Thanks mate. Some great gifts, I haven't had the chance to use the splitting axe yet. Yeah food was delicious, you can't beat food cooked on the fire and a nice beer or 6! Haha

Nice leaving presents Basha. Hope you've settled in well back down south. I saw Ray Mears on a canoe trip down the River Wye set a fire straight on the grass once, so good to see the right way of doing it. As battle tactics developed over the years they must have led to the abandonment of lots of former defensive positions. Dover Castle and the Western Heights forts are positioned very much like the two you were at. They both have Roman and older origins. Good to see you again, atb.

Cheers Ade. Yeah great presents and I've settled in back home quite nicely thankyou, although I am going to miss the mountains. I've always de-turfed, just makes sense to me as it abides by the leave no trace rules. I don't know why anyone would do otherwise. Thanks for watching. Atb Shaun

It was quite tasty mate, give it a go. Must be two hill forts called Maiden Castle in that case. I was well chuffed with those mate, shows the thought about it and I will definitely to them to good use. Thanks for watching. Atb Shaun

Nifty little bit of kit, as was the bigger one in the box as well. Not a big fan of salmon but got to say, it did look dam tasty on the fire. Nice area to camp and hike, cheers Alan

Hello Sean (sorry if I got your name wrong) enjoyable video I used to find back in the day that midges were the worst thing in Scotland still didn't put me off though I used to find the lomond hills were gentle rolling hills different to the highland hard ones but still excellent walking, I used to find fresh lemon juice was good at keeping the midges at bay , then I found natures repellent MUD and it works surprisingly give it a go next time in Scotland oh did you get the chance to go to skye and do some Munro's thanks for sharing

Yeah, can't let the midges win! I love the Lomond Hills, I have explored every inch of them. I found them great to have on my doorstep (before I moved). I did plan my trip to Skye but given the time I had left and there being so much I wanted to do before leaving, I opted to drive the NC500, wild camp on Suilven and walk the Fife Pilgrim Way instead. Although I will get there one day, just not sure when now. Thanks for watching. Atb Shaun

Man all I got was a small brass plaque with my service number, somebody was loved :) The general feeling about hill forts is that the population only went there in times of trouble, another is that they were just status symbols. Either way I find them fascinating.

Another good vid Shaun, the Lomonds are surprisingly good walking considering they're not that big or 'sexy'. Nice one on the leaving prezzies mate, a term of abuse in the Navy was 'shit dits' which is probably not a million miles away from yours. Hope the move has gone as smooth as it can.

Cheers mate. Love the Lomonds, going to miss them. Always a good adventure exploring them. Well chuffed with the leaving presents, couldn't have wished for better. I might make a point of looking into where 'Shitlips' originates, but yet again I don't think I can be bothered! lol. Yep the move was a relatively smooth transition thanks. Thanks for watching. Aaah no the f..king midges. With all the know how today you'd think there was a definitive solution to them but no. The only solution we have is to get inside a net. Good camp though besides that and walk out. Cool views and spot for a defensive position. I wonder what they thought of the midge. Have a good week. Mark
@BASHADweller
@BASHADweller 5 жыл бұрын
Cheers Mark. Yeah the midge is a destroyer of many otherwise pleasant camps! I had insect repellent on too and it didn't make a jot of difference. I reckon they were made of tougher stuff back then and not too fussed. They may have had a method of repelling them that has now been lost. Thanks for watching. Atb Shaun

Smidge works, same with the Avon Skin So Soft but its no good around the eyes when you get sweaty so you have to use the nets for that. The wee b'stards do ruin things though.
@WyeExplorer
@WyeExplorer 5 жыл бұрын
@@deeps2761 Yeah I know about the Avon cream. Marines have been using it apparently. So the ancients used to think they ruined things also. Ha ha!
