That ending perfectly summarises how I feel about the flood. What if we somehow exist in that universe? The universe is so big you really can’t have a word to describe its size. It’s a terrifying thought that something similar is probably existing out there

That's true

We do have all sorts of diseases in the real world, if you engineered it, or gave it enough time, or enough different living things, then its pretty much expected. I mean rabies is basically already zombies and cordyceps is basically the flood for insects.
@noblefish.2 күн бұрын
Thanks brother, also yeah I just think so much of life is unknown.. ya know they say the universe continually expands and our monkey brains haven't even made it to mars who knows what's out there lol.

My question is since the flood can assimilate your memories and then essentially wipe you from your own body. Could they theoretically use the voices of those they've converted? The idea that your comrade is now talking to you as a monstrosity trying to devour you is terrifying.
@Omni6012 күн бұрын
Yes and no, your vocal cords are destroyed. The only way we hear Gravemind talking through the bodies if I remember is him using his psychic powers like in the mission Halo 3 Cortana or whatever. That or the tendrils talk. I forgot which. I say yes however, because I think again, it’s been done in a book where he uses the voices during the Flood-Forerunner war. I have crappy memory.

One thing of note. You say that the Forerunners got so advanced that they rivaled their creators. This actually isn't correct. The Forerunners were completely stumped by Precursor tech and considered it leagues above their own. The Didact kinda has a mental breakdown when he learns that the Precursors were capable of just tossing galaxies around like lego bricks and asks how in the world the Forerunners were ever able to beat them. Otherwise, This video was well researched and I can tell that you did not just read straight from the wiki and call it a day.
@noblefish.2 күн бұрын
You actually make a good point, I think I should of worded that better its not really a fair comparison to say forerunners and precursors were close technology wise when they couldn't even use the old precursor tech lol.
@Dryym2 күн бұрын
@@noblefish. Technically, The Forerunners *did* make use of Precursor tech on specific rare occasions. The Halo Array is able of disrupting neural physics, And the composer sorta accidentally makes use of it. Additionally, All Forerunner slipspace travel uses tiny flakes cut off of a Precursor slipspace crystal which was considered impossible to replicate by the Forerunners. So it's less that they couldn't use it and more like giving a smartphone to a caveman. The caveman could figure out most of the basics of it with some fiddling. But would never be able to replicate it due to not having the mental framework to understand it, Nor the tools to make it. It would be so far ahead of them that even if you tried to explain how it worked, They just would not have the framework to know what you mean. Precursor tech on the other hand is like giving an entire Halo installation to a caveman.

343 forgot that by separating forerunners from humans they created a huge plot hole ( where are the reseeded forerunners). Surely they saved their own race right?
@Dryym2 күн бұрын
The issue is that saying that the Forerunners were literally the same species as humans *also* creates a huge plot hole in that it is literally impossible for it to have happened with the fact that the real world is supposed to be canon in Halo. Which is why I prefer the *actual* most supported version of events as of Halo 3 where the Forerunners are humanity's *creators*. Having created us in their image from some earlier hominid to be their successors.

The Flood can also infect Unggoy and Kig Yar also. Look at Halo Wars. I wouldn’t be surprised if they could infect the Yanmee also.
@GroggyracerКүн бұрын
It would probably be possible, but their fragile bodies and low calcium level would make them more desirable as biomass. Similar to the prophets.

The forerunners are humans
@Dryym2 күн бұрын
If we are going by the canon as of Halo 3, This is incorrect. The most well supported version of events as of Halo 3 is that humanity are Forerunner creations.

@@Dryym 343 calls John a forerunner in the last mission of Halo 3
@DryymКүн бұрын
@@subsume7904 No. He calls John *Forerunner* . Not *a* Forerunner. He also calls John the child of his makers right before that. Distinguishing humanity from the species which created him. We are Forerunner because we were created by them to be their successors. Halo is a big biblical allegory. The Forerunners were intended to be God. Humanity are their creations. The children of "God" created in "his" image to rule over "his" creations.
@5000Seabass4 күн бұрын
Precursor halo lore is straight bullshit. Humanity should have stayed Forunners as was initially intended.
@123Voynich3 күн бұрын
The only part i like about it is the idea that the flood is a god who believes the universe is alive and demands suffering and its implied theyre correct. Something cool about the universe itself being a malevolent entity.
@JairusdeLeon3 күн бұрын
imagine your flood buddies are just baby powder that failed to become a sentient being lmao
@Dryym3 күн бұрын
Actually, What is most consistent with the lore as of Halo 3 was that the Forerunners were humanity's *creators*. Rounding off the biblical allegory of the Halo story. God, In this case, Being the Forerunners. Creating us in their image to rule over their creations.
@Dryym3 күн бұрын
@@123Voynich It's less that the universe is malevolent. More that *all* experience enriches the living universe and is necessary by Precursor philosophy. So, Joy and life is just as necessary for the living universe as suffering and death. It's grander than a simple moral consideration. To the Precursors, These things are not diametrically opposed. They are the same. As in, Not functionally equivalent but opposite. They are different flavours of the same thing on a fundamental level to them. The Precursors themselves are said to have gone extinct and evolved back again numerous times. And it's understandable why when they believe life and death are fundamentally the same thing.

Great video but 343 lore kind of poisoned the well. It deals in themes like humans irresponsibly meddling with nature and the whole sins of our fathers thing. It's just typical left wing hollywood zeitgeist. Bungie era halo always saw humans as heroic saviors and that was refreshing in a sea of media trying sound smart and "deconstructing" everything.

The dust origin thing is very boring as an origin to the flood
