I'm just gonna put something out there: Lewis has had a whole load of reliability issues, I respect that, but Nico has done enough to get a championship, he has taken enough advantage himself to get himself in this position. It's one thing to have your teammate to have issues, it's another to actually make sure you use that to your advantage. Now I understand that Nico isn't the quickest driver, but he is leading the WDC. In my eyes, anybody leading a WDC is deserving. Mercedes obviously see Nico as WDC material, or he wouldn't be in the team. I do understand as well, that if Lewis didn't have these issues, he would probably be in the lead though. But Nico is at the moment, so that is what counts going into Abu Dhabi.

Be honest here, Rosberg has won races on his own, while every Bottas victory so far were caused by Hamilton having problems, that alone shows that Rosberg was actually really good and didn't just have the best car. You allways have to compare teammates, because they have the same car most of the time, except when they're using experimental parts on one of the cars. Comparing Rosberg and Hamilton, of course Hamilton is better, but saying that Rosberg is/was medicore is just because people don't want to admit that he was the better driver in 2016. Also, everyone seems to forget that Rosberg wan't able to comepet for the wdc because of his issues with the car in the last race of 2014, so looking for excuses and saying that Hamilton only lost to Rosberg because of his engine failure in Malaysia just doesn't work, because then you'd have to say the same for 2014 regarding Rosberg. "Hamilton only won because Rosberg had reliability issues in Abu Dhabi 2014" said noone ever, so why do that same thing regarding Hamilton in 2016? They both had almost the same amount of problems in 2014 and 2016, so that makes them almost equal that two seasons imo. Also, by your logic, Hamilton also only won because, like Rosberg, he had the best car on the grid (which obviously isn't true, but that's what you're basicaly suggesting with your comment). Want to hear a better example? Everyone says Vettel only won 2 of his 4 wdc because of his car (2011, 2013). Then tell me how Vettel ended up winning so many times in 2013, while Webber didn't win even once? I know what happende in malaysia, but other than that, he was nowhere the whole season, and he also had the best car under his butt. Now compare that to Rosberg. Same thing as with Bottas, compared to Webber and Bottas, Rosberg actually competet for the wdc 2 of the 3 years the Mercedes was dominant, which suggests that Hamilton is better, yeah, but Rosberg isn't that far off. I'm still pretty upset about the fact that most Hamilton fans are so subjective, when stating their opinion. I don't like Hamilton, but still I have to admit that he's one of the sports greatest drivers of all time, I don't have to like him to realise that. But Hamilton fans on the other hand, I've seen very few good examples of them, most of them make Rosberg worse than he actually was and they act as salty and childish as Hamilton himself after 2016, who couldn't even shut up about being beaten by Rosberg 2 years after it happened. Sorry for the wall of text, I'm not here to start an argument, I just wanted to point that all out because it bugs me that there are still people saying stuff like that.

When you meet a competitor who's had the best of you before, your confidence kind of takes a shaking, you doubt yourself just a little bit no matter how confident you are. It's a mental game. I believe the difference between Lewis & Nico was the strength of their minds, because I believe they are equally talented. If I'm Hamilton, and I don't come away with the championship them I'm a very happy person, as happy as someone not the 2016 champion can be. 1) If he wins this race, he'll have won more races than Rosberg. 2) He won possibly the last Brazilian GP race at Interlagos in his time as a F1 driver. Finally being able to say he's won in Senna's homeland I think he'll take over being WC. There's always another WC next season, but possibly not another Brazilian GP in his racing career.

F1 is such a difficult sport to predict. I can just as easily see Nico dominant, qualifying on pole and winning the race, as I can Lewis doing the same. The question then becomes if Lewis is dominant who, if anyone, can pressure Nico to ensure he doesn't finish high enough (I think he only needs 3rd if Lewis wins) to win the title? I don't see anyone, with the sheer class of the Mercedes. It'll be those two out front, short of some unforeseen incident, and I think all the permutations favour Nico and for that reason alone, as in every other respect they are effectively equal (car, pace, motivation), I think he'll win the title even if he ends up 2nd and doesn't win the race.

I'm not usually a Lewis fan as, in interviews, he can sometimes come across badly as being a little incoherent and affected. But this is quite a nice press conference from them both. They've been so close in terms of performance. 9 wins each as it stands. While there is a good case to say that ultimately Lewis can (when he's on form) deliver a qualifying lap 0.1-0.2 seconds quicker than Nico, being a top Grand Prix driver isn't solely about ultimate speed. It's a whole host of factors that are sometimes lost to modern fans of the Grand Prix racing. Senna, for example, was probably ultimately quicker than Prost over a qualy lap - but in their 2 years together Prost gathered more points through intelligence, consistency and driving with his head as much as his heart. Just as Prost was ultimately quicker in qualifying than Lauda in their time together but Lauda took the '84 title through guile. For the sport as a whole, and as a personal preference, I would prefer Nico to take the title. I admire his intelligence, work ethic and tenacity. It will be fascinating to see how it pans out.

But they both deserve to win, regardless of "luck". The fact that ROS has given Hamilton a run for his money this season is the jewel in what can be described as a pretty dull season. Half of the field if given the same car probably wouldn't be able to touch Hamilton in terms of points like Rosberg has. It could have been a lot different, we could have seen another Shumacher/Barrichello situation where poor old Rubens didn't even make a dent in Michael's points. It's no secret that Hamilton is the best driver in F1 at the moment but anyone who can give him a run for his money deserves his due paid.

CookProductions1 I agree that Rosberg has been excellent competition for Hamilton, however Rosberg has major flaws, which in my opinion shows he doesn't deserve a Championship (yet). Those flaws are: 1) He can't drive fast in the wet; i think it was Monaco which showed this the most, he was driving around extremely slow wheras Lewis who is well known for his prowess in the wet was MUCH faster. He also nearly lost it in Brazil, a race that Lewis cruised through, even after 3 safety cars and 2 red flags. 2) He buckles when put under pressure when driving wheel to wheel; i can think of quite a few times this has happened, Austria being the defining moment of how much better Lewis is at being aggressive and racing inches away from other drivers.

I really hope Nico takes the title this weekend, since Lewis already won 3. But I also have to be honest and say, Nico is very fortunate to be in this position, given Hamitons downs this season. Had it not been for some of Hamiltons screw ups and Engine problems, he would have probably be champion already. I don't think the fact that he did that in the race, in order to attempt to win the world championship, lessens what he says - I'm sure he'd have much much preferred to have driven off into the distance and taken the title, than having to drive at a comparatively snail's pace in order to engineer some kind fo situation for Rosberg. Also, the questions are not present in this clip - did a "journalist" ask him whether, if needs be, he'll play a tactical game in order to win the championship (he says, "in terms of tactics in the race", which suggests somebody did in fact ask him about tactics)? If so, he answers by saying he values disappearing into the distance, and racing his own race, over playing tactics, but doesn't actually say he WOULD NOT be tactical.

Nico doesn't deserve to win this year because he has been naughty aggressive and want to win everything from Lewis. He blocked him in Australia but he was lucky not to have a puncture. Braked too early into turn 1 in Bahrain at the start which made Bottas hit Hamilton. Blocked him again in Spain but instead they were both out of that race. Pushed him wide on the last lap in Austria. What do you guys think about this? Please comment.

Howsemany 456 agreed but that's all said and done Lewis has proved all 3 times this season that he's the best in the wet also for the Max fans out there who say max is the better driver it's about the downforce and driver skill in the wet the red bull is the best chassis in the field minus the power unit, max couldn't keep up with Lewis in Brazil and made a mistake trying so, he's a great driver but he's no Hamilton, Schumacher or senna in the wet yet and that's what makes you the best, nice catch though
