I think about the contrast of the selflessness of Washington. He was the first “ruler” to voluntarily walk away for the good of the new nation. If we wish to be free, we have a responsibility to remain educated in the politics of our time, to never dismiss the government as an entity that we do not ourselves create through our votes, and to immerse ourselves in the political discourse in a thoughtful and effective manner in order to achieve the most good. Never be tired of politics, for that is how those who would take your rights away from you will convince you to give them away.
