You don't need to believe in a god in order to appreciate music when it is done so well. Believe in what ever you want. Just please don't ask all of us to follow your beliefs as there were not other options. We'd all get along better that way.

@@joeblow26 This song is is what you make it. You are correct that some of the verses imply an immoral act. You may or may not know but there are somewhere around 180 variation of the verses written by Cohen. I choose to focus on the verses that glorify the Lord God. Hallelujah means God be praised (uttered in worship or as an expression of rejoicing). "He is risen! Alleluia!" There is a lot of history with this song but the song's title "Hallelujah" is its intended purpose.

Leonard Cohen wrote 84 verses of this wonderful song. Each verse was a separate expression of the word, Hallelujah. If he had lived it is likely that he would have added more verses. John Cale took just five verses to perform and record. Two more verses were added and it is the seven verses that have been "accepted" as being the song the public hears. Apparently John Cale was astonished when Cohen gave him fifteen pages of verses from which to choose. I would love to hear more versions made up of some other verses.

In Flanders Fields, the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, that mark our place; and in the sky the larks, still bravely singing, fly scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. - John McCrea. Thank you for this amazing choral and solo arrangement. The Soprano did good. Bravo!
