During the Human-Covenant War the ODST were of vital importance to the UNSC and their battles. These troopers are some of the bravest on the battlefield plunging into the earth from orbit. But sadly these troopers get overshadowed by the super soldiers of the Spartans as humanities greatest achievement.
So in this video we look into the history of the ODST and what they got up to during and after the human-covenant war.

@@JollyGiuseppe you know a name given to any elite fighting force is a matter of pride for them right it shows what they are willing to do to get the job done the very name of Helljumper shows they are willing to go to hell itself to save human kind put your self in a pitched battle against overwhelming numbers you started with over 5000 other troops your down to around 500 left your losing ground cant hold your ground then from the sky drop pods rain down around you and your remaining men and within the enemy ranks then the tide turns these troops inspire your fellow soldiers to push back and take the fight to the enemy one of your company members says hell yes we can win the Hell jumpers have arrived the rest of your remaining troops cheer and return to the fight that is what a name does and over time to the enemy force hearing that name would be a curse as it would mean they were the ones in trouble its the same as in our world being pinned down and then hearing and seeing a massed airstrike on the enemy pinning you down

When i first finished the original halo trilogy, i was too young to really take it all in. After years i went back to the trilogy as an adult, and i can say this is truly the ONLY game that made me break down. Idk what it is, but it just felt so overwhelming. I will ALWAYS hold that trilogy in my top 3 storylines ive ever experienced. It just hit the bar and sent it to zeta halo!

@@carminegalante4925 this game and halo reach bar none makes me feel the pain of how the war wasn't going for the unsc. The songs and the weight of how these games were very well made and told. For us Halo fans these gold teir games hold true even now more than ever. Do I wish the great storytelling to return in Halo. With every drop of my blood in my body, hell yes!!!!!!!! The rich lore and gameplay is what Halo infinite is missing. No real deapth of lore or anything just a storyline that is not complete or missing completely. As for the nastalga this will live in our hearts and minds. With this said. Standing by 5-5 for further transmissions.

@@Tarumarugan Same, 100%. I think they're so compelling because they're a lot closer to us than the Spartans, yet are still so badass. It gives them this "everyman" quality that we can more easily identify with. Like with how when you're a kid, you're more into Superman and Goku, but later identify with Batman and Vageta more because we know what it's like to work harder than others for the same results.

@@samuel10125 yes they are in H3 ODST most of the ODSTs drop pod landed in the ocean In Halo 2 you can see the precautions made to keep the ODSTs alive with the air breaks to prevent the pods from going too fast and the armor for ODSTs it self is made so you don’t die from the heat of dropping from orbit pods also have thrusters for course correction the pods seen in the missions “Delta Halo” and “The Ark” are completely sealed off like in the H2 cutscenes In the ending cutscenes of the mission “Long Night of Solace” your seen wearing a backpack made for reentry Covie from pods have thrusters on the bottom to keep the passengers alive Drop pods are safer than they first seem but still really dangerous

One things for certain, it takes some serious balls to drop out of a pod in a middle of a battle, while fellow ODSTs gets shot down all around. And even when you finally crash successfully you are expected to defeat the enemy with or without support from ground, air or space. Compare that to a Spartan which is already a one man army in him/herself. Definitely respect the ODSTs.

1: most Spartan IVs are former ODSTs 2: the IVs aren’t as prevalent as they’re made out to be in the games. Their numbers (while significantly larger than the IIs and IIIs) are small. That number is just “inflated” because the players themselves are IVs Most in the cannon were either on the Infinity or Laconia, both of which were destroyed. Sure, the academy in Infinite is training another class, but a class is only 300, so still, relatively small

i have to say the ODSTs are my fav unit within the UNSC due to having played both halo wars and Halo 3 ODST i loved the way they played they were not super soldiers like the Spartans but were willing to go to hell for humanity and their deployment lines in halo wars was epic

22:02 That their is wrong actually, The Spartan IV Program and the Spartan Branch where a completely separate division from the ODST'S which are a Special Operations Component of the UNSC Marine Corp and while it is true that many of the ODST'S top veteran soldiers were offered a place in the Spartan IV program post augmentation they where nevertheless few and far between as other top tier soldiers from across the UNSC Armed Forces where offered similar opportunities to join the program which at the start of the program consisted of only 145 Spartan IVs.

It’s worth saying even though by their method of insertion. And also there name trooper is more inline with the Airborne or paratroopers of todays age. ODSTs are supposed to be the spiritual successor to Force Recon Marines. Or modern day Marsoc Raiders. Although Royal Marines or other countries Marine Corps could be compiled into this. This was the idea of the developers. Although Starship Troopers or clone Troopers may also be part of the inspiration

Just be pawns? That’s a little too harsh on the marines. Both the Marines and the UNSC army are the backbone. Sure Spartans and ODSTs are great but they are few in number in comparison. Even double so for Spartans. Other than that good video. Though I’m curious about the Insurrectionists themselves though. I don’t think I’ve really seen content that talks about them, but then again I’m not sure if it’s really explored.

The live action ODST commercials were god tier level marketing. So was the Halo 3 believe live action campaign. Games were so much better back then…
