I still don't get why Atriox didn't side with humanity early on. He clearly hated the Covenant and said that he thinks killing humans was a waste of time, the whole "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" thing would have worked wonders here. @sookendestroy13 жыл бұрын
Tbh you missed a bit of context, the Banished raided and harrassed the covenant during the war but were able to gain such power because the covenant was fracturing. Volir signed himself up with Atriox as he knew his fleet couldnt sustain itself after the end of the war and atriox had resources they needed. Saying the Banished were now equal to the covenant after taking a CAS is quite a reach, moreso they would be later after uniting many of the brute factions sometime in the years leading to infinite. Also side note to me it now seems like the Banished dont just want the Halos and Ark to use as leverage, rather they realize that the forerunner installations are basically unguarded depositories of insane weapons, wealth, tech and tools to empower their burgeoning empire. Just having the ark and being able to disassemble then build new halos as you wish means they essentially have infinite resources and weapons in their grasp. They werent lucky that the sentinels showed up to fight the flood, they actually were the ones to reactivate them after they disabled the arks defenses.

Atriox is everything Tartarus isn't, not just a Heretic, THE Heretic. How ironic that Truth trusted the Jiralhanae to lead the Covenant during it's waning days, yet he seem to forgot about Atriox and not only that, he was the first who got away and outlived him. If Truth was at Atriox's mercry rather than the Arbiter's, it would've been even more ironic as well as even more bloody in the process for Atriox is many things and merciful was never one of them. How Ironic that Jiralhanae rose up when the Covenant fell and by wittising that, Atriox got the last laugh. Truth thought the Brutes were loyal and the Sangelili were starting to question the great journey, yet it was a Jiralhanae who was the first to defy the Covenant and survive it through the war and so on. Truth never seemed to admit that the Covenant's fate would've been sealed either way, regardless of who would the escort of the Prophets as both races trusted by them ended rebelling against them and outliving them.

Watching this I’ve realized that where elites vs brutes are concerned, the brutes are definitely the better guys. It’s insane that the Silent Shadow would start exterminating brutes for their “betrayal” when the elites were the pawns of the prophets and threw brutes under the bus forever until the end of the war.
@dblczx68193 жыл бұрын
A "betrayal" orchestrated by the Covenant's leaders, namely, Truth. Everyone was a pawn to them, but Halo 2 painted the Brutes as villains for their involvement in the plan, which was primarily done to create sympathy for the Elites, who were forcefully ejected from the Covenant during "The Great Schism." Halo 3 (the normal version and ODST) did the Brutes no favors, either, making them the primary troops of the Covenant, with no Elites ever being seen as enemy forces. Even understanding that, though, I never knew of this side of Halo's history--that the Brutes had their own dissenters to the Covenant, especially with such a decorated veteran as Atriox was, and perhaps still is. It lends the Banished far more credence as a long-standing, legitimate threat to the UNSC and their allies than what I was led to believe. If I'm lining up events properly, the Banished formed before the end of Halo 2, since the Elites were still zealots under the Covenant when Atriox was sentenced to die, which makes this parallel narrative really interesting... a stark contrast to Tartarus and his Brutes, who blindly followed Truth and the rest of the Covenant leadership and ousted the Elites in their entirety.

Bit of a devil's advocate hot take here: I know hindsight is 20/20 but IMO the Banished is a faction that should've been conceived in Halo 2. Imagine in Halo Wars 2 that the heretical separatists on Threshold WERE the Banished, not some small little splinter group that the Arbiter was sent to deal with. He would journey to Threshold, successfully beat the 'heretic leader' only to learn that leader wasn't even at the top of the chain and that the true size and scale of the Banished were far larger. Perhaps that mission could end with a teaser glimpse of Atriox, the true Banished leader, to be further explored in later titles. The Banished could have even show up in Halo 3 with an uneasy alliance with the UNSC and Sangheili to journey to the Ark to defeat Truth. You know... "enemy of my enemy" and so on. The way they were written into existence only in Halo Wars 2 with zero mentions in past stories makes it look too much like an obvious afterthought, like the writers were simply told "the covenant is dead but Halo Wars 2 is set in post-Covenant timeline, so go invent some new alien foes to fight the human good guys". The Banished appearing so late in the story is what Mass Effect would be like if Cerberus were entirely absent from ME1 and ME2 and suddenly only appeared in ME3 and were suddenly a "big deal". So I'm kind of lukewarm on the idea of fighting the Banished in Halo Infinite. Remind me again why these guys even hate humanity? Wasn't the whole anti-human thing the Covenant's agenda orchestrated by the Prophets? Did Atriox and co. just randomly decide to start hating humans too (remember the Banished came to the Ark and immediately went guns blazing on the humans there, even non-military ones)? What about Cortana and the Created? Weren't THEY supposed to be the next "big deal"? It seems that the Halo story also has a "Mantle of Responsibility" on which alien baddies have the Responsibility to be Master Chief's nemesis, and I don't know how this Mantle suddenly flew from Cortana over to the Banished.
@WhyTho5252 жыл бұрын
I think the Banished should've been at least mentioned or teased in some of the previous games. Hell, maybe a spin-off Atriox game before Halo Wars 2. And tbh, they should've been the main villains ever since Halo 4. No stupid Didact, no stupid Prometheans, no stupid Evil Cortana, no stupid ancient evil awakens bullshit (we already had that with the Flood, and we defeated them in Halo 3). Imagine if Halo 4 was more about the UNSC and the USR (United Sangheili Republic, the name 'Swords of Sangheilios' is the name of Thel 'Vadam's presonal legion in this AU) struggling to hold off Insurrections inside their colonies, then the Banished come in, recruiting them for their goals of galactic conquest.

Yet another fantastic lore video! I just downloaded Halo Infinite multiplayer and am looking forward to getting into that. The story sounds like it's going to be pretty fantastic though! Well played!

It seems like the Banished will be the villains for a few games. That gives me Halo trilogy vibes. Better than one off stories that just include Master Chief *cough cough* Halo 4 *cough cough*

Ok so if instillation 07 is where halo infinite was set and was created at the ark then why does it have loads of old stuff like the imprisoned species

Here to say it first halo wars 2 was the introduction not infinite of the banished cause im really damn sure people playing infinite without hw2 also would be like oooo first time new brute faction! Even tho hw2 had em first

"Halo's brutal faction" you mean the Red Team? The one that was keeping Atriox at a deadlock and keep beating him up until he released the Flood back?

Yet somehow Atriox was killed off screen -.-) I feel like that alone makes me question the story for halo infinite, so clearly the banished are spread far and wide, and chief doesn't all of a sudden defeat the banished in one game and 343 builds on the story with large story expansions, where he makes his way to reach, the Ark, the ring sanders was on.

@@JoseAlvarez-mx8fc anything can happen on a 6 months gap between halo infinite intro and the first mission. There comes a novel called “The Rubicon Protocol” In March that would tell what happened, personally i doubt Atriox is dead but we will see

Okay but if the Banished don't believe in the great journey, why would humanity or more specifically masger chief, care if they manage to repair and take control of a halo ring, if they obviously wouldnt fire it, otherwise they would also be destroyed

It sounds awesome and all but makes NO sense why the Banished wants to wipe out humanity?

Can you do an analysis of the Banished? Like how they could kludge their technology together or stay hidden for so long?
