Modern Tanks and big guns uses APFSDS/FS-APDS wich is a 30-50mm Tungsten rod with fins in the back incased in a bigger case that seperates after leaving the barrel. That way the smaller round has more kinetic energy and has higher penetration. The Round of the 120mm Rheinmetall L55 can travel at speeds up to 2000m/s
