Well, more specifically, it means that EVIL is everywhere. Whether Michael is alive or not is of very little consequence, as no sequel was ever intended for this movie when it was written. Dr. Loomis goes out of his way multiple times to highlight that MM is evil personified. He IS darkness. Evil never dies. Michael Myers may, but evil never will.

Just so you know…. The Halloween series has 4 different storylines. 1. H1 and H2 2. H1, H2, H4, H5, H6 3. H1, H2, H H20, H Resurrection 4. H1, H 2018, H Kills, H Ends The Halloween series originally meant to be a anthology which is why Halloween 3 is a different story. But when H3 was released they realized people wanted more Michael Myers. Also it’s 2 complete remakes by a director named Rob Zombie who came out with H 2007 and H2 2009.

Loomis says it to make the sheriff take the situation seriously because the sheriff just doesn't believe that someone who's been in a semi vegetative state for 15 years is now running around trying to kill people. It's highly unusual. So, why'd he kill the dog in his old house? It's probably the dog of the New York couple we all forgot was supposed to be there to see the house. Remember? That's why Laurie was there that morning. We never hear about them again. Myers either killed them when they showed up along with their dog. Or they looked at the house while he was out and left, and there was a stray dog living in there, he killed it, and a small animal came in and nibbled it. Lester was killed because he was warning everyone of the stranger hanging around. Can't have that. Think about it, Myers was only gone for a few hours. He definitely ate before leaving the hospital for his trip. And if he got hungry, he could've gone into anyone's house and raided the fridge because no one locks their doors. My theory. hahaha

Now you gotta check out Halloween II (1981). It continues on the same night, right after this one. This is one of the greatest films of all time, it's in the congressional library's film registry board. It's a list of films deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" that are recommended for preservation by those holding the best elements for that film. Around 900 films on that list, out of millions made. Carpenter wrote Myers to be the actual boogeyman. He said he's a human, but he has a supernatural edge. He was only gonna do this one film, and the ending was supposed to scare people as it implies that you can't kill the boogeyman, with them showing all the places he's been in the movie, and his breathing getting heavier. It suggests that he can be everywhere, and nowhere. Another fun fact is that the movie cost $325,000, half of it went to the camera and lenses. The Myers house is in Pasadena, CA, they were gonna demolish it in 1987 but a guy who is not even a fan of the movie, realized what the house meant stopped it, and they actually designated it as a historic site. So they moved the house down the street as they were building condos there. The street where Myers is looking at Laurie as she sings walking away it's all the way down there at the intersection. It's a dentist/insurance office, right across the street from the the hardware store that was broken into in the movie. Teens getting killed in slasher movies who are doing drugs and having sex was started in this movie unintentionally. The film makers stated it was all a coincidence, they didn't mean to like have a message that drugs and sex is bad. Other slashers took it as gossip and have anyone doing those two things killed.

There's no gore in it on purpose, it's just about the tension. And yes it has a few goofs but you have to remember, it's 1978 and it's Halloween, no one living in these neighbourhoods thought they would be in any danger. This movie changed that cause it took the horror out of the gothic haunted houses and into your suburb. People left the theater scared shitless seeing his face everywhere. He could be in your garden, you could maybe see him when you're walking the dog at night, every glimpse of something white in the dark looks like him. Happened to me for months back then. It might be cheezy and a little dated now but back then......pffff, scary shit.

[Edited for grammar] First time watching one of your reactions. Thank you for the fun time. Halloween is Definitely my favorite horror franchise, even the weird one or two installments. I just wanted to point out something I recently realized: In the scene when Loomis turns around and sees the station wagon Myers was driving around parked across the street, it hit me that Myers Parked It There When Loomis Wasn't Looking. Remember, Myers parked it in front of Tommy's house where Laurie Strode was babysitting, and directly across the street from Lindsey's house where Annie was babysitting. It was there when Annie took Lindsey across the street to Laurie Strode could watch her while she went to get Paul and fool around afterwards. Remember? He pops up behind it. So, if it was parked in that spot during that time, how did it get across from the Myers house a few blocks away? Tommy and Lindsey's houses aren't on the same block as the Myers house. Tommy and Laurie were both on their way to school when they walked past there that morning. My theory is that Myers is repeating what he did to Loomis earlier during the hardware store scene. He's hiding in plain sight, mocking Loomis, showing Loomis that he can't stop him. Myers Had to have known that Loomis was waiting for him at his house. So he Moved the station wagon across the street after Annie went into Tommy's house. Between then and after killing Annie, Myers moved the car and walked the couple blocks back. Because don't forget, when Myers is chasing Laurie back to Tommy's house, the station wagon isn't there. It's Gone when he's walking towards Laurie as she's screaming for Tommy to hurry and let her in. Myers isn't a typical slasher like Jason, Chucky, and the others. He's very intelligent, and even Loomis said it -- he plots and plans. Even when you think he's just staring at a wall, like he did for the past 15 years. Just like he put the rake against the back door, knowing Laurie would try to escape that way when he made sure she couldn't get out through the front door. Nothing he does is an accident or sloppy. Laurie's the obsession (to use DBD phrasing). He's saving the best for last, so he's savoring it by toying with her. Including when he shakes the closet doors, and when he "missed" her on the couch and upstairs after sneaking up on her. His stalking is reconnaissance. He's plotting his schedule. I think it's why he finally kills Annie with the knife. If you notice, he was shaking her after choking her for a couple minutes. She wouldn't die, so he shakes her like, "Come on. Hurry Up And Die, stupid. I don't have all night." Watch that part again. It's kind of a trip once you see what he's doing. It's like when you realize Myers does this little "heh, heh" shake after one of Tommy's bullies runs into him and then runs away scared out of his mind. Watch that part again, too, for a quick laugh. Myers has a sense of humor beyond the ghost with glasses costume. It's peppered in here and there. Anyway, thank you for the fun time. I'll check out your Halloween II video as soon as I can

Yeah. Reactors say that a lot because they're used to wall to wall action in their scary movies. No one's really ever seen older movies that relies much more on story, character, and tension instead of gore and action. It's too bad. On the other hand, maybe it's because Halloween is considered the beginning of slasher horror, and that could be the problem. Maybe it should be considered a thriller in the way Psycho is, even if FT13TH and the others are replicating it

The reason why Laurie isn't one step ahead or prepared is because it's 1978. It was a much more innocent time. People let their back doors open, there were no slasher movies or masked men attacking people so the idea of fighting back or knowing there's a killer around wasn't realistic. John Carpenter's idea for this was bringing something terrifying to suburban America. That's also why there's no gore. This was all new and original at the time. Halloween created the cliches that would define the slasher genre for the next 40 years. That ending was insane when it was first released.

Yep. The terror was in the cities, not in a small, close-knit suburban community. And nothing that bad really happened before or after the night Myers killed Judith... in the movie. The book mentions a couple other times in the town's history because of something brought up later. But, as is, they had nothing bad happening except kids playing pranks and sometimes destroying things and annoying the neighbors. That's why Nobody helps, reacts, or believes anything more is going on than the usual Halloween shenanigans And Myers Knows this

When watching Halloween, you always have to remind yourself of Halloween culture in America. Pranks being a major one. So it's hard to tell what's jokes and what's serious and on a day like that. Someone standing around with a mask on? It's the perfect day to do it on because almost everyone is wearing masks. That's what makes the use of the holiday is perfect. So, when Laurie went over to Lindsey's house after the weirdness on the phone, she genuinely thought her friends were just picking on her as usual and making her the butt of a joke/prank. Same as the neighbor that closed the blinds when Laurie was at the door screaming for help. It's Halloween in a small, quiet town, people are gonna think, "Oh, just bored teenagers trying to prank people", especially in the 1970s. That's part of the horror. It's just a normal small town neighborhood. The most trouble they get, probably some deliquents amd the town drunk, so it would have been what was considered "a safe environment", especially back then. Not serial killings...

I Never heard that fan theory until much later. Jason Voorhees was the first to be thought to have it, and then people began to say Myers has it, too. I don't think he teleports. He just plans everything out to a tee. That's what being a stalker gets him. He's extraordinarily observant and intelligent. While everyone's just doing whatever, he's setting things up, plotting, and planning. That's what the masks, knives, and rope that was stolen from the store that afternoon illustrates. Even knowing how to drive. You heard Loomis. He Sees and Plans. Myers has been watching everyone and everything. It's likely how he knew how to drive. Just a couple thoughts

Sometimes I feel that people don't truly appreciate the significance of the final scene. It's the ultimate cliffhanger ending. In the apparent moment where we FINALLY achieve decisive victory against our deadly foe, it's ripped away from us one last time and leaves us grasping for a rational explanation as to how he could possibly still be alive. It's at that moment, with the sound of Michael continuing to breath filling the room, the house, the street, etc, that we realize the Dr. Loomis was right about him. He isn't a Man. He's something beyond that and he's out there somewhere. The Boogeyman. The Shape. Evil.

Actually, there were many, extremely gory films in the seventies. In that same year was "Dawn Of The Dead," for instance. The following year was "Alien." And if you went to Times Square back then, you could see literally, hundreds of B-grade and lower horror films absolutely dripping with gore at any of the grind house cinemas. However, Carpenter intentionally made this almost bloodless, as he wanted to make it more about suspense and atmosphere.

No one is saying that. We expect the teens to get killed in these slasher movies. It's a trope. They're always the ones being stalked. This is why we have a final girl. The slashers go through all of the rest until they get to the last one. Murdering pets, little kids and even the elderly is considered petty and pathetic. They pose no threat and are typically innocent and defenseless.

Carpenter was heavily influenced by the sound and the look of Dario Argento's "Suspiria" film when he made "Halloween". I would recommend that film to you. But remember it's from a time when people watched films and thought about them rather than needing everything played out on the screen,, so you might find it a little slower than normal.

Of the 'big 3' of late 70s/early 80s horror (Halloween, F13, Elm Street), Halloween comes out the gate strongest. Carpenter's chilling score, the use of lingering POV shots coupled with heavy breathing (something Black Christmas did a few years before), and showing the lurking killer to build suspense all combine really well here into an icon of early slashers. The series does go off the rails pretty quick when they bring Mikey back after attempting to go in a new direction with 3 (which is good, but not what fans were expecting). By the time Halloween 4 came out, there were already a half dozen insane F13 sequels (and a handful of Elm Streets) so horror fans had really latched on to it being the killers who carry the series, for better or worse, and Halloween jumped on the trend 😅

I think they're kinda new as a couple, so he's getting the names of her friends and the kids they're babysitting, and the houses mixed up. Or, he was pretending to be mixed up and saying it to be funny, which is why Linda laughed... I don't remember if I read that in the novelization or if it's something my friends and I would talk about. I mean, their plans Were pretty convoluted. haha

Great reaction! just subscribed i really don’t like films from this era being called (Old) there are various issues but, if you go back 20 earlier Horror was silly and aimed at kids (Without Psycho, TX Chainsaw Massacre, The Exorcist & Night of the Living Dead Horror in North America would’ve never evolved (But, the entire Slasher Sub genre was ripped-off from Italy with the Giallo) The Giallo is ground zero for every American slasher (it doesn’t get nearly enough credit for influencing North America
