Ok, I'll be the first (O: In the pipe organ trade, we builders refer to the channel panning which Hammond has included, call this a 'chest layout'. 'C' side is ALWAYS on the left when facing an organ case vs. '#' side on the right. These layouts are called 'M' 'A' and chromatic. Even with the A layout, bottom C of the rank would still be on the left center position. Art, keep in mind that Hammond Organ Co, has a line of 'classic' organs that utilize these samples trickled down in our performance portable instruments that we use today. Thanks again.

Thanks for the note on panning with pipe organs. I don't think I've come across that terminology before. Nice of Hammond to incorporate several panning options in the XK5.

Hi Mr. Art, I can't put it into words of how much I really appreciate your tutorials! I wanted to ask, when panning the pipe configurations, to get the total realistic experience, would the amplification of the XK5 need to be a left and a right speaker fed through a mixer on 2 seperate channels, or, 2 separate amps, correct? I see you have two speakers on your XK5. Are they 'powered' monitors? Again, Art, thank you very much!! 🎹 Looking very forward to learning more of the XK5.

Hello Timothy. Yes, to get the intended stereo effect from the panning configurations of the XK5, you will want to send the stereo signals (there is a separate left and right audio output on the back) into a mixer - two separate channels. Most mixers have a panning knob, so on your mixer, you would pan the left channel hard left, and the right channel hard right. That's how I set up mine when I take the Hammond XK5 out to play. At home, it will come out of the speakers that you see by connecting it through an RME Babyface Pro audio interface, which connects to my MacBook, and then I send the audio signal from the audio interface into an integrated amplifier in my workspace. Mine are not powered monitors but that would be another option (and probably much simpler than my configuration).
