one of the better kept secrets in the Hammond world. you can usually get these for free, or close to it. hook one up to a 710 Leslie (a 760/900/910 will also do) and they really kick. most wouldn't know it wasn't a B3.

Hi I wish I could help you. Honestly I personally don't have any experience with, or ever seen, or played on the XB3 or XC3 series. All that I know is that they were made from 1993 to 1998 by Hammond Suzuki... Suzuki bought the rights from the original Hammond Organ Co. years ago 1980s I believe.. They are a digital creation of the B3/C3. I assume they are built a lot differently then the older " tone generator" organs... I live in Canada and I order parts for my organs from an outfit called " Tonewheel General Hospital" out of the USA.... that is for the older Hammond tone wheel organs.... I would try getting in contact with Hammond Suzuki... I wish you luck and hope you can get some info on your volume pedal

Hey man! Great job! I just got a T522 today. Do you know if the T500-series models have any other differences between them but cosmetical? This one has been sitting in an apartment and hasn’t been played maybe even since the 70s… Well they said it should be working and I got it for free. We’ll see… Any tips for getting it up to speed? Anything particular that one should be aware of?

I believe the Hammond T522 is pretty much the same organ, except the cabinet. I think some came with a Tape Player on the right hand cheek block that you could play along or record your self and play back... Other then that it has the same Drum Machine, built in Leslie " tremolo unit ", real "Chorus Vibrato", Reverb Tank etc....My advice would to be cautious before plugging it in an outlet....check the "AC Cord" and make sure it's not damaged! Old Hammond ac cords can be sketchy at best! They get brittle over time and can start a fire, or give you a shock! Other thing to do is get some ''Hammond Oil" don’t use any other oil. The most common problem with Hammond Organs is them being neglected! The "Tone Generator" in Hammond organs are supposed to be oiled once a year with special Hammond Oil Tablespoon in each Tone Gen. reservoir and little bit if needed in Motor/ Vibrato Scanner . Some times they haven’t been oiled in decades.. If you turn on the organ and get no sound it might be that the Tone Generator dried out and seized up. If so.... You're going to need to be patient and persistent!!!!. Here's what to do. Put a little bit of Hammond Oil in Motor/ Vibrato Scanner. and LOTS in the Tone Gen reservoirs and let the oil work its way down the wick/threads into the Tone Gen. Than try again in 2 weeks. Repeat the process... I've even cranked the Tone Gen with my hands to loosen it up. Note, if you stick your hands in there DO NOT TUCH ANY CAPACITORS!!!! even if the organ is un plugged a Capacitor can hold a charge and kill you! No Joke! Be Careful! There is a Big Capacitor mounted by the Motor so be aware of it. I've gotten the Tone Generator Un Seized in 3 of my Hammond organs....It can take Months. After you get the organ running again the Tone Gen Bearings are going to make a horrible squealing noises for a while The T 582 took me around 4 months to get running....Let me know if you have any questions and best of Luck....Don't get discouraged any Hammond can be fixed up

@@seangrieve8181 hey at least I get sound out of it and everything pretty much seems to work! The drawbar panel/plate is moving slightly and that seems to make some of the drawbars to have some contact-issues. Also the leslie speed button doesn’t always switch to fast but it seemed to get better after I played for a while. The bass pedals are a bit klonky and noisy but maybe it is what it is? Now I have to order some Hammond generator oil and let a repair guy to give it a look-through. I have to say I’m also pretty interested in some of the mods. The internal Leslie kind of surprised me though!

@@biggsoft6910 Awesome buddy! Yes first thing is definitely get some Hammond oil. I order mine from "Tonewheel General Hospital" They got pretty much everything to rebuild an organ. As for the drawbars panel, shouldn’t move. Sounds like it is missing or loose bolt or screw...it might be in the back side of the organ. It's a bit of a pain in the ass to get at. There is a metal shield that you have to remove to get at the backside of the drawbars. When you take the shield off there are a bunch of circuit boards in there that you might have to move too. I had a couple drawbars that didn’t work because the little wires that connect to the back of them were broken off, so I had to re solder... If you get the shield off you'll notice a few blue, notchy, circular, potentiometers, looking things, on some of the circuit boards. You can turn them to adjust the output volume/Vibrato Volume. and the one that is on righthand side when looking into the back, that is the lower manual volume adjuster....I would get some Contact Cleaner like DeoxIT. spray it into each drawbar opening one at a time, and pull them in and out a bunch, to clean the drawbar contacts... And yeah the foot pedals can be clunky and even squeak. If you can prop or lean the organ so you can see under the foot pedals some how , make sure the nuts holding them on are tight...I had one that was squeaking I sprayed a little WD 40 in there, and it stopped LOL. The best thing you can do is rock back and forth the rocker switches on the organ..it actually cleans them out and they start working again....You’re on the right track and I’m happy for you that the Tone Generator wasn’t seized ..best of luck hope that helps.

Caution when using contact spray! At the moment I am restoring a 1973 TX-500 that I bought in 2005 as a first owner. Now I have discovered that the drawbar housing of the lower manual has already been patched, because it is full of cracks and shows signs of a makeshift repair. At some point the previous owner must have worked with contact spray, the remains of which slowly decomposed the plastic. Thankfully the damage was repairable enough that the drawbars still work perfectly, despite the bad looking case. I disassembled everything, cleaned the contacts with brake cleaner and ear swabs. Then new Vaseline (a chemically very mild grease) was applied very thinly. I'm just screwing the organ together and will know next week if everything is working again. Greetings from Germany! 🙂🇩🇪🤝 Edit: Everything is working fine again. There are still two noisy drawbars in the lower manual, but everything is better than before. It‘s now ok for me.

Right in the beginning when in turn on the drum machine / arpeggiator I'm vamping the cords of Fugees - "Nappy Heads"...but I think the song your thinking of is the one I did right after.. It's Joe Jackson - "Steppin' Out"... I also did the organ intro of Jimmy Cliff - "Many rivers to cross" @ 2:19....the rest is me just having fun messing around.

At 1.00 just about sums this modern version of the Hammond up!……But the later sound is just about there! Thank you for this ‘Hammond organ education’ and great playing. This new Japanese look back then was far removed from the original 1950’s looks though! It put a damper on Hammonds at that time sadly. The first Hammond organ designers really knew their stuff didn’t they.

I agree with you on the cabinet design, adding drum machines, and the solid state amplifier being less desirable to their predecessors...It's like, why redesign something that's awesome already, or make changes to a classic?? I think it's a result of the technology of the times, and when Laurens Hammond past away in 1973 there was a lot of changes happening in the company ....In the 70s Hammond phased out the "Tone Generators" and switched to Integrated circuits, witch lead to Hammond organs demise in 1985. I think Hammond was just trying to stay current with those times, trying to appeal to a dying home organ market when Synthesizers were just starting to take over. I wonder if Hammond stuck with their original classic organ designs if they would of went out of business??? Maybe...The beautiful thing about the Hammond T 500 series is, it's the Last Hammond organ models to have a "Tone Generator" I have to say it's not that bad for what it is....kinda is the ultimate "all in one" home organ with the drum machine, and the built in Leslie Tremolo Unit.

@@seangrieve8181 The organ market had not started to die when Hammond started to change. All the advances that had been made in purely electronic organs in the early 1970's with the introduction of integrated circuits and later microprocessors made Hammonds look very outdated. If I compare the typical early 1970's Hammond with something like an Elka or Yamaha then to the average casual organ player the Hammond could just do what a Hammond had always done, while the Elka and Yamaha could do the Hammond stuff plus strings, brass, pianos, and on top of that they had a decent drum machine - something Hammond couldn't do properly (they sounded like hitting a cardboard box). In Europe most professional players had started switching to German or Italian brands, so Hammond pretty much had to do something to survive.

@@organfairy Yeah the evolution of organs are quite interesting...Like the Wah Wah pedal came from a Thomas Organ...heck it was in a late 60s early 70s Lowrey organ that I use to have it was called the Waw Waw...that organ had a "Golden Harp" effect too that was really cool. by pressing a side button on the volume pedal it would arpeggiate the cord you were playing. Had a pitch bender on the other side of the volume pedal. LOL ...some of those 70s organs were Synths really. Like Yamaha used in Do it Again Steely Dan...it had this ribbon strip thing going on.....Solina or"ARP" string machine/synth was derived from the string section out of an Eminent's 310U Organ....so many cool features in all these organs but I still think nothing puts a chill up my spine like a real, fully functioning, Hammond tone wheel organ, through a screaming Leslie... That will always be a classic.
