The moment when Laurie gets mad, when that fear turns into fury, it's such a great moment in the series. She finally had enough. And that is what makes H20 such a great entry. The final battle between her and Michael.

It has the same writer as Scream, it uses the same score as Scream, the characters dialogue sounds like it belongs in Scream, they tried to add more comedy in a similar fashion to Scream, and the two teenage girls watch Scream in their room, probably in contrast to the time the characters in Scream watched the original Halloween. I know some horror fans are biased when it comes to Halloween, but let's be real, Halloween jumped on the Scream boat and didn't even try hide it.

I love this movie! I'm one of the people who considers the ending "canon", insomuch as I care about canon LOL. I love scary movies, right? But I'm a total scaredy cat, and I saw the original Halloween when I was maybe 7 and it scared me like crazy. When I saw this movie a few years later I stopped being afraid that every time I took out the trash at night, Michael was going to get me. I would just remind myself that she totally cut his head off and I was safe. It's also part of what made Resurrection less scary for me when it came out (again, total scaredy cat. A movie need not be /good/ to scare me). I was actually able to detach the way normal people who watch movies do and watch it while knowing none of it matters because H20 is the real deal. Only thing I kinda disagree with is the bit about the security guard's scenes. Yeah, they may not be necessary, but they work for me. I love how it starts out that his gf/wife thinks it's so stupid that he wants to write these things. And then as we continue to look in, she's started getting really into what he's written. IDK, just a little peek into his life that I enjoyed cutting some of the tension.

Nah definitely don’t like H20. It didn’t give me the mysterious, foreboding and ghostly presence that Michael had in the original. The scores too over produced and the whole movie feels like a polished Hollywood movie..it’s just not “the boogeyman” to me..I enjoy watching this movie on occasion but it’s definitely not what I recognize as a continuation to OG Myers. I’m a purist but the original was just so perfect on its own and needs no sequel anyway..so with that aside this movie is entertaining but not eerie and alluring.

Thank you, Cody dead on review. Since I am old and remember the first Halloween when it was in the theater and it was the first movie I rented when we bought our first VCR, which was a BetaMax! But I have faithfully not only loved the movies I bought the movie tie in books and read them too, devoured them! I loved H20, and for me it was because of the end of the Franchise, I love so much! Like you, I think of H20 as the end of the first timeline and when I watched Resurrection, I wasn’t pissed that Busta Rhymes said, “Trick or Treat, Mutherfu***r!” Because it wasn’t Michael Myers to me. Doesn’t mean I didn’t hate Resurrection, I did and do, but I don’t get angry like some other old timers. H20 had Nurse Marion, which tied in the original two films, and I know I am the only one, but I liked Joseph Gordon Levitt. I thought it was awesome with the Hockey Mask and the finger that Michael gave the other franchise with the skate in the face. I really enjoyed seeing Laurie and the cracks around the facade that only grow as the movie goes on! I found it to be a satisfying ending and I also have to agree with your negatives, the multiple masks was distracting and constantly taking me out of enjoying the movie. And I’m sorry the Adam Arkin boyfriend character was just wrong, and creepy In every seen with Jamie Lee. Thanks for the awesome reviews! I have been keeping up with yours and “Dr. Leemis’” Vlogs to get me to this Friday, when my friends and I all old, folks are crowding into the theater!! How hard is it to do a simple blank rubber face mask? Seriously... The pacing issue that really struck me last time I watched this was that after Laurie locks the gate behind her, her son just vanishes from the film. We never see him again, and it just feels weird. And overall, it feels more like a summer film, despite claiming that's it's Halloween. The original felt more autumnal, and it actually was shot in the summertime.

I LOVE Halloween H20. It’s my personal favorite of the sequels that came after Halloween II. I love Laurie having an alcohol problem, I love her relationship with her son and how strained it is, I love Laurie confronting Michael at the end with no fear, there’s SO much to love here. More than anything, it does this thing that I love in any story and that’s a time jump. I love stories that pick up decades after the first part. To me it’s the real Halloween 3 and the definitive end to the story regardless of what nonsense came afterwards. My biggest disappointment is that the new Halloween coming out not just ignores part 2, but H20 as well. To me both those sequels deserve recognition and the best the series has to offer and it’s a damn shame they’ve been left out.

The way they retconned this ending is insulting to every fan of the series. This was the end there's no if, ands, or buts about it. Michael being replaced with a paramedic is idiotic. There's no way a regular human being could endure the beating Michael Myers gets at the end. Just more of Mustapha Akkad being greedy. Overall this movie is just ok for me. The great third act saves it from being forgettable. I'm also bothered by the score, and I hate that they actually used cues from Scream. I've seen the first Scream so many times that those cues stick out like a sore thumb. Really, I'm not a fan of any of the Halloween films having an orchestral score. The synthesizer scores are a defining element of this franchise.

My biggest issue is this is influenced by Scream, which is NOT Halloween. Halloween influenced Scream and it does not work the other way around. Way too dated in terms of its feel and tone. The music score is terrible aside from Mr. Sandman, the opening credits, and the very end.

H20 aside from the original Halloween is one of my favorite movies I hate how people hate on it when it’s so much more above the other sequels in my opinion. I always get chills when she goes back to the school with the axe and throws the kitchen knives at him. So many suspenseful scenes from the cafeteria scene and the rest stop scene which could have been a kill to fill in the lack of killing through the film as u mentioned. I reviewed the original and h20 on my first channel a few yrs ago but re reviewed them . Good review as always and glad to see a fan of this film . I'm the only one who dont like H20 that much? Because the movie does not feel like a Halloween movie at all to me. (H20 was affected by Scream just like every Horror Movie after 1996) I appreciate what Jamie Lee Curtis try to do but dont feel like a Halloween movie to me, its more like woman's revenge thriller to me. It's basically Scream but with Michael Myers instead Ghost Face. The movie is very attached to nostalgia (which is good i guess) but i admite I always loved the tributes to Donald Pleasence's Dr. Loomis. But i still prefer H4 over H20 anyday of the week.

I loved this movie. My second fav Halloween movie after 4. It was awesome having JLC back and I liked all the cast but I missed Donald Pleasence a lot. I loved the Michael/Laurie showdown and her ending Michael was badass. I liked the return to OG Halloween and getting rid of all the weirdness the series had become.I liked Josh Hartnett and Michelle Williams characters. I wish Jamie had lived and been played by DH had her reconnect with Laurie. I think the follow up should have focused on Josh Hartnett and Michelle Williams Characters. This is the first and only Halloween movie I saw in the theater so it holds a special place for me for that.

@@kennypham3856 that's fine if you like it but i just didn't care for H20 all that Much and here are reasons why i think it's overrated. 1. Michael's Mask. When i see Chris Durand's Michael Myers i don't see Michael Myers i see someone dressed up like Michael Myers. The mask looks really stupid and you see his eyes all the time throughout the film. His mask in Return of Michael Myers wasn't good but at least you didn't see his eyes. 2. They never explain where Michael has been for 20 years. In Return of Michael Myers it made sense cause they say he has been in a coma for 10 years and in 2018 it made sense cause they say he was caught and locked up for 40 years. 3. The Music is not very good because in some scenes the use music tracks from Scream 4. The Final Fight feels kinda goofy anf unintentionally hilarious such as when Laurie hits Michael on the head with a Fire Extinguisher. There are some things i did like in H20 Like the scenes in the School, The scene with Jamie Lee Curtis and Janet Leigh (The car in that scene was a nice little reference to Psycho) and of course the ending where Laurie Beheads Michael. Sadly it was ruined by Resurrection. If you enjoyed H20 fine good for you but for me it's just not that good. I prefer Return of Michael Myers and 2018 over H20

Surprisingly great sequel. I still think it was inspired by that-time hit Scream more than Halloween itself and that worked. Halloween 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and H20 are the only watchable movies in this long series. I really hate Zombie films, part 6 and Resurrection

I don't understand why anyone hates this movie. The tone is different but the tone of Aliens and T2 is very different from the originals. Who cares when the story is told that well? I don't think the filmmakers behind H20 are on par with James Cameron but this story is told very well, considering its the 7th movie in this franchise. They successfully turned Laurie Strode into a bad ass survivor like Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor. And now, they're trying to make like this bad ass character arc and ending never happened.

H20 isn’t bad, but it doesn’t feel like a Halloween movie to me. It feels like a Scream movie with A Halloween motif. Ottman’s score isn’t fitting and really hurts the film too. And as you mentioned, the mask debacle is completely unacceptable. Hate it or love it, Halloween 2018 nailed the mask. I also don’t like seeing Michael’s eyes through the mask. It’s just not scary. But I do think Jamie Lee Curtis does a fantastic job and I really enjoy the opening with Michael confronting Marion Chambers. I prefer Halloween 2018 to H20, but I think it’s really cool the franchise has 2 movies with essentially the same storyline of Laurie confronting Myers several years after the original 1978 incident told from 2 separate timelines. Halloween fans have had it pretty good over the years all things considered.

H20 was just your average 90's, Scream, I know what you did last summer style slasher...It was okay...Some people even watch the movies in this order because of the badass ending...Halloween 1, 2, and H20....It's not a bad way to watch them...It had none of the heart or originality of the classics I will say...H20 felt like a scream movie..Even down to the way it was shot..It seemed like it was either ripping off average 90's slashers or going along with trends.. and you saw that even more with resurrection when the whole found footage/reality television craze was beginning.

I don't have a problem with the Scream movies. As a matter of fact I think it's a pretty solid franchise...I even thought the 3rd movie was okay, and that's the 1 catches a lot of shit from fans. I just don't think that H20 is that original for the time...In Cody's last video I ranked it at about the middle of the pack. Which I think is fair. I think this movie is somewhat overrated, but I did enjoy it. I mean, this isn't the Hellraiser franchise...Meaning a mid level Halloween movie is still quite good. The only 2 Halloween movies that I think are complete garbage are Halloween 5 and the 2 Rob Zombie films.

I prefer Halloween: resurrection to this. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very goofy but I find it entertaining and actually, In terms of how it’s made It’s definitely better directed and feels like they had an idea of what Michael was throughout the whole movie. H20 is a messy production and it shows. The masks, the music, the plot. Feels like a slug to get through until the final act. Everything changes all the time and it feels like it’s super muddled and that it has too many cooks in the kitchen.

The way you felt in the intro when you found out that 4,5,6 was wasted is exactly how I felt and still do today lol It ranks in the lower levels of the franchise to me, but not the worst by far and I dont hate it overall. There are elements I love about the movie, especially the 3rd Act. But i felt this was ultimately a waste of a great idea by the director making it the flavor of the month in regards it is identical to Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, except here we know the killer obviously lol And that's why i love your channel: even though I dont always agree, I respect your explanation because you give 100% in it! every once in a while during these reviews, the graphic of Michael carrying Lynda catches my eye, but I don't see Lynda, I see Michael practicing for the ministry of silly walks. And I love it! Also, I LOVE H20 and it is the best ending! it was my first Halloween in theaters as well.

... Michael Myers allows Jamie lee Curtis beat him up too much. She stabs him repeatedly without fighting back before he falls down below. He doesn't come off so strong and forceful, like they portray him in David Gordon Green's series which is one thing that I actually liked about his series.

Great review Cody! After watching all the Halloween films H20 is my second favorite film in this series as Laurie Strode becomes the hero we deserved against Michael. The ending was great but Resurrection ruined it lol!! My only complaint is Michael Myers masks are terrible imo.

This was the best sequel out of the ones about Michael in my opinion tied with Halloween 2 1981. Only thing I hated was the mask.

I think H20 is okay, not great, not terrible. I used to think it was pretty stupid but I watched it a few weeks ago again and I liked it much more. I have a few problems with it it but it’s paced very well and never boring. I also really like the opening theme music. It sound very evil and epic. A lot of the other music in the film isn’t that good (some of it was literally taken from the Scream and Mimic soundtracks), but I really like the main theme and the version of Laurie’s theme that we get. I also really like how they use the new main theme when Laurie decides to battle Michael and screams his name. I don’t mind the slow pacing of the kills. The original movie did the same thing and I think it works fine here because we get some nice character development with Laurie. One thing that bothers me slightly is that I feel that it’s more similar to Scream than Halloween. Yell at me! :P Also, I think the H20 Myers is horrible. Aside from the terrible mask, the actor playing Myers seems like a goofy teenager or hyper child walking around pretending to be Michael Myers for Halloween. He’s just not menacing at all in my opinion. And the kill that you liked where Michael stabs the girl over and over looks pretty stupid in my opinion. It looks like he’s stabbing her in the same spot over and over and it’s terribly choreographed. It doesn’t look natural and there doesn’t seem like there’s any strength in his movements. I honestly don’t know how anyone could think he’s better than any of the other Myers actors in the franchise. Which Myers do you think was worse than this one?

Correct. This is a lifetime version of the Myers saga and it keeps H20 in the bottom half of my rankings. Myers is not intimidating, terrible mask, not a threatening presence that Curse of Michael was. This is the Dawson’s Creek of Halloween movies. Entirely overrated.

Jamie Lee Curtis was exceptional in H2O. I absolutely loved it & any of the negative really didn`t bother me - get over it But as you said Cody H20 was the ultimate finale to Mike Myers & so satisfying Josh Hartnett has been off the scene for quite number of years now, amazing they didn`t rewrite his character into the forthcoming 2018 Halloween also to reboot his career cause lets face it, the main objective of H20 & Halloween2018 was/is to kick-start Jamie Lee Curtis career over & over again cause lets face it, when was Jamie Lee Curtis on the big screen last? Tanx so much Cody for doing these Halloween specials.
