Very true. I was drag racing at Crail recently in my manual M140i and just cannot launch anywhere near as quickly as the autos doing a 2nd gear launch. Launching in 2nd really helps control the wheelspin. Amazing cars though, love mine!

To be honest the face-lift 400 bhp rs3 is in a slightly different price category to these cars and would be an obvious winner, only interesting race for it with these hatches is a rolling race from 20mph with an m140 tbh

Could you please add a comment about tyres ? They can affect performance significantly, and (for example) @ 13:28 S3 sits on Falken tyres... Not having had them, I am unsure if they are as grippy as the stock tyre.... thanks

Track Time Videos It’s not only a factor of time to shift gear in a manual, the ratios are different too so they can claw back some (if not all) of lost distance. Manufacturers only state the times for auto gearboxes as ~0.1sec to 100 less than a Manual, but put in an extra gear (say 7-speed auto vs 6-speed manual) in order to cheekily convince the customer the auto is “faster”, as the price premium of the auto is up to $2500 extra, and possibly extra repairs over time, depending.

@@joebloggs5629 that's just not correct. Over a 1/4 mile the autos are not getting into 6th 7th or 8th gear, it's not just the time taken by changes but also the momentum lost. The comparisons between auto vs manual Golf R, M140i, S3, M2 etc show that the differences are vast. What manufacturer state as differences are incorrect much like their mpg suggestions.

My AMG A45 was stock and dynoed 398.4 BHP, i had her from new and run her in properly and only used V Power+ fuel ... my mate has an M140i and he has never beaten me, close but i suppose its conditions etc ... the more recent RS3 would have beaten them all tbf

I run a stock M240i and I've got to say, with the right rubber (I use MPS3s), you can flatten the throttle from standstill in the dry with all aids off and it barely spins up - if at all. I'm not even running an LSD. It really makes 4WD a little obsolete when these have traction as good as they do.

Juan Covilla I own a Cupra 300 and recently out paced a 2019 JCW Clubman 306 BHP which I believe has the same engine as the M135i. I have also outpaced an S3 and Golf r, I am not saying my car is the quickest but it certainly is not as slow as the one on this video. My car is stock .

Looks are definitely a personal thing and I quite like the fact the M140i is a bit understated. A lot of people like the looks of the RS3 but I actually think it looks a bit boring, if I was basing it on looks I definitely like the exterior of the A45 best!

Personally been owning the GTI Clubsport for over 2 years (with same engine & turbo as the Golf R.) And all the power it have i can just tell you for everyday driving youd be hard pressed to feel that you need more power than that. ALSO id like to say, not everything is about power. For me something i lack in the Golfs are as comfortable seats like in a Volvo. Really wish it had that.. Not to say the seats in Golf are bad. Theyr good, just not as comfortable as example a bigger Volvo.

Not hugely unexpected to me I’ve had a Golf R and M140i. Thought it’d be close with the A45 but M140 owners regularly report 350bhp+ on rolling road. That torque and gearbox makes it hard for rivals to live with!

You should’ve done a drag between the S3 and RS3. (Btw it’s unfair with the RS3 as it’s the pre facelift model, so not the newest one with the most power)

The new one is way more expensive than all the other cars so it makes no sense. As expensive as an M4 CP which would win easily over a 1/2 mile I would imagine.

@@93sal yea its overpriced as well. All mercs are overpriced. They have noce interiors but jesus. I drove an E400d the other day. Sticker price was 60k. I'd maybe pay 35k for a new one. 60k is insane. You can get a new 435d for late 30's. 435 is a much better car to drive. Merc have nicer interiors but not worth the extra cost. Madness.

Why u acting surprised he drove the M140i on archie Hamilton's channel. Remap the m140i for £300 and you have an absolute animal it's as fast as an M4 CP in a straight line. Go up to well over 400bhp. To be fair stock they have a lot more than 335bhp lol.

@@donRageme as a meg 3 rs owner i must say they are reliable cars, 3 was bulletproof, 4 is ok. But i also admit a meg rs is not s drag racing car. It's designed with absolute best cornering abilities in mind.

As a happy m140i owner. Even I can see the car is slightly modded. Remus exhaust and motech stance pack. Results still seem accurate based on experience with an A45 which I pulled on after 70

Yes, but so it should considering its £50k. I'd love an RS3 but I just couldnt justify the premium and there just isnt any good deals on them compared to BMW. I own the m240i and whilst it has its faults the b58 engine is incredible. I'd swap it for an RS though.

David Amor id like to see that, see how the light weight of the fwd then holds against the AWD. Type R would have the golf R, probably close with the A35 🤔

@@steveb3914 I had an astra vxr running 310hp my mate has a rs3 the 367hp version and from 70-140 roll he won by 2 car lengths. It's not just the lightweight aspect but the fwd cars also suffer less transmission loss than the others.

Only fair way is a drag all at the same time. These are pretty inaccurate results but still fun trying lol
