The one thing I'll never ever understand or justify is their total inability to make a distinction to at least have some minimum amount of empathy for Israel's innocent victims regardless of what they believe about the overall conflict or how they feel about Israel as a whole. If you're so tribal that you can't have sympathy for a murdered baby or a grandma then you're in no position to be giving morality lessons to anyone.

right, but where is the Jewish sympathy for the plight of Palestinians caused by the Israeli Jews that's been ongoing for 50 - 70 years? This could be solved tomorrow if Israel divides Jerusalem, gives the Palestinians a state. There is nothing stopping Israel from doing that and still securing its borders. There might be dead grandmothers but can anyone say their lives matter more than 25,000 dead Palestinians and still have a moral argument? If you don't care about morality and Jewish lives matter more, then I agree, logically it makes more sense to sympathize with dead Jewish people. What we have now is a deranged moral argument whereby Jewish lives are more sacred than non-Jewish lives.

After the Red Army invaded, my grandparents spent 3 years in a Soviet run Gulag in Hungary. On top of the daily back breaking labor they received daily re-education to convince them they were terrible people and the reason everything bad happened in Hungary. Their crime was that they were farmers. It's nice to see that California's colleges and universities are teaching the exact same curriculum my grandparents received.

Except Hamas is recognized WORLD WIDE as a terrorist organization - 15 years or so ago, Hamas leaders said their hope/goal was to drive all Jews back to Isreal so they could wipe them all out at one time. Current times - Oct. 7th happens, Isreal retaliates THEN Hamas leaders go on record (FILMED) saying they will do it (Oct 7th) again, and again, and again. Yet SOMEHOW, that interview does not make it out to the Pro Palestine Crowd to get basic understanding into the mindset of Hamas....and they somehow blame Isreal for BELIEVING Hamas meant what they said and destroying the tunnels, etc. - because at that point they could have surrendered all hostages, surrendered the battle, etc. and they chose not to do so when lives lost were obviously at the lowest number possible.

Maher's bias regarding Israel is cringe worthy, undermining whatever reputation he had for credibility and common sense. But his aberration isn't limited to that subject. He is definitely speaking like a Reagan republican of yore, false equivalence, vaguely calling out so-called "woke" -- a pejorative catch-all that lacks specificity. Or accusing the left as a Whole of being composed of extreme, isolated opinions that don't represent the majority or even a tiny minority on the left. Consider, for example, his accusation about the left being for weird policies like eliminating sports that separate women and men in competitions? Who the hell supports that???? Probably no more than a only few dozen extremists on the left, yet for him it is now the epitome of the left. A list of all the bogus accusations he's made to defend the "woke" bull is too long to get into here. He is spouting too many dumb, obvious right-wing talking points; it's propaganda from the right-media swamp. Is it the influence of all his new wealthy friends?

The palestinias are in a truly sad situation for the past 76 years. But instead of rooting for the underdogs one should read about what led to the situation and which means and strategies were used by each side. Well, in 48' the palestinians attacked the jews in Israel with all their might and with help from all neighboring arab countries, and they failed miserably. The jewish state of Israel claimed the land. In its core this conflict is not that complicated. Then it becomes convoluted with Guerrilla warfare and terrorist attacks against innocent jews (and Israeli arabs who 'get in the way'). Democratic country vs poor civillians and their terrorist leaders... a lose- lose situation for all.
@DwayneShaw1
@DwayneShaw1 7 ай бұрын
The conflict goes back a lot earlier than 1948, and you neglect to mention things like; "In April 1948, Ben Gurion ... Knowing the British mandate in Palestine would end on May 14th, and believing the pieces of Palestine scheduled to be ceded to Israel were too small and scattered, he ordered his army Haganah (the Terrorist group) to take Haifa, Safed, Acre, and Jaffa, even before the Declaration of Independence was published.... lands that the UN intended to allocate to the Palestinians were seized by Haganah" )Akenson) Painting Zionists as victimized victors that deserve the land they stole is lies of omission about history "One of the curious things about early Zionism .. is that although the need for a Jewish homeland was broadcast, exactly where that land should be was very much an open question. In a classic essay published in 1896, "The Jewish Question", Herzl said, "Let them give us sovereignty over a part of the globe that is large enough for our just national needs, and we will take care of everything else." One possible location for the new Promised Land was Argentina (or Uganda)" "More than is the case with most nations, the creation of Israel is full of ironies, Not the least of these is that until the late 1930's most people of the Jewish diaspora were unresponsive to the conception of the land of Israel as a functioning state, and the great majority of religious Jews were opposed. Paradoxically , until the late nineteenth century, enthusiasm for the creation of a Jewish homeland in the Middle East was more widespread among Bible-reading Protestants than among diaspora Jews" "Martin Buber repeated the story of the early Zionist leader Max Nordau's discovery that there were Arabs in Palestine. He rushed excitedly to Herzl and exclaimed, "I didn't know that! If this is the case then we are doing an injustice!." (footnote: Martin Buber, "The National Home and National Policy in Palestine," in Paul R. Mendes-Flohr, A Land of Two Peoples, Martin Buber on Jews and Arabs (New York: Oxford University Press, 1983), p. 86) Quotes from - Donald Akenson (God's Peoples: Covenant and Land in South Africa, Israel, and Ulster) - The 1st thing you need to understand about the conflict is that Zionists originally had no intention of Palestine for a Jewish Homeland - because they knew it was wrong to displace Palestinians, and how problematic it would be, BEFORE THEY DID IT - at the behest and continual funding of doomsday death cult Christians. - The 2nd thing you need to know is most of the people protesting Israel are not supporting Hammas - they are opposing the indiscriminate bombing of a population that is 50% children (for REASONS) - they are opposing the systematic war of attrition by forced settlement on occupied lands that has been condemned by human rights organizations for decades. - The 3rd thing you need to know is that Israel is currently claiming that Hammas is using innocent civilians as shields - therefore, they claim a right to indiscriminately bomb a population that is 50% children (for reasons) - The 4th thing you need to know is that this conflict is funded by doomsday death cult Christians that believe Israel has to exist as a condition of their Jesus's 2nd Coming (Armageddon) and will support Israel regardless of atrocities and international condemnation. - The 5th thing you need to know is Israel uses the very real historical persecutions of Jews to justify more than it should, and to try to silence any dissent. The persecution of a people does not, can not, justify atrocities or the suppression of others. - - then you can begin to have a conversation. Including about how we are where we are and, at this point, Israel has a right to exist. And about how Palestinians haven't exactly been Saints either. But, I maintain that, given the history of the origination of the conflict (and "the 1st thing" above), until the internationally condemned Occupation is ended - Israel has no moral legs to stand on.

Palestinian citizens and soldiers from arab countries all around Israel attacked the Israeli people first, who suffered from constant terorrist attacks from arab citizens since 1921. Adding quotations and following it with lies is quite funny. "Haganah (Hebrew: הַהֲגָנָה ha-Haganah, lit. 'The Defense') was the main Zionist paramilitary organization that operated for the Yishuv in the British Mandate for Palestine.[2] It was founded in 1920 to defend the Yishuv's presence in the region, and was formally disbanded in 1948, when it became the core force integrated into the Israel Defense Forces shortly after the Israeli Declaration of Independence." I suggest reading about these stuff and not just spreading random figments. If one protests and cares deeply about a subject there must be reading and learning involved. Not quoting from a highly anti- Israeli and non factual article...

@@maorblumberg I suggest looking at the last century of demographics and land possession stats -- and then try to say, with an once of intellectual integrity, this conflict isn't a systematic eradication to steal land. The arguments for Jewish rights over Palestinians to land were generic - in that they were the same arguments employed previously by Australian colonists concerning the aborigine, or Canadian settlers regarding natives, or American Manifest Destiny, Afrikaners concerning Xhosa and Zulu; or the British, French, German, Portuguese, and Belgians regarding black Africans. The same justifications were used by all European imperialists to explain why it was alright for the colonist to bash the indigenous population.
