The Engineers are being used to search for the portal to the Ark, as Serge pointed out. This is because they're Forerunner creations, so they can be used to find their technology. This was one of the few times they were deployed in an active warzone, as Engineers are generally used for maintenance on Covenant technology like ships, or dowloading information. This is why the squad seem to have never encountered them before. This is also how the Engineer Quick To Adjust downloaded Vergil. It and the other Engineers were looking for the portal to the Ark when it accidentaly downloaded the Superindendent and essentially became a vessel for him. It was Vergil who was guiding you across Mombasa's streets through the Engineer.

Please tell me you have the Oddworld games in your long list for Rob to play! Those games have amazing charm like Halo and branch into PlayStation territory. Also, one of the oddworld games was a launch title for the Original Xbox right along side Halo: CE!

Interesting! I actually think this is my first time hearing of them myself, I haven't played or seen any footage of them. Hopefully they were ported to Xbox since we are on the Series X. Will add to the list :)

This legendary ending was quite forgettable compared to the other games. I can't remember if you explained what the "Engineers" really are and their origins to Rob or not. Probably doesn't spoil anything for later as they don't really play any part later in the story in the games. Might give some more context other than that they were enslaved.

I agree. I actually forgot ODST had one until I looked up to double check for Rob's playthrough. I showed Rob the comments we received going over the origins of the Engineer. The audio logs will give more context
