Just curious... Is the speed of an airboat always controlled by the rpm's of the propeller or do some of them have propeller pitch control. ? With pitch control you could theoretically move the boat in reverse by reversing the prop pitch.

you can change the pitch but not while driving because you have to loosen the hub/middle and there is no reverse unless you pitch the prop backwards which would probably sink the boat and the prop is not designed to be pitched backwards.

No one has figured out how to do that but it should be done. Because it could save a ton of fuel once onstep and running. And a reverse would be nice also and a neutral. As when the engine was does the prop would stop. As to it sinking in reverse. I'd say the reverse would only work for slowing down the boat at ramps or slow turning to turn the boat when parked against the bank. Etc. Never wide open.

Airboats are a hybrid of regular boats and airplanes bc they fly over water. They exist in a two dimensional world like boats but maneuver more like airplanes. Wish I had one. GlennFHoward

An extremely primitive watercraft -- and ingenious at the same time. Very inefficient, though. All that horsepower, hardware, fuel consumption and noise to carry two people.
