To be fair, when I saw this in the theater, that place was full of kids, some of them just looked like adults on the surface. I walked in there fresh out of high school, but in that theater seat, I turned 10 years younger.
@michaelparham1328Сағат бұрын
Then you have the adults that are watching it for the first time in 20ish years because they watched it as kids, and it scarred their little kid mind. Strangely, I don't remember any part of this being scary. I was literally developing my first memories at the time, so perhaps I had watched it to the point that it just felt too familiar to be scary...or maybe I just liked dinos too much to see them as scary.

"I thought this was a children's film." A lot of reactors are surprised by how genuinely scary moments of this film are, and I love to see it :) I'm pretty sure Littlefoot (from "The Land Before Time") was a brontosaurus. I don't have many grievances with this film in terms of scientific accuracy, but just for the record, velociraptors were actually WAY smaller, closer to the size of a turkey. The "velociraptors" in this movie are closer to the utahraptor or even the deinonychus in design. Rewatching this as an adult: I really like Hammond's character. Usually the billionaire behind all the awfulness in a movie like this is either an intentional villain or someone who makes terrible choices based on greed. Instead, he was a good man who was definitely misguided in his decisions, but his motivation was pure. He just wanted to make an amazing experience for people to enjoy. And I like that he wasn't just a boring, greedy villain. This is a much more interesting type of character, in my opinion.
@peterkoester73582 күн бұрын
These films were made as scientifically accurate (other than the size of the Raptors) as was currently known at the time. As the movies progressed, new discoveries were incorporated into the dinosaur designs such as the raptor species eventually having feathers as fossil evidence pointed in those directions. I love how the filmmakers were not set in stone with the creature designs and were willing to alter things as new discoveries advanced our understanding of those prehistoric eras.
@scottb30342 күн бұрын
utah raptor is actually less accurate than real velociraptors are. They are deinonychus but their size is closest to Achillobator.

Hammond brought back extinct animals (or really Frankenstein monster's versions of them), shoved them into a theme park, and forced them into a wildly unnatural environment just for the sake of *ENTERTAINMENT.* That is not a noble pursuit. People were getting injured and killed in his little science experiment all along the way, not to mention the ridiculous breach of ethics to bring back so many extinct animals into a world that they can no longer naturally live in. His motivation was "purely" short-sighted and selfish.

My dad took me out of the summer thing telling me I had a dentist appointment but surprised me with a trip to see this. It took months if I am not mistaken to "render" some of the scenes. Also, the movie is really good because it mixed practical with CG. Not to mention the same effects from the Stan Winston which also worked on 1986's Aliens and Terminator 2, from 1991 (this one won another Oscar for it). Then, there's the amazing score and audio - for the latter, I recommend a video posted on KZbin explaining how they did for the dinos, called "Jurassic Park T-Rex sound design explained by Gary Rydstrom", from "INDEPTH Sound Design". The same channel also has one about T2.

there is some clips of the original draft of the film in which the dinosaurs were done via stop frame animation as that was still the go to for creature effects at the time for creature effects till one of the SFX team presented Steven Spielberg a demo reel of what they and some of the other members of team had been working on in the own time which was the clip of the T-rex running and that was all it took to convince Spielberg to make the change to CGI.

This movie is amazing from start to finish- the cast, the practical effects, the music, the locations, the sound design, the research they did trying to keep the dinosaurs as realistic as they could (based on what we knew at the time, paleo studies have advanced sooo much over 30+ years) while still maintaining the Hollywood effect, for a beautiful blend of believable movie magic. If anyone ever gets the chance to watch the full Making of Jurassic Park, the behind the scenes footage is just as mind-blowing as the movie itself and I can't recommend it enough. There was so much work put into this movie, people traveling around the world studying animal behavior and searching for the perfect locations that felt like a blend of modern world and ancient landscapes. Seeing how the Foley artists created each dinosaur noise by blending various animal sounds, changed my life as a kid. Also you get to watch a team of animators pretend to be Gallimimus, so they could figure out how they moved as a group and then used that information to create a new type of animation to make the stampede scene. Sorry about the ramble but I'm not kidding when I say I might have enjoyed the making of the movie more than the movie and it's still in my Top 5 ever. Anywho, great reaction seriously! I always love to see fresh faces slip from excited to horror when it comes to the tone change of this movie. The part where you guys joked about the raptor hacking the door got me so bad. On one hand it sucks that so many people didn't see my favorite films when they were growing up, on the other hand- I love getting to experience the movies for the first time with others over and over. Pachycephalosaurus is the best dinosaur obviously- and my sweet baby has a part in the second movie!

The mix of using built reality and cgi was amazing. We were all completely astounded as no one had ever seen this before. Groundbreaking. And once again, the great John Williams provides the iconic soundtrack… he and Spielberg have had a life long relationship both working and friends. And we are so so fortunate they did.

Side notes: >The dinosaur sounds in this movie were made by combining sounds made by living animals and everyday objects. >The Tyrannosaurus rex, affectionately known as Rexy, was a mix of elephant calf vocalizations (roar, snarls and growls), with koala, lion & tiger sounds and alligator gurgles thrown in and a dog playing with a rope toy (shaking the Gallimimus to death). >The Dilophosaurus was a mix of hawk, swan, howler monkey and rattlesnake sounds. >The adult Raptors were a mix of a walrus chest roar and male tortoise mating call mixed with a dolphin scream recorded with a hydrophone, while the hatchling was a mix of owlet and fox kit sounds. >The Brachiosaurus vocalizations were slowed down donkey brays, while the sneeze was a mix of an active fire hydrant and a whale breathing through its blowhole(s). (There's an "s" in parentheses because depending on whether or not whales have teeth or baleen plates (think of them as biological water filters) in their mouths, whales have either one or two blowholes) >The Gallimimus's chief sound effect was made using the recorded calls of a mare (female horse) in heat, while their movements were inspired by those of ostriches. >A good portion of this movie was shot on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. >Whenever I hear Hammond ask "Who's hungry?", my first reaction every time is "Not after hearing the Raptors rip the cow apart." >Lego released 30th anniversary sets in honor of Jurassic Park and the one I have is based on Dennis Nedry's encounter with the Dilophosaurus.

This movie, the show ER and the novel Disclosure were all #1 in 1994 in their respective fields. The common thread between all of them is that they were created by Michael Crichton. He pulled off the feat one more time in 1997. No other person in history has ever pulled that off. The hatched eggs in the park were raptor eggs, raptors were loose on the island and they didn't know. it was one of a thousand issues with the park which is why it was doomed to fail. Another was that the dock was in the park which is why nedry needed to turn off the fences. Nedry is played by Wayne Knight who is famous for the tv show Seinfeld. When filming his scene with the Dilophosaurus he was afraid he'd get fired from Seinfeld because the dye used in the venomous spit prop of the animal stained his face purple and would not come off. He had to film stuff for Seinfeld shortly after for the 1992-93 season of Seinfeld. Apparently they understood because he remained on the show until it ended in 1998. Jurassic Park helped revolutionize the effects and filmmaking industry with their CGI and in the process became one of the most technically important films in world history, it however was met with intense resistance during the production since Dennis Muren of ILM was intent on protecting his friend Phil Tippett's (Phil was once an ILM employee) job on the huge production and ILM was cautious about CGI since it hadn't been that extensively tested prior to JP. However Mark Dippe and Steve Williams created a test using Stan Winston's models during their off time at ILM and casually played it while producer Kathleen Kennedy paid ILM a visit. She noticed, was impressed and brought Spielberg in to see it. Needless to say he too was blown away and moved to use CGI instead of stop-motion. In a bout of genuine depression Tippett uttered the line about being extinct which Spielberg used in the movie. When the dust settled, a huge rift in ILM formed between the old school like Muren and the new school like Williams and Dippe that only deepened when they felt Muren stole credit for their work and ambition by taking home an Oscar meant for them. They left the company a few years later. The first digital facial replacement in film history was used in this movie to replace the stunt double's face when she looked up while hanging from the ceiling above the raptor near the end of the movie.

Tristan, without imposing can I just say you look much healthier in these newer uploads. I don't want to pry or ask (maybe just a few too many late nights) Anyway! You're looking healthy and all-good so I just wanted to say that's put my mind at ease. "when The Pirates Of The Carribean breaks down the pirates don't eat the tourists" - Dr Malcom this was a decade before the first Pirates Of The Carribean movie, so he was referencing the original Disneyland 1960s ride! How cool is that! @Sam yeah always relentless close calls, the movie pulls you in like a drama then grips you with action! Also great editing btw! The image of Raptors hacking a computer on the otherside as you guys said, was too funny lol Some of us are old enough to remember the E.T. franchise, I mean you could not move for E.T. pencil cases, stickers, books, toys etc etc, and then in -1994- 1993 Spielberg did it again in the movie world and you could not move for Jurassic Park pencil cases, stickers, books, toys. I mean on a smaller scale they even had a ripple effect with the Jurassic World cash-ins but the original Jurassic Park was a huge world of spin-off media. The book (RIP Crichton!) was hardly a small deal in the first place, but wow. Even in computer and video games there are different games and decades-later spin-off games, from Ocean's Nintendo game to Sega's SegaCD game, screensavers for PC, it was nuts! I am glad I lived through that era (as a young adult) and can fondly remember shops and stores just full of JP logos and everything you could imagine making attached to it (Audiobook CDs and tapes even!) Yep it was probably the biggest hype I've ever seen in mech! that was brilliant, thanks so much!

Sam Neil is in a lot of great movies, make sure you check out "In the Mouth of Madness" (1994). and maybe "Possession" (1981), if you like something a little more challenging.

I remember reading that the Jurassic Park scientists team wanted to show birds in the closing scene to support the theory that some dinosaurs evolved into birds. The theory didn't have much support at that time but over the last 3 decades, the proof for that has only become stronger.

I watched "Jurassic Park" in theater in the summer of 1993 and the visuals and sound were stunning. The surround THX sound made the experience thrilling. Was also on a date with a hot blonde so even better heh heh.

You need to understand just HOW MUCH this movie changed what was now possible with Computer Graphics. There was T2 and The Abyss before this, but this movie advanced photo/video realistic computer graphics with a giant leap, not an incremental step. Everything changed with this movies release, and the CG still holds up to this day. Audiences audibly gasped in awe in theaters.

The thing about Jurassic Park in 1993 is that it delivered on its promise like no film before or since. Before 1993 Dinosaurs were stop motion, or bad puppets in film. This was the first time audiences saw biologically accurate "living breathing" dinosaurs. I still get the same swell of emotion from the first big reveal. My God... They're... real! 🥹🥹

It is kind of sad that they did Genaro (the lawyer) so dirty in the film, because he was a bit of a badass in the book. That's why the indignity of having Rexie end him on the toilet just makes me super sad.

42:30 Probably the the only time in cinema history that a super-imposed face was used AND doesnt look fake, long before AI super-imposing faces, like Grand Moff Tarkin and Princess Leia in Rogue One. The stunt actor, when she fell from the duct, looked directly at the camera, so they had to fix her face with the actual actors face that plays Lex.

I love how little the entire frog DNA and chaos theory things were put into the movie compared to their massive importance in the novel. Chaos theory went from a very involved set of formulas and observances to just being another name for Murphy's Law, and the entire frog DNA and dinosaur breeding was in two very brief scenes like Spielberg remembered that plot point at the last moment. And the "T. rex has frog vision" thing always annoys me, Rex had binocular vision that was as sharp as modern birds of prey. And yes, she would have easily smelled Grant and Lex because T. rex also had an amazing sense of smell.

I love this movie its over 30 years old and still looks incredible That waterfall in the beginning was named Jurassic Park Falls in Hawaii lol 10:24 one of the most iconic lines of the movie "Welcome to Jurassic Park" 15:10 one of my favorite lines "the only one on my side is the blood sucking lawyer" "thank you" lol 16:58 if you look on the left monitor you can see another Steven Spielberg movie Jaws playing lol 18:43 another great line lol 23:40 that is my favorite shot of the movie, where the flashlight goes into the T-Rexs eye and it dilates it's so good lol 24:10 i think thats just plexiglass 24:27 hating kids and not wanting to see them eaten are two very different things lol 30:23 great line lol 35:13 that was the first day of shooting, them blowing up Timmy lol 36:58 that was a real reaction from Laura and it's hard to believe shes only 23 in this 37:57 such an iconic line RIP Bob Peck 38:50 Ariana Richards is incredible in this and shes a professional painter now and you can get that shot from her website

I enjoyed your reaction! When I was in a book store some years ago, I noticed a book about dinosaurs where they had all their children's books. That thing was thick as a brick, and quite expensive, and I thought, yeah, how many parents will buy that beast of a book for their kids? It was quite obvious that the book in question wasn't meant for kids, but the staff seemed to think it was, because only kids are interested in dinosaurs, right? Someone working in that store must have been reading too much Calvin & Hobbes. Jurassic Park is about as kid friendly as Jaws (Steven Spielberg made both movies, and John Williams wrote the soundtrack for both), then again, kids often think sharks are cool too, they just happen to be less extinct, for now. Sure, I watched Alien and Aliens as a kid, but that doesn't mean I was the target audience for those movies. So, animated movies, movies about dinosaurs, and animated movies about dinosaurs aren't necessarily for kids 😅

Nice reaction! Watched this in the theater when it came out and it was impressive. I remember watching the stills from news magazines and so on and waiting till it came out after the Summer (in my country at least) and finally watching it. We all had the same expression Sam Neill had when he saw the dinosaurs. Probably one of the best cinema experience for me.

I was 13 when this came out. Most kids saw it multiple times in the theater (if they could). I recall twice being at a 2nd run theater (where you could see movies that came out months ago for cheap) where it was a double feature of this & Reality Bites. Somehow, the audio got switched for the 1st 2 minutes of each, so they were bringing out the raptor to Gary Glitter's Rock & Roll Pt2 😂😂😂

This movie shows that the artist creating the CGI is important. It's a joy seeing you guys appreciating these classics. And yes, the T-Rex shown fully, for instance when walking, is CGI and the parts where you see just see the top side or head is animatronic.

In the book, Tim is the older sibling, like 14 years old, and Lex is younger, 7 or 8. They didn't rewrite the characters much when they switched the ages (other than giving her the computer skills, which in the book is Tim too), which helps to explain a lot of her less-than-brilliant moments, like waving the flashlight around when the Rex was loose, and needing the word "herbivores" to be re-explained as "veggiesauruses".

There are (currently) six Jurassic Park films. The first trilogy: Jurassic Park, Lost World: Jurassic Park, and Jurassic Park III. The second trilogy: Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and Jurassic World: Dominion. There is also a short film called "Battle at Big Rock" which takes place between Fallen Kingdom and Dominion and is available to watch on KZbin and should be watched [and reacted to] before Dominion. As for favorite dinosaur, I have always been partial to the Triceratops, and was very happy to see it featured in this film. I even got to see that prop (and get photos with her) at Universal Studios Orlando in 2001.

Hello, I'm so glad that the two of you reacted to this movie. You did a good job. This movie reminds me of my daughter in so many ways because she has been fascinated with dinosaurs ever since she was about two years old. When this movie came out I took her to go see it in the theaters when she was four. she loved it, she also loved the sequels 2 and 3. Her favorite dinosaur is the Velociraptor. My daughter also liked the land before time movie and to name the dinosaur that Sam was talking about in that movie it is a Apatosaurus which is closely related to the Brontosaurus. Anyway, if it wasn't for the Jurassic Park movies and my daughters love for dinosaurs she wouldn't have grown up to study Paleontology. Sam Neill's role in this movie. To answer your questions, Yes, I would visit Jurassic Park if it was real and my favorite dinosaur is the Tyrannosaurus Rex. I hope the two of you react to the sequels and I hope you don't mind my paragraph long comment. 😊
