I put leftover tomato paste in an ice cube tray in 1 Tbsp blobs. Once they are frozen they go in a bag so they are already measured out for recipes 😁

I just smush the leftover paste into a plastic sandwich baggie and flatten it...then freeze it....you can later break off whatever amount you need for the next recipe....the pain-in-the-butt is scraping all of the paste OUT of the can!

WOW!! I am cooking it right now abd my kitchen smells like hamburger helper!!!! 😆 I stopped eating animal products Feb of this year and my boyfriend just decided a month ago to not eat animal product 5 days a week! Tubes are much more expensive than the cans! Put the excess paste on some plastic wrap, roll it into a tube/log and freeze. No waste. Or, some folks freeze leftovers in 1 tablespoon blobs, then transfer to a baggie.

I mean no offense by this (I am WFPB for almost 4 years now), but the slight char on the burger/mince was always something I really enjoyed. I will replace it with TVP (rehydrated in Better Than Bouillon No Beef Base) and try this recipe though, because this looked fantastic!

This is great! I added the pasta in and made it in the instant pot. 7 min at high pressure 10 min natural release. Added an extra 1 1/2 cup water for the pasta. I will be putting this in my regular meal rotation 😋

Looks great! Take the extra tomato paste and plop tablespoons on a piece of parchment and freeze it. Throw in a bag or container and you always have it ready.

This is so great! I made this last night and we love it! It's so tasty! I made a little extra sauce and my husband is eating that for his lunch on top of his potatoes. I'm going to eat the leftovers from last night for my lunch. Next time I'm going to make a double batch. My son wasn't here or there would be no leftovers lol he is going to love this! I can't tell you how good (and easy) this is! My family loved it and I know it's going to become a staple around our house. I did cut up an onion and sauteed it in water until translucent before putting in all the other ingredients. My teenage son and I ate it over rotini pasta, but my hubby doesn't like pasta, so I put his over cooked brown rice (which I always have on hand). He thought it was yummy too!

I scoop the tomato paste into my silicone ice cube freezer trays by tablespoonfuls and freeze it. Then I don't feel the rush to use up the whole can. Once frozen, I transfer to a pyrex container so I can pop the lid whenever I need some 😉

I made this for my family. We are newly vegan (3.5 months) and just now trying to cut out oil and processed foods. This is so good but I did have to add some miso paste, veggie broth, half a diced onion, diced mushrooms, and additional nooch. Our palettes are not accustomed to no salt yet. I am trying 😊.

take your extra tomato paste and put it in ice cube trays, freeze. Pop out of trays and store in freezer bags. 1 cube is 1 tablespoon. No waste!

Tried this last night. Really good 👍 I added a pint of chopped celery and carrots 🥕 I had in the fridge and cooked it in the instant pot (10 min high pressure) I also used about 5 fresh tomatoes 🍅 blended. It was a bit more soupy. After it was cooked I added some left over tofu/cashew ricotta from lasagna night. Also used just 3 cups water since I was out of soymilk. Cooked the pasta separately too. It was really good! Thanks for another hit!

I'm not proud of this, but YOU have given me a much better idea for a quick and comforting meal. With leftovers! I've made this I think 4 times, each time I tweaked the recipe. The last one was the best. Ingredients stay the same, it's just how I cooked it. I add the cup of lentils and three cups of water in the sauce pan and cook them for 20 to 30 minutes. Then I added all the listed ingredients. It was a little loose so I cooked the noodles and strained them, added the pasta to the sauce and cook on low for 10 more minutes.

@@drewe9514 it was okay. Next time I will water sauté onions and garlic and add some mushroom to the mix, double the amount of tomatoes and add spinach at the end just to wilt. I did add bread crumbs at the end and baked it in the oven. We all liked that. I’m not sure if my additions will keep it in the “hamburger-less helper” category but this is a good recipe with lots of fiber from the lentils.

My go-to pasta sauce on the quick is a tin of chopped tomatoes a tin of cooked brown lentils a tablespoon or two of nut butter (usually cashew or almond) and Italian seasoning It seems to work for me The casserole idea is genius toast crumbs made in the nutribullet and fifteen minutes in the oven we will try it.

Hi John. I like your nut butter in the sauce hack! Yes Hamburger Helper was an American staple used as a recipe starter if you had ground hamburger. So it is a pasta sauce, but we also cooked the lentils and pasta right in there. :)

@@CastledarkDweller27 I was initially trying for a Bolognese style so I mix the nut butter into the tomatoes (which I prefer a little chunky) then throw in the lentils as the "ground meat" I will say I haven't thought of blending them but if I did I would use red lentils.

I added a tablespoon of Well Your World Date Powder, it cut the acid from the tomato and really kicked it up a notch I thought! I used the tomato paste in the tube though so maybe that made it more tomatoey since it says it's double concentrated. Yummy! This is really good recipe!

Great recipe ''Big Dill''! My kid can't have nutrtional yeast [used to have UC, Dr Greger advises against it forthat condition] so, on a hunch I subbed a squirt of mustard and it was just enuf tang. This is such a good and easy recipe! The rains have begun in Vancouver (BC) and I'm making this at least once a week. Now please don't disown me but I don't like green/brown lentils so I sub in red lentils for thickness and riced cauliflower for texture. Works for me and I like it best over a roasted potato. Yummers! Eating some right now.

i made this with whole wheat pasta and had a horrible reaction. it turns out i have issues with gluten that i did not know about. but i did not want to give up on this recipe so tonight i tried it again serving it over brown rice and no problems.....and it was excellent. i added a tsp of garlic chili sauce. lime juice, and in the final 10 minutes i threw in 1/2 of a rough chopped onion. e these additions added excellent flavor to this dish. i think it will now be a weekly make for me. thx guys!

Love this! But... what, no Instant pot??? Sacrilege! lol. I busted my knee a while back and was in a wheelchair for many months, so I parked my IP on a kitchen chair to keep it at my level, and used that almost exclusively for cooking everything! I got so used to using it after all those months, I hardly ever use the stove anymore.

So I made this tonight. My dog LOVES her veggies and she LOVES the recipe too. (She has dog kibble too but will go for her veggies first)

I just made this tonight. It doesn't taste like hamburger helper. It was a very enjoyable dish and I would make it again.

I do recommend trying soy curls for a more whole food option compared to TVP. But that’s great
