Long power reserve serves as a dual function. It allows for your watch to keep time longer obviously but the more technical part of a long power reserve means the watch has a longer constant amplitude, meaning your watch is consistent and isochronistic for a longer period of time. Most 40 hours start degrading in amplitude after 24 hours. 80 hour means your watch will be more precise for more time, in this case a few more days.

The Khaki King is a great watch - I have a standard champagne version in my collection and it is a handsome thing; but it is a "field watch" only in the sense that a Seiko 5 "dive watch" is only meant to spend time with you in the bath. @@Ferien7 a very good question. Somehow I have it in my head that a "real" field watch is something one wears on campaign, are likely to be issued rather than bought and have utility and function as core elements of their design. Another couple of positive notes: The day and date change simultaneously with a single split-second click sometime during the 23:58 minute. No long transition. Will stick with me stainless because as a PVD with the same three weaknesses at a higher price it just doesn’t represent value to me. What a pity Hamilton doesn’t address the three key areas you and no doubt many have mentioned about what is meant to be a field watch. Poor Lume no AR and no real water resistance. And the price is higher with PVD and leather? Beautiful looking watch but I’d rather a G shock if I was outdoors and roughing it. Great review. Great movement. Great Watch face.

I own the same watch in stainless steel version and my negatives are exactly the same, I would just add that huge L2L on top of 3 you mentioned (49 mm on a 40 mm case is just too much). I don’t understand the the hype with lume and water resistance. Maybe I’m different, but I have no use for it as I have always worked day time and I’m always indoors at night, as for WR I’m not a scuba diver or work on a boat, and if I go swimming my wallet, keys and watch get taken out of my pocket and a little water from rain or washing my hands can be handled by 50 meters of water resistance. As for me the movement, design and price compared to cost sold me on the SS/champagne dial @ $360. My only niggles are the 49mm lug to lug and the under finishing/design of the case, but if I wanted that I would have purchased the Seiko Alpinist and paid the $300 extra. My choice really came down to the Swiss movement.

That's just it. The regular Khaki Field has the full 100m, but; no weekday. The Khaki King has the weekday, but; no 100m. Apparently, Hamilton doesn't want you having both until you move up the food chain. Also, I had much rather have the 4Hz and less power reserve than 3Hz and more reserve. I'm not sure how much of that would be an issue for a private watchmaker somewhere down the line. Lastly, some PVD coatings are better than others. I'm left wondering how good is Hamilton's.
