was on the 43, but lazarette space has always been on the low side on small to medium sized HR boats. The one biggest gripe I have had with HR is the facts that they had small lazarettes and forced one to buy teak teaks... But the lazarettes are improving and I've heard that this one could be bought without teak, so things are looking up. Now if they only offered a HR certified "well rip off your old teak and replace it with non slip" for older boats...

Well in that case I would like to have HR certified saloon hull windows in a used HR 43,would be a nice upgrade to any used HR.(53,46 or 42)And no teak decks?at last.Cheers,JJ

Oh yes! Come to think of it. I wouldn't mind the original layout HR 40 without teak, off center aft cabin double berth (instead of the 2+1 configuration) with large'ish lazarette instead. I wouldn't mind that one at all. Or even better, I believe this one to be a berret racoupeau desing? The 44, I mean. Give me that with garcia built aluminium hull and swing keel, have rassy build everything else and slap in an solar arch with davits. That would be as close to a perfect boat as I can imagine.

even without an engine I think people would still buy there product. They just have a great team making all this stuff and well designed boats. But a nice and gorgeous blond wouldn't hurt at all. lol
