That implies the following timeline: Friday The 13th (1980) - 1979 (stated on Pamela's grave in Part 4) Friday The 13th 2-4 - 1984 (they all occur over the course of one weekend in 1984) Friday The 13th Part 5 - 1989 Friday The 13th Part 6 - 1990 Now, this is where we have a split. Do you think that the establishing shot of Jason in Part 7 actually indicates that Jason is under the water when Tina is a child in the flashback? If yes, then Part 7 has to take place in the late 90s. If not, and I don't, then it can take place in 1991-1992. Part 8 must then either take place in the early 2000s or in 1992-1993. Part 9 probably takes place not long after Part 8, with Jason finding his way back from Manhattan. FvsJ is set in 2003; this is confirmed in the novel. Jason X starts in 2009.

I wasn't a fan of the franchise. The 1st part had a cool twist but besides part 2, 4 and my favorite the f13 remake the franchise is boring. It openly tried to rip off Halloween except it captured not of the magic or horror from that movie. It's lame, unoriginal, not scary, cheesy, and boring af. 09 remake was actually good, had a super high kill count. The best opening scene he killed like 5 people. Had an actual story and combined the best ideas from the 1st 4 into 1. Seeing him run again was cool and scary. The tunnels made sense for how he got around so quick.. The bells made sense for how he knew someone was around. He had a hunter/killer instinct. He adapted to being in the woods. He actually made sense that he was such a bad ass. He was a hunter and a killer and had the lived off the land mentality. Derek Mears is the best to portray Jason. Like I said that kill count is super high and that opening scene is one of the best in any movie. It's up there with ghost ship. Love the characters too. For the people that hate that movie or think it isn't one of the best please explain why. It does what the other movies did but only 10x better. Besides nostalgia or just hating because it's a remake what is a valid reason you hate this movie if you do?

And I get why people can love it (great lighting , great kills , the villain bf, etc). But I think perhaps I don’t love it because the soft core porn aspect to some of the “love” scenes? The kidnapping angle is unique but out of character . The characters are forgettable and didn’t care about them . More so than usual for movies of this franchise . Am I the only one who felt/feels this way ? What opinions have you heard about this movie and why people don’t love remake?

"It's okay, he just wants his machete back!" Is the most memorable line in the whole franchise. A friend of mine worked on Jason X. He even got an end credit. "Friday The 13th" is my favorite horror series! "Friday The 13th, Part 1". The one that started it all! I love the old-fashioned feel of this one! I love when Steve Christy met the as yet unseen killer, and you didn't know he was meeting the killer until he did. I also love the ending credits music, which was beautiful, and highly unusual for a movie of this type. I also love when the trucker gave Annie a ride, and only brought her halfway. It was mentioned in the diner that Camp Crystal Lake was "about 20 miles" from there. This means that he literally wouldn't even DRIVE within 10 miles of the place, lol! Not even in that giant truck of his! "Friday The 13th, Part 2". This still has that old-fashioned feel that I love so much! I love Jason's first look, often referred to as "Sackhead Jason". Although I prefer the lesser-heard "Hillbilly Jason", lol! Not only is it funnier, but it's more accurately descriptive of his entire look: Sack over his head, overalls(!!!), big ol' lumbering country boy! Also interesting is the mystery of whatever happened to Paul. Given the dream sequence, and the aftermath when Ginny is being loaded into the ambulance and is asking for Paul, and nobody says anything. Also, nobody seems to bring this up, but whatever happened to Ted? He was at the bar with Paul, Ginny and the rest, and is last seen there when Paul and Ginny leave and he stays behind. Never shown or mentioned, again. Whatever happened to Ted? "Friday The 13th, Part 3, 3-D". Just like with "A Nightmare On Elm Street", I've never rated these except to say that(once again!), entry #3 is my favorite! It's the last of the series to have that old-fashioned feel to it, which I love! I love Chris's old-school(well, modern for it's time) van, I love how Jason gets the mask, and that before he puts the mask on, you don't know if he's still using the sack, or not. I love Shelly, who I'm guessing has no middle ground when it comes to opinions on him. Pretty sure it's love him or hate him, and most fans seem to hate him. Also love that out of left field disco theme! Finally, I love how though it doesn't take place at Camp Crystal Lake(which, after Part 1, no film does until Part 6, albeit changed, along with the name of the town, to Camp Forest Green), it still takes place in Crystal Lake, the town. Higgins Haven, to be exact. "Friday The 13th, Part 4:The Final Chapter". I love the continuity of it. Literally picks up right where the prior movie leaves off. Also, the guy who was Sandra's(from Part 2) brother looking to avenge her death. This might sound odd, but when Jason was ending him, him yelling:"He's killing me!" always makes me laugh. Jimmy, Crispin Glover's character, is a highlight. I could relate to him reveling in being weird, yet also being awkward when dealing with the opposite sex. I hated the way Teddy treated him, always seeming to see himself as superior to Jimmy, and adding to Jimmy's ill confidence, instead of trying to help him out. Teddy was such a prick, why were they even friends? It was especially sweet to see that while Teddy struck out with one twin, the other one dug Jimmy, and Teddy learned this in no uncertain terms, while insulting Jimmy, still. The first non-camp setting was a nice change. Also, even though at it's time of release we were to believe this was the final series entry, they left room for a sequel, like Tommy seriously took Jason out, and was left with a possible feeling of bloodlust. "Friday The 13th, Part V:A New Beginning". I love the continuing on with Tommy Jarvis, albeit years later. I love the outrageous mother\dullard son team who live next to, or at least not far from, the asylum. I love the antisocial chick into new wave, believe me, I relate. Outside of being in a home, that is. I love the way that Tommy had a hairtrigger temper. I love the way that they attempted a new direction, with Roy doing his best Jason imitation, but it just wasn't the same. Again, love the ending, which again involves Tommy potentially "becoming the new Jason", making for, imo, the most important "DEFINITELY" room for a sequel ending of the entire series, but when nothing came of it in Part 6, was a letdown. Also, little nugget of trivia: Actress named Debi Sue VOORHEES features in this film. Too perfect, but ironically, the one film in the bunch with no Voorhees killer! "Friday The 13th, Part VI: Jason Lives". Firstly, Jason returns! Love the continuing on with the Tommy Jarvis character\storyline. I love the lame way that whoever in Crystal Lake thought the renaming the town and camp to Forest Green would be successful at putting it's murderous history out of folks' minds. Nice thought, nice try, but get real! Love the way that the kids finally made it to camp. Love the way one kid asked another:"So, what WERE you going to be when you grew up?", lol! Love the way the guy on the business outing paintballed Jason, and Jason actually paused and looked down! Love the way Jason killed him by ramming his face into a tree, on a spot where a smiley face was carved, at that! It was the most rocking of the films, complete with Alice Cooper tunes! Love when the guy was boning the girl in the r.v., and she asked him to last until the song ended, and his face when she told him how much time remained! Also loved the way that it seemed the couple in the r.v. were actually escaping Jason, only to find he was a passenger. "Yabang!" "Friday The 13th, Part VII:The New Blood". I love the continuity with Jason's look. Ever since the ending of VI, he's been chained in Camp Crystal Lake's lake to a boulder(or large rock, at the very least), and when he's inadvertently revived, the water damage shows on Jason's person. I love the way that this is pretty much the only time that Jason actually has a "worthy" opponent. I love the way that when the bitchy girl is taunting the main girl(forget both names), she(main) makes the bitch's necklace hover around her neck and break into pieces, even though she felt bad after. I love when the psychiatrist out to exploit the main girl gets his! I love the subtle way the movie leaves room for a sequel. The two survivors are driven off in an ambulance, and as the screen fades to black, you hear:"Ha!, ha!, ha!" "Friday The 13th, Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan". I love the way they try something left of center by taking to the high seas, so to speak. I love a lot of the cooler kills(Boxer getting his head punched off in one lick, rocker girl getting nailed in the face with her axe, the one getting hot rocks pushed into their body.), I love the way Renny(I think it is) has that bizarre connection with Jason as a boy, I love the way this is the first film since Part 3 to have somebody warning against Jason, I love the way that Jason just non-chalantly kicks the boombox out of his way, and when the gang approaches him, he lifts his mask and they haul ass, lol! I love when Jason sees the hockey mask on the billboard and sort of has a "Huh?" moment. I love when the jerk uncle is killed(and how, earlier in the film, the main bitch actually tries to seduce him!). I love, again, the subtle hint at a sequel at film's end. This time, not only do we hear "Ha!, ha!, ha!", but we also see the mask floating on the sewer water. "Friday The 13th, Part IX:Jason Goes To Hell, The Final Friday". I loved the way that John D. LeMay("Ryan Dallion" from "Friday The 13th: The Series") was in this. I love the way that somebody finally had a way(or knowledge of a way) to kill Jason for good. I love the way that in the diner, they had those little Jasonburgers, complete with hamburger patties in the shape of a hockey mask! Thought a couple things stunk, though. In order for the plot to work(finally, a surefire way to kill Jason), all of a sudden, Jason has a sister. Nothing against the sister, herself, but from Part 1, it's been established that Jason is an only child. This "plot twist" is interesting, but bullshit! Also, I loved them trying, again, to keep it fresh by trying something new, but the whole "body-hopping" thing, stupid! Finally, LOVE Freddy and Jason meeting pre-"FVJ". The only thing I hated about it was that I saw it in the theater with a couple of friends who had already seen it. I don't think they told me exactly what happened, but that something was going to happen. If I hadn't known of the surprise, it would've been so much better. What was also cool about that was it was supposed to be a subtle hint(like in VII and VIII) at a possible continuance. Obviously, when the wind was dusting the sand off the mask, it was representative of Jason's (potential) survival. But, when you saw Freddy's glove, and heard his laugh(always wondered whether or not it was Robert Englund), it was the DEFINITIVE word that this ends here! Or so we were led to believe..... "Friday The 13th, Part X:Jason X". Ok, again, love when they try new stuff, but, imo, this new effort is better than what they tried last time. I love the way that Jason had the look of "The Terminator". Love the way the nipples fell off the android chick. LOVED the simulation of the first 3 chapters with that old-school feel to it! Loved how Jason was sent, flaming(!), back to Earth and, "just so happened", of course, to land in the lake at Camp Crystal Lake! What are the odds, lol! "Freddy Vs. Jason". Saw the "ANOES" tier ranking, and went into detail there, so, I'll just say, after my beloved Part 3, even though this is neither "Friday" not "Nightmare", but rather a standalone film featuring the meeting of the legendary fictional killers, this is my second favorite of the series. In all fairness, on the other side of the coin, after my beloved "Nightmare 3", this is my second favorite there, as well.

Too bad the overall plot sucks. They really should have made it a remake rather than just a pseudo-sequel/reimagining of events. Centering the first remake on Mrs. Voorhees would have guaranteed a sequel to the restarted franchise. But with a twist: at the end - Jason did drown but was revived, but the oxygen depletion after he died and was brought back left him a near-invalid. Constantly grieving the loss of her once happy and healthy child, and the strain of taking care of an adult child, drove her the mother to seek insane revenge. Just as in the first movie, the mother manifests a vengeful Jason personality in her mind. Jason has witnessed that duality and that is why he becomes vengeful himself when his mother is killed by the surviving camp counselor.

Jason goes to Hell is always gonna be a favorite just because I saw it in the theatre when I was a kid. Between casting the actor from Friday the 13th The Series ( grew up on that, haha.), and at the very end where Freddy reaches up and snatches the hockey mask I thought it was a lot of fun. As far as your rankings, I'd say I agree for the most part. To me it's one of those movies that I'd sneak and watch on HBO in the middle of the night as a kid and it made me feel like a badass, haha. I agree with every single one of your rankings here. That's astonishing, because I always thought I was alone in my thinking here. Jason is easily the most pliable when it comes to stretching the concept, so I actually admired the efforts when they went outside the box. That doesn't really work with other horror icons, like Michael, because their popularity is so anchored to a particular style of storytelling that doesn't permit allot of plot canvas to broaden the concept. Here Jason can be practically be anything and sometimes, the crazier the idea, the more fun you have.

At the end of Jason Takes Manhattan, I always had the idea that Rennie visualizes his body, as a child... since she had visualized Jason, as a young boy, throughout the movie. Basically we are seeing Jason, the way Rennie is seeing Jason... I could be wrong, but that is honestly my personal opinion on why we see Jason as a child, at the end.

Okay first, Jason X has always been a guilty pleasure for me. Like it’s so cheesy that it’s great 😂 Second, I’ll forever defend the remake. I think between nostalgia and it just being “cool” to hate remakes/reboots, people hate it just to hate it. I loved that it managed to keep the Jason cheese we all love, while trying to put a better story to follow, slightly better acting, better effects and a fkng BRUTAL Jason. Not that Jason isn’t brutal in the other ones, but this one seemed to try to make him more than a giant with a machete. For a F13, it’s flawless and when I’m in a Jason mood, this is my go to.

It isn't "nostalgia". That's a word people use when they weren't around to experience something when it happened. They're just trash. There is a reason critic AND viewer scores for those have been so abysmal for years. They're awful.

I really don't get the unrelenting hatred for Jason Takes Manhattan. the movie had a lots of things going for it. the fact that they're trapped in a moving vessel with Jason is something completely unique to the series until Jason X in space. the cast of characters, while bland, all feel different from each other, have different looks and attractive. Loved the chase scene of Jason strangling the girl in club of the cruise ship; so simple yet so effective. The boxer's death was also iconic. When Jason finally gets to Manhattan. The movie I can admit isn't great by any means and needed more depth to it but it was definitely memorable and deserves credit for trying something fresh. definitely deserves to be in the "Watchable" category for me

I agree 110% about Friday the 13th (2009). I love it. People bitched about this film before it even came out. But, the thing is, it gave EVERYTHING you wanted in a Friday the 13th film. A decent story, great kills, fun characters, a bit of humor, hot chicks, nudity, Mears as Jason is about perfect, his look is great...I don't get it? Love this film. Oh, and Trent is actually the EXACT same character as the one in Transformers. People hated him so much in Transformers, Michael Bay thought it would be cool to put him the Friday the 13th Universe to kill him off...true story!!

Part 6 is my favorite, and I think some of the reason is that I read the book (film adaptation) before seeing the movie. The book added a few things to the canon of Jason which really made this particular movie come alive for me. Part 4 is a very close 2nd place. Part 8 is a guilty pleasure, because its the first movie I was old enough to see without a "parental guardian" and I saw it at a drive-in theater in the country which always adds a bit of spooky element. The only ones I didn't like, with the exception of the first, are the ones that don't really have Jason being Jason. So, parts 5 and 9 are my least favorite. As far as Freddy vs Jason goes... Its watchable. I mean, at least Jason basically saves the day and allows them to chop Freddy's head off. So that's... something, lol.

Part: V is also my favorite from the 80's 😅 I guess it's more of the feel of it than anything else. I was actually shocked to see where you put Manhattan bro. I mean, it has it's flaws, like the look of child-Jason and shit. But that movie scared the hell outta me as a kid. It almost looks like Jason teleports towards certain victims in a way to catch them and there's something oddly awesome about that, that movie also has my favorite look of Jason. "Juicy Jason" lmao! Too each their own I suppose. I also loved the "haunted vessel" story behind it. Btw I cannot watch the theatrical cut of Jason Goes To Hell, it is B0RING compared to the uncut version. 👍

For the reboot, it's simple: stupendous movie if, instead of Jason, it's just some unknown serial killer home invasion horror flick. But since Jason Vorhees is in it and he's doing archery now, and keeping hostages, and acting more humanistic than monster, it gets ranked watchable. Oh, and the stupid underground lair is just like the stupid barn in part 3. Felt like half the movie took place down there.

This is gonna sound really weird, but as a Friday freak I can honestly say the remake's problem is it puts too much meat on the bone. Call it nostalgia, but 80s Jason was all about being one-dimensional. He comes out of the woods, kills you to death, maybe chases you a little first, and returns to the woods. Full-on Jason doesn't own a cabin or a bunk bed or a generator, and he doesn't keep prisoners. It makes the curse aspect of Crystal Lake work better if he just recedes back into the environment after killing, we don't need to know how he lays low. It's a mild version of what they did to Michael Myers in '07. I call it destructive exposition. But it's perfectly fine, and easily the best of the big 3 remakes in the 2000's.
