Halston spoke with ET many times about his celebrity clients and how he changed the fashion industry. In these rare interviews with the New York City icon, whose real name is Roy Halston Frowick, he recalled career highlights from the ‘70s and ‘80s, designing clothes for Jackie Kennedy and wanting to make fashion ‘a little more simple.’ Liza Minnelli sat down with ET shortly after Halston died of an AIDS-related illness in 1990. She said of her friend of many years, ‘He single-handedly changed American fashion.’ Ewan McGregor was cast to portray the late fashion mogul in Ryan Murphy’s miniseries, ‘Halston,’ which is now streaming on Netflix.

@victoria7t
@victoria7t Жыл бұрын
@@qwaxerty it actually does sound very american. Back in the forties and fifties Hollywood had this thing with thinking that the accent referred to as a Transatlantic American accent was the accent of choice to use in movies. Watch all the old movies and you can hear that American accent. They made their actors speak in that accent and anybody living the Posh lifestyle at time would affect that accent because due to Hollywood's influence it became like the accent to have if you were of any worth. Mostly by the mid to late 50s that accent was completely done away with. Hollywood no longer used it and most people no longer used it but Halston for some reason decided to continue keeping up that accent. Maybe he preferred it.

@@erinmalone2669 that she definitely has. There’s nobody quite like Liza, and I’m so glad to see her name out there again. She’s truly one of a kind and has always been such a true champion and ally of the LBGTQ community. I’m old enough to have been around during their heyday - I lost too many dear friends to that damn disease - and Liza was always right there in the thick of it. People seem to have forgotten that, which is so sad. She and Elizabeth Taylor both really worked so hard to try to help, to get funding for research, to teach others to NOT be so afraid - Princess Diana (bless her), gets a lot of praise for her work during the AIDS epidemic, as well she should…but long before Diana, there were those two incredible women, and they were absolute fucking heroes. It’s so sad that their hard work was kind of overshadowed by Princess Di, but they weren’t doing it for recognition - they did it for love and for all those they’d lost. I don’t think Liza has ever truly quite got over losing Halston. We should all be so lucky to have a friendship like theirs.

We’ve lost Halston but Liza is still alive, and what an amazing talent she is. I hope she gets the recognition she deserves before it’s too late. I remember when Ellen Degeneres was hosting the Oscars she made a rude comment to Liza who was dressed in an awful blue pant suite (Halston wouldn’t have allowed her to wear that) it was a joke but I think Liza felt humiliated. I felt so sad for her. I hope she gets lots of love, she’s a true icon!
@lbputzer
@lbputzer 3 жыл бұрын
Agree about Ellen. Hosting the Oscars, she made a tasteless joke about mistaking Liza for a man (implying she looked like a drag queen). First, it's never funny to insult someone during a live broadcast (no opportunity to edit or re-shoot). If Liza were some kind of pompous, egotistical person she might deserve to be taken down a peg, but the opposite is true. You could tell by Liza's response that she was dispirited. Secondly, the tone deaf irony of the pot calling the kettle black. If anyone in the Dolby Theater was to be mistaken for a man, it would be Ellen herself.

I usually don't watch any series on Netflix in one day but this one "halston" is it. I finished it in a day. I love any series or movie set in new York . The tone the pace i feel like i was there in his childhood, the 1960's 1970's and 1980's. Its enriched with the fabric of many levels of fashion culture and the effect it has on people and struggling to keep selling themselves as a brand name. Ewan McGregor deserves an oscar. I wondered what halston sounded and acting like without seeing previous footage, i would believe ewan McGregor is halston from past and present.

Classy lady Liza. Evan McGregor absolutely nailed Halston, in every way. Really did Halston justice. Very interesting episodes of Halston on Netflix.

Ewan and the whole cast was fantastic. I binge watched the series and will probably watch it again. It’s a travesty what happened to his brand.

I have been in to fashion all my life. I grew up shopping at Contempo judices etc. as I got older, and my career got bigger i was able to afford Macys than Nordstrom and up and I remember my favorita designers was Halston. I just now learned about his story; I love him more now. He had the same taste in clothes that I envisioned in my mind very minimalista but eye cashing. Mostly comfort.

I just finished watching the series and I bought a bottle of Halston 1-12 ...I already had the z14 ...wow...they are so special aromas! Both bottles are exactly the same, not branded. You must take the tap and smell each to choose which will you use today...I find that detail simply delightful.
