Michael McDonald, who played Little John, was actually the same actor in the Austin Powers scene, and his character’s confrontation with Michael is even reminiscent of it, so that’s two scenes in this movie that call to mind Austin Powers.

The thing that annoyed me the most was the inconsistent view of vigilante justice. I did not like the movie. Big let down. Specially having heard some positive buzz, this did not pay off. [Spoilers] I was especially bothered by the continuity in the final mob scene, Karen stabs michael in the neck with the mob, next scene she warps to her daughter's side. When seemingly no time has passed in the mob scene and they are just thinking about kill confirming Michael, only to be conveniently slaughtered. And THEN have Michael himself warp behind Karen who for some reason is alone in the Myers house to also very conveniently recreate the nostalgic stabbing... When it seems just moments before the streets were full of ambulances and cop cars. WHY even have this scene? Just to do a cute callback to the original? Why not just kill Karen at the mob and have michael later overlook the town from his window when no one is left? It all feels like scenes that were recorded without any particular plan. Really disappointing.

Yes, because the characters IN THE MOVIE who were chanting "Evil dies tonight" knew that they're coming back for a third film. What? That's like Laurie yelling "CUT! Why is Micheal moving? He was just stabbed in the back!" Was it repetitive them chanting "evil dies tonight" Yes, was it corny? Yes. But I think it was the director trying to take us into the moment, a town of people held hostage by a maniac who kills indiscriminately, and they've HAD IT! I understand where people wouldn't get it, and maybe be even annoyed, but they have done FAR worse movies about Micheal Myers, I love Rob Zombie, but those movies...wow, I think they did an incredible job bringing the characters and the town into the modern day. Best review of this film I've seen so far. I enjoyed some of the kills but the story of this reboot trilogy is a hot mess. It's very clear that their goal was to discard the previous mythology concerning what drives Michael to kill (i.e. voices telling him to kill his family) and focus on a similar obsession in those directly affected by his actions. That direction seems at odds with with trilogy's focus on Laurie Strode. If she doesn't matter to Michael, why should she matter to the audience??? I quite liked the previous mythology (runes aside), especially H20 and the weight Michael's return had. I don't understand Michael's powerset here... he's essentially superhuman but allowed himself to be imprisoned for decades?
@rarayart3 жыл бұрын
The weird thing for me is the decision of moralizing about mob mentality in the movie where you can justify a mob with very little question. Yeah, if "evil incarnate" (in a movie world) were terrorizing a town, I wouldn't be pointing fingers if people got together and went on the hunt. Which is why the hospital mob sequence felt so fabricated: you just want the "lesson" by itself; the other escaped patient is a pawn for the writers and director to bring some sort of depth to the movie. Also, movie: WHY would you have me at the end rooting for Michael to wreck every single one of those mob idiots??? It all was so frustrating to watch. Ugh, I hope David Gordon Green doesn't do the equivalent to The Exorcist sequels he'll make.

I interpreted the ending as the fear, anger, and hate Michael inspires empowers him. In the flashback, Hawkins stopped them from killing Michael and he gave up and was arrested. The mob at the end attacked him, so Michael was able to strike back and kill them all. My daughter posed the question of what would happen if the town destroyed the Myers house. I kinda hope that's addressed in the next movie.

I genuinely liked this film. Does not make a lick of sense in spots, but I liken the bad plotting to the hysteria and madness that made the residents make awful decisions. It kinda works in a madhouse kinda way. The title lived up to its mandate, and I honestly thought one of the kills was harrowing and cruel. The score is top notch, and while I could do without the 'Evil Must Die Tonight' rhetoric every 5 seconds, I genuinely enjoyed this film. One more thing! The flashback made me giddy. That dude playing 78 Michael is spot on with his movements. The Loomis tinkering worked really well and to be honest this whole sequence could have been just dire, but it worked and all in all this film was a hoot and a holla 🎃❤️🎬

I'm a big fan of the 2018 movie but I see Halloween Kills as a massive let down.

The nurse and doctor were actually in the 2018 film

It’s my understanding that the Loomis effect was not an effect , but a 12 piece prosthetic. The actor they got to do that character was built very much like Donald Pleasance. Anyway, you made so many points that were spot on; but I do have to say I really enjoyed it when I saw it! I just had fun!

I personally liked the flashbacks, Loomis making an appearance,was one main reason I wanted to see this. Now I think because I'm bias, I love the original. And now, for the rest of this expensive fan film, hated the evil dies tonight!!! Nurse Marion? Why? She wasn't a main character! And bring back characters, to off them ?? Tommy looks right at the face of Michael during the news report! While he finishes his drink! There were only two escape inmates! So his how do we know its not him? Convo with Brakett, pissed me off!! I was amused when he got Old Huckleberry up side the head! So Tommy, you were right 40 years ago! YOU can't kill the Boogeyman! How come there were so many people at the hospital, to then have like 20 people surround Michael,with hockey sticks, an axe handle,and my favorite,the clothes iron???😂 Brakett, should've emptied his gun , after his Everyone is entitled to one good scare quip? That's only effective to someone who is startled,which Micheal was not! It all felt like DDG painted himself into a corner, the redeeming factor? The artistry in which they did the masks and make up, and the Myers house! Again, an expensive fan film, a unilateral blood spattered, wet dream!

The whole “evil dies tonight” was cringey the first time I heard it, pretty sure it was nurse Marion. But then they all kept saying it. And worse, Lori Strode says it in the hospital when she was never around any of the other people that night. Is she psychic or is this a phrase the whole Town has been preparing for 40 years later?

Laurie mentions in the hospital something about Michael can't/won't die until she dies. I think that's the gap this movie was stumbling to build; which explains the absurdity at the end with the mob. So my assumptions is that the 3rd film will be both of them dying - which is really the only way this can go at this point. ***Also, Dan - I'm surprised you didn't make the connection that the guy screaming at the steamroller in Austin Powers is Michael McDonald - Little John in this film.

So Halloween ii 1981 never happened in this timeline so I see how when David Gordon green said that Halloween 2018 was direct sequel In slightly different way so Halloween kills shows us how he got arrested now Halloween ends Will have four year time jump.

I've decided that I pretty much agree with Dan on just about everything. Great review and analysis!
