Top Gear is definitely not about cars (well maybe just a bit), but it's more about the chemistry between these 3 geezers. I wouldn't mind watching them host an advert trying to sell me a frying pan or an egg whisk. You can't script chemistry.

Fifth Gear was Top Gear. After the BBC made changes to the original Top Gear by sacking it, Clarkson went on to do the new Top Gear, and thus 5th Gear was born from the ashes of that transition. I find the information about vehicles that Top Gear UK features to be fine, as they aren't one's most people cannot afford anyway, except I did by a Porsche Boxter and a BMW based on what Top Gear UK mentioned, and they're humor to me is fantastic, which is the show's biggest attraction in my humble opinion.

Top Gear don't seriously advertise themselves as giving out consumer advice so why should people get angry when they don't do serious features on cheap cars!

Exactly! Well said. I tell those that complain to do their research through Consumer Reports in regards to cheap car information. My god could you imagine how boring the show would be if they constantly delved into reviews of cheap cars? Cheap cars aren't performance oriented. Granted they touch on affordable performance quite often, but I'm totally with you on not getting enough of those amazing machines that they do showcase. Particularly Aston Martin. I actually played this game with a friend and I found it way more advantageous to be in the driver seat because: 1. it's much more natural that you press buttons and 2. you also have a certain sense of hierarchy where the passenger obeys every stupid order you give (like pointing to the side airbag and making the other look ahaha)

Scott Davidson The reason that Top Gear actually works is because the 3 guys are actual mates, and do stupidly immature matey things to each other. Yes, their personalities are slightly magnified while on camera but not my much. James really is that pedantic, Jezza really is that much of a buffoon, Richard really is that short. There's also quite a lot of unscripted stuff in there too. All the copies just shoved 3 presenters together and copied some of the content directly. There's no chemistry there none of that affection that the boys actually feel for each other, underneath a layer of exasperation they all feel for each other.
