That wasn't a sidestep. That was the player being dragged by the hitbox of the monster's body. Or more so felt like the combo was magnetized for your weapon to connect with the monster. Since there have been some funky hitbox detection in the trailers especially gunlance.

The big bang combo is definitely quicker. The focus strike felt lame to me, was expecting something different. I really hope that upward swing is indeed a counter. Also that "sidestep" isn't really a sidestep, it seemed the hunter was just dragged by the monster's hitbox.

6:50 that attack cant be spammed , its a wound closing attack meaning you can only use it when the monster has a wound on it and it closes it. Youll probably want to use this attacks when the wound is about to disapear.

Another thing, I doubt that that was a side step unfortunately. If you look at the dude there was no animation to indicate that he was actually making a side step. I have the same thing happen to me in World when the monster pushes me to the side after a combo like what was shown. BUT if it is a side step I’m mega happy

I'm going to disagree on the no skill expression part. Ever had a bad hammer main in your group? Dude can't dodge shit at the head of a monster, gets ko'd constantly, so goes and beats on monster's tail with a weapon, that can't cut tails. The skill expressions with hammer is in the positioning, not necessarily the skills set. Knowing each monster, when to get in and get out, to get that picture perfect KO. I know the meme is Unga Bunga , me go Bonky, but to be a "good" hammer player, you need to be much more then that.
