+Bofa Sofa Same! On Halo, Truth and Reconciliation and this level I used to test myself to see how many I could keep alive until the end, even reloading to try and protect more of them. I think you could save up to 10 on this level :) Also their dialogue was a nice companion.

@@nml3ssgh0st I was playing on heroic. It’s not that it’s even particularly hard, I just got so bored. You go to those three or four “towers” at the end of the bridges, and they’re all laid out the exact same way, you fight the same enemies. The mission just dragged on and on so much. To be honest, CE isn’t what I remembered it like. I’m slowly drudging along so I can play halo 2 and 3.

The library is definitely worse. The floors all look the same, enemies pop out at literally every corner, and the worst part is the final stretch where you have to run to the index and hope you dont die to the unlimited spawning floods

Only just now did i realize how much i love the fact that Halo is so SIMPLE with its gun names. Sniper Rifle. Rocket Launcher. Shotgun. Pistol. It's refreshing to see someone that actually thinks in a Legendary walkthrough, than two co-op players using the same idiotic run-and-gun tactics and continuously responding from the same check point. KZbin is full of those walpthroughs. And for the underground section, I used to rocket-snipe the Shade turrents (so that they'd fall into the ravine, so that they couldn't be re-manned) then finish the rest of the Grunts, Jackals, Elites and Hunters with the Sniper rifle and Rocket Launcher. There's ammo for both on the far right side of the area when you first go in. I'm surprised you didn't mention that, though?

Hey, great video. However, I would make some comments. 1. Before we take the tank down into the canyon, the place where there are two doors on either side of a mountain from where the covenant come out, go inside and there are two gold elites and an active camo. If you are a completionist, might wanna kill them, too. Don't know the point of camo though. 2. You can backtrack about two fights and recover ammo. More than two fights and the ammo pile disappears. 3. On the bridge when you say you were debating whether to take a pistol or the rocket launcher with the sniper rifle - take all 3. Take pistol and sniper rifle and tap out the grunts. Before anyone sees you or the fight starts exchange one weapon with one of the dead grunts and backtrack to get the rocket launcher. Come back, choose weapons of your choice and fight. And I like to use sniper rifle here as I can backtrack to the room with previous ammo pile and refill on ammo if I am below 12 rounds. Sometimes I backtrack a lot in this mission to make sure I have the ammo and sometimes I end up not using it much either. But I really really play on the defensive a lot and like to be on the safe side, so.... 4. I think you missed a couple of ammo piles in the mission. 5. For people who don't mind skipping stuff, Once you get the Banshee, just fly to the top of the pyramid as soon as major threats are taken out on the bridge. You will find the landing of the last fight deserted and then you can just stroll in and press the button to end the mission and save yourself another 40 or so minutes of ruthless fights. Though I don't like doing it. Just like Hokie-Pokie-Bird, I like killing as much covenant I can. Just saying, you are really bad with the sniper and use a hell lot of grenades. I am pretty bad at strafing so I use a lot of sniper and pistol shots from a good long distance and use lots and lots of patience. Ironically, the hardest room for me was the one with sleeping grunts. For some reason, my elites never had both their backs towards me. If I meleed one, the other would invariably see me and even getting one with his back to me was difficult. So I just decided to screw it. I tapped out the grunts, went around when elites were at the back of the room and got as many grunts as possible. Then I came back and opened fire and killed the elites. In all these years, despite trying I have never once found those elites with both their backs turned towards me. However, that may be because I have always played the original halo. Maybe I might be able to get the elites stealthily in the anniversary edition. I also find that a lot of levels and fights become a little less complicated in higher difficulties as the covenant become more aggressive. Then you can lure them to a place where you have good cover. In lower difficulties, sometimes they won't budge and you have to seek them out leaving you exposed and them in cover, Makes it really annoying for someone like me. Anyway, great videos man! Nice to see someone else play Halo like a strategy game or a game of chess (Which I often feel it was meant to be like) rather than mindlessly point and shoot as you go.

One of the ammo piles is in the crevice in the open space before you commandeer the ghost. Look down and there is a hell of ammo. I accidentally found it when I couldn't find the ghosts. They hadn't come out when I was in the Banshee. So I figured they would when I went out. But they didn't. I could still hear the engines though. They were both stuck in the crevice which was fun because the red elites couldn't shoot at me either with their weapons or the ghosts. Had a nice time taking them out. And then I saw the ammo pile - which I didn't need. But if anyone does, it' there.

While I do feel skipping is cheat. I like the idea of being able to sort of explore and find cool shortcuts to beat the levels. And since legendary is so brutal, I feel taking advantage of skips the devs made for you is smart. At least to me. The one skip I didn’t like doing was the grenade jump on truth. But I was so sick of the first room (spent way too long on that because of some stupid choices that I just wanted to get out of the level and move on)

Well you can the beauty of halo 1 is you can beat the game on legendary is just about an hour or jf you like kill every single enemy and you have a 10 to 15 hour campaign. Especially this mission you can choose to beat it in roughly 5 minutes or beat it in 1 to 3 hours.

If memory serves, to the right of the slope leading into the big underground tunnel, there is also an overshield. Honestly, this level is so massive, with so much stuff scattered throughout. It's really cool to poke around the map. Also, above the exit of the small tunnel with stealth Elites (the one right after ditching the Scorpion), there is a Shade turret that wasn't mentioned either. For more tricks: - After coming out of the big tunnel, the first Wraith you see is unmanned. After a certain point, an Elite will spawn to get inside. You can snipe it before it gets in. The same thing can be done to the first Wraith in Two Betrayals, and is more important there since you don't have a Scorpion for free explosions. - Likewise the many Banshees on the map aside from the first one are also originally unmanned. As such, you can do various things to prevent the Elites from getting onto them. For example, the second Banshee in the level spawns on the third pulse generator platform, and a well-placed rocket or tank shot can knock it off the platform for you to use. I think you can snipe the Elite of the third Banshee (the last battle with the Marines) if you are fast enough. - There is also good ol' bridge jump and a consistent set up to flip the first Banshee against the wall so that you can steal it, but at that point you are breaking the game wide open. And a minor correction to point number 1, the Elites in that structure are stealth Elites, not gold Elites.

I never went in the tank, never picked up any ammo, any sniper rifles, or any rocket launchers. The Bungie Halo games are amazing in how there are so many ways you can beat missions.

I dont know if anyone mentioned it before, but here is a different (harder therefore inferior) tactic I used to get my hands on the banshee on the bridge on 1:07:00 without the active camo back on '01-'02 on xbox, I dont know if it would still work on the anniversary edition but you guys can try: You'll need a single rocket from the rocket launcher. When bridge door opens, fire the rocket at the unmaned banshee to either flip it or throw it off the bridge so the elite cant get in. There are 2-3 good angles to do that before the convies open fire on you so your health doesnt really matter, you can take cover again in time. If the banshee flips on the bridge, just kill your way to it and its all yours. If however the banshee drops off the bridge, here's how you get it. this method might look like an exploit but I'd dissaggree, judgement's all yours though. When you stand on the bridge and face the pyramid/ziggurat, you can actually jump without dieing on this vertical beam-like thing that runs all the way to the bottom like a slide, given of course that you can land on its flat surface but thats actually really easy. Then you turn around, and follow the slide all the way to the bottom, which ends up near the ghost hokie picks up at 1:17:56. If my description of the "slide" is unclear, pause the vid @ 1:18:03, the slide's end is excactly on hokie's 3 o'clock. Anyway, once you are on the bottom, make your way to the banshee and its all yours again. Now the amount of mortar fire from the wraith and/or ghosts you'll have to dodge to get to the banshee depends on where the banshee lands, what equipment you carry to take some of em out and so on, so I'll leave that creative part to you. PS: If memory serves, there is a stash of ammo, including for the rocket launcher, on the bottom of the hole in the ground where the "slide" ends, on hokie's left at 1:17:50, that might help. If there isnt, its been 14 years so.... Love your work Hokiebird, keep it up!

I agree, they could have easily taken out one bridge and one circular room. But I think Halo CE had a different purpose in mind. Allowing players to practice melee attacks on sleeping grunts. Notice that one whole room is just 30 grunts sleeping. The first time I played Halo CE, I hadn't used melee much until that room. But anyway. It's not just this mission. The same map is played backwards in two betrayals and it is just as exhasuting and long. Anyway, if you are not a completionist, you can either do bridge jump or once you get in the banshee, instead of going down and fighting from bottom up, just ride the banshee to the top of the pyramid and land at the landing of the last fight, walk in and hit the button - you will have ended the mission. But just like Hokie-Pokie-Bird I don't like skipping stuff either.

This mission is an all-time classic. I adore the optional Marine dialogue you get if they make it through the snowy sections. It's so perfectly characteristic to have a bunch of runs where they get slaughtered, but in the one where Chief manages to save them, their response is "They gave it their best shot, but they didn't count on running into the biggest squad of Marine badasses in the Corps!" That kind of never-say-die attitude in the middle of a losing war is one of the funnest parts of Halo. They really are the heart of the franchise. They're the plucky Imperial Guard to the SPARTAN Space Marines, and there's a reason that formula goes so well together. I'm no longer a 343 hater and I've especially reevalued 4 in the light of recent games, but the fact that they spammed new SPARTANS just crowded out all the space for the regulars of the UNSC to shine. It's no wonder they were an afterthought. Whatever can be said about Halo infinite, returning the formula to The Last Spartan running around with a band of Ordinary Troops was a good call. In supplementary materials (including Halo's excellent novelization, The Flood) and in cutscenes with the Pilot, the way the Chief treats the Marines with respect and tries to save them also characterizes him quite well.

My favorite level since 2001 lol. It was lengthy, but part of that made it feel a bit epic imo. The scale. Always enjoyed the snow battles, blowing away everything while driving the scorpion, thinking "Oh s*it" when elites wielding sabres showed up on the bridge, etc

It's actually not too surprising that you've never heard it before. It only plays if you have enough surviving Marines, and if you kill all the waves before leaving the area. Most people leave as soon as they're set up on the tank, so you never hear the lines.

@Altair I think a lot of it is the amount of walking that's required. The corridors, the rooms & the bridges. It all adds up. When you are outside you cover way more ground becouse you've got transport for most of it apart from the last section.

All this time, I didn't know I needed to hit the ground running getting off the Pelican at the start. I never got to the door before it opened, then resorted to constantly moving in circles and firing, hoping for lucky shots to take out the elites. And it's not fair that I get on the Pelican with plasma pistol and the magnum with sticky grenades, and get off with the magnum and POS assault rifle and just Frag grenades. If the MC does this on purpose in the Pelican, he either has hubris, or knows exactly what to do when he has to get off.

On the land bridge, if you're quick enough when you commandeer the first Banshee, you can actually knock the second Banshee off the bridge with the fuel rod shot before the Elite gets it, completely eliminating one threat and greeting you with a (somehow) full health Banshee to pilot at 1:16:37 .

1:08:14 thank you so much I never thought about that. I usually just snipe my enemies, including the elite that’s gonna jump in to the banshee before taking off with it. But it’s been very helpful. I never thought about going all the way back for the invisibility cloak, and literally using it to evade the enemy to jump into the banshee and fly off with it. One of the things that I actually want to point out when you get the banshee now everybody has their own way of literally doing things. Such as for me, I get the banshee I kill all the enemies on that bridge then take out the tank at a far away distance with the banshee you can do that. Not sure if you noticed you can do that. That’s the best part about bungies work. So after doing that, I can go down and take out the turret even though there’s no enemies and they haven’t spawn the turret yet. I could still take them out. To the main door where I will set the banshee down below the ramp. The ramp as in below the door entrance I will press the button, run back to my banshee and shoot every enemy there is. You don’t wanna get too close. If you get too close, they’re gonna throw grenades and blow you up. it’s been very helpful and that’s what I do. It’s the fastest way to end the level.

I used the Ghost instead of the Scorpion on my recent playthrough of this level. It's alot more difficult but really fun if you can pull it off, but I only use the Ghost if all my marines are already dead. On the second half of the level I like to "walk" the sniper rifle / rocket launcher forward with the pistol in my backpack, effectively giving me the option to use all 3. In the room (at 52:45) with a bunch of sleeping grunts and patrolling elites in a raised platform, I found that you can actually crouch jump into the little nooks around the perimeter of the room which make for excellent hiding spots to assassinate the elites. The Banshee grab near the end of the level caused me alot of grief, I spent over an hour on that checkpoint trying to get it right, but the Wraith kept blowing me up so I just said screw it and did that part on foot. Fortunately there's plenty of rocket ammo to kill the Wraith on foot if you cannot take control of the Banshee.

I found it easier in the second encounter to take it stealthy and sneakily kill the elite so I could take out the other units quietly. My favorite strategy for the first bridge was to avoid getting spotted by the banshee, go downstairs, kill the red elite, and mop up the area, deal with the jackal majors (as they couldn’t hear fighting on this side yet), kill the grunts, and try to elite combo the gold elite. I had my fair share of them on the Truth and Reconciliation. At that point, I had killed so many due to restarts, I realized how many times they roar into the ground made them very forgiving on legendary especially when I have something that can strip away at their shields. I can really feel the difference in the actions of the enemies, and I’m using classic graphics. I would say that it’s probably a good idea to take out red elites with assassinations whenever possible. Currently stuck in the section post elevator. Not sure how to handle it yet, that’s why I’m here.

Right where that extension on the building is directly in front of you at 1:16:44 there is a weapons stash. I found a sniper rifle there which helped out a lot near the end of this level. I was able to take out the hunters from a distance and I was able to kill off the gold elite in the area before entering the building to the control room. I have also flown the banshee to the spot where we go into the building to get to the control room.

my solution to accuracy on the scorpion over the last decade or so is to aim for the feet/ground or the walls, aiming lower at close range etc.

At the part with the bridge, if you go all the way to the right from the door you enter the area from, there are a few rocks a bunch of dead marines and full sniper ammo (as well as some rockets I believe). You can just snipe the hunters, jackals elites and shades from there, and then refill and move on. Most of the time I only end up mopping up a few grunts with the tank.

1:07:25 i had a lot of problems to pass this part normal way. Just after the Doors were opened, i threw 2-3 grenades at banshee to get him down. then i turned left and slided down the rock still facing it. once i get down, i didn't go back to the bridge. after i killed everyone down below, i had free way up to the first doors at the top.

At the end of the level you can also stand on the platform south of the door as a nest and use the pistol and the sniper to take em all out pretty easily.

Hahaha! I’m the worst gamer period. But trying to play halo because I never have. I started watching this about 20 min in. Which means that Used all the sniper ammo at the beginning of the mission till you told us to conserve for the end... same with a lot of the rocket ammo. There was a part when you had 28. I had 2 😀. I also eventually dropped the sniper close to an edge and blew it off the bridge. So from about 15 min in... I’ve been doing this with a plasma pistol, what was left of the rocket launcher (I keep finding ammo so I keep going back for it) and I AM AMAZED I HAVENT DIED!!! I may have to rewatch the same 5 min a couple times but screw playing the game on my own. I suck.

I was blessed today on this level with a marine with a Sniper Rifle. He survived for the entire section, and then we separated. That Sniper marine saved so much of my ammo

I never realized just how much sniper/rocket ammo was lying around on this level. Crazy. Edit: I gotta say though: This mission is stupid. It's worse than T&R. I cannot get the damn marines to survive. I'm clearly not good enough. It pisses me off to no end that I miss 70% of my shots because things are so hectic. Fuck this mission.

'K, late to the party here, but I just started playing this game recently, finished this mission today. If you're going to go the trouble of getting the Banshee in the second-to-last part anyway, you can just fly around and blow the Shade turret guns off the pyramid-thing with the Banshee rockets. If you kill the Elites in time you can even pilot the Ghosts up and have them ready for you, the sleeping guys don't spawn until you exit the door on the ground. It takes a bit of extra time but it makes heading up the path a breeze.

I have a strategy for the part of the mission when you first get outside and confront the wraith and the other enemies. I don't know if Hokie has ever tried it but I like it. As soon as you get outside head to the left and take out the grunt that's on the turret with a plasma grenade. Make a straight run for the warthog and once you get in wait for 2 marines to jump in. If you can do this fast enough you can still save the marines that are on foot but it is a crap shoot. At least you still have 2 marines with you in the hog.

That's how I play it, too. Much safer else the marines will stupidly blow themselves up and the mission is already too long for me to unnecessarily add to it by trying a dozen times to get it right by Hokie's method.

This mission worked better for me using the pistol and the sniper rifle. I like having the pistol with me since the snipe rifle is horrible for close fighting. I love tapping out those grunts!

This idea could work. Turn invisible so you can manage to get pass the covenant on the bridge unseen and steal the banshee, destroy the other banshee, stay above the bridge, out of range of covenant attacks and fly over to the pyramid building which is a shortcut to the control center to end the level.

Just finished it at about 3 am. You can forget me redoing it on anything harder than normal for achievements. That was the longest, most annoying mission ever and I hated it.

When you get to the bridge with the two banshees, and you hijack one, save it. When you kill the two hunters, melee the banshee off the bridge. When you get to the bottom at the end of game, the banshee will be waiting for you. U can fly back up to bridge and have a field day with the sniper rifle.

The first valley was the bane of my existence. Finally beat it today. The Marines are extremely fragile or they get destroyed by the Wraith/plasma nades

It took me like fifteen tries to get the result of the video. Is hard to land the headshots and grenates in the proper time. Also marines go mindless running against the enemies to kill them with their 3 bullets after 5 seconds each round and get themselves killed by the wraith.

hey at 53:24, you can actual do that room silent if you go to the other side and take out those grunts you can stand right behind the wall and watch over the edge of it without them seeing you and take them out very slowly. Watch them a few times and you'll see 1 spot where you have 1 second to jump in and hit him with out them seeing. and this works for all 4 of them. You just have to watch out for elite that circles around every so often. Which it was easy to kill him also.

such an awesome level and by far the best of the series. All of the rooms that are supposedly the same are in fact played out with different encounters so it's a fairly daft argument. In terms of seeing the same stuff then yeah I get it but the gameplay is different each time anyway and very differently set up per room. Same with the Library. The thing is I've played through Halo1's levels many many times to know that the cut and paste simply doesn't apply to how combat epxeriences in these same spaces. I love the series and each of the sequels but Halo1 is in a whole new league

For some reason on my first playthrough the tank was already destroyed when I found it. At least that's what I thought. It looked damaged and I tried to get inside but I couldn't. I even thought it was just a background object and not an actual usable vehicle. May be I just didn't pay attention or something. Anyway, I did the whole tank section on foot and I didn't even realize that I was supposed to use the tank. I was angry at the game for sending a whole bunch of ghosts and wraiths when I had not proper way to fight back. :D :D Still completed the level though.

i would highly recommend to hit the shade turrets with the banshee bomb somewhere where there useless or where they cant shoot you when assualting the control room such as the sides next to the ramps.All PRAISE LORD HOKIE

i have what i think is an easier strategy for the double bridges, on the second bridge with the hunters beside you, you can instead of focusing on them, sit back behind the glass and take out any enemies that are close enough that they shoot at you, once then, you can jump up on those very glass things, and jump to the other bridge where the hunters are, and effectively take them out the same way, then you can use the same jump trick to get back over and finish the bridge
