Great build, paintjob and weathering, dug out my A-37, wich happened to be an ancient kit from 1970. Gonna have to do quite a lot of scratch building and surgery on this one... One way to get the shape for that interior gun bay wall is you take some play dough ans shove it in there and try to make it she shape of the gun bay once you are happy with you take the dough out and trace it on to a paper, cut that shape out and test fit it on your model before you make a plastic card replica of to go with your model. This is one of my favorite airplanes, it has that same cool vibe as the OV-10 Bronco.

I thinks it key to re-emphasis what you were saying. A lot of scratch building like this is to Represent versus Replicate. A simple square styrene with a few Sprue rods on either sides fools us in scale as being that junction box, a random old stencils looks like an info tag on it that you’d see. Scratch should be to fill in those voids present or enhance existing detail. Great video!

The A37 was a very strong performer when not loaded down. I believe thrust to weight was somewhere around .7 to 1 when flown clean. As a real pilot, as I may have said in comments before, aircraft fly worse and worse the heavier they are. I'd never want to fly many of the "aircraft" built by modelers as they stick on every piece of ordinance there is room for. Most aircraft designs are works of art. Very sexy with beautiful curves and lines. Only loaded to GW do most fly like a delivery truck. The A37 was the perfect examle. Beautiful work on the model, but if it was real would fly like an anvil!

Enjoyed your build and vid. I agree with your pep talk on scratch building and hope more of your viewers try it. You can use a thing called a contour gauge to get the shape for those interior bulkheads, but in this size, I find them not very accurate and tricky to use, so I end up using trial and error most of the time too.
@HammerheadModelMakingКүн бұрын
Ha ha, thats the exact reason I haven't used a contour gauge, I could never find one that was meant for something as small as a model airplane!
@windsorspitfire20 сағат бұрын
@@HammerheadModelMaking Another option is to press a soft lead wire along the interior where you want to put the bulkhead, then carefully take it out without unbending it and trace that for your contour. I think I had better luck with this method when I did this type of thing more often.

Beautiful build Brett, you did a great job on it. If you don't mind a tip or two,one if scratch building like the gun bay. You might want to try scratch build the ammo canister out of lead and maybe your inter bulk head depending how thick it is to the half's of the fuselage. This might help in proving weight to your nose if you can make as much scratch parts for a small area like that. As for the rest of the build awesome job and just wish I could have the room needed so I can break all my scratch building stuff and air brush. Great job and a great way to start the new year..😊😊😊😊

Having both this kit and the old Monogram kit to compare side by side, I can tell you that Trumpeter copied the Monogram kit pretty much point for point. The only real difference being that Trumpeter added recessed panel lines, where the Monogram kit had raised lines. The addition of PE is a great improvement. FYI, getting a selection of guitar strings would be advised. Annealled guitar string works for oxygen hoses, power cables, coiled headset cords (stretched or not), hydraulic hoses, etc...

Superb job as usual Brett. You've done an amazing job on this. Just your point about fasteners and bolts etc, if you use a sheet of tin foil, put your micro drill bit into your pin vise upside down then put the foil over a rubber/eraser not sure which term you'd use and use the blunt end of the pin vise you can push out tiny circles and what not that you can use for bolts.
