HamptonsFilm: A Conversation with Joel Schumacher

We join the film community in mourning the loss of legendary director Joel Schumacher, who passed away today at the age of 80.
In 2014, the Hamptons International Film Festival celebrated Joel Schumacher with the Golden Starfish Lifetime Achievement in Directing Award, presented by HamptonsFilm Advisory Board member Jeffrey Sharp. Renowned for his versatility, style and ability to move seamlessly between film genres with equal popular success and critical acclaim, Schumacher also took part in our A Conversation With series, hosted by Jess Cagle, with surprise special guest and frequent collaborator Kiefer Sutherland.
Known for such iconic fare as ST. ELMO'S FIRE, THE LOST BOYS, COUSINS, FLATLINERS, DYING YOUNG, FALLING DOWN, THE CLIENT, and A TIME TO KILL, Schumacher also directed two installments of the Batman film franchise (BATMAN FOREVER and BATMAN & ROBIN),
As his career entered the 21st century, Schumacher brought audiences the films 8MM, FLAWLESS, TIGERLAND, PHONE BOOTH, BAD COMPANY, VERONICA GUERIN, THE NUMBER 23, TRESSPASS, and his 2004 film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musical THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.

Lucas Corey Haim was killed because he exposed Hollywood. Although he didn’t name any names out of fear, he brought a lot of attention to the problem on his last reality show when he confronted his friend/enemy Corey Feldman about how he would set him up to be raped by many subhumans in Hollywood (even though he was a victim himself). But now he’s going around and acting like the hero and has yet to name any names. Joel Schumacher is one of those names.

This subhuman even bragged about having sex with over 20,000 people. As ugly as he is, it’s obvious most of it was not consensual. There’s only 365 days in a year so if it was 1 different person each day, it would take 54 years to get to that number. How is that even possible unless he was involved in human trafficking ring. I feel bad for all the victims.

It takes guts to say "I'm sorry. I thought I made a good movie, but apparently I didn't. I apologize", but that's what Joel did for his Batman-movies. But other than that, he made some really great and fascinating films. RIP, Mr. Schumacher :)

The great Jeffrey Boam didn't write Raiders, he wrote Last Crusade, Lethal Weapon 2, Innerspace and Funny Farm! He dead in his early 50s and he was one of the best screenwriters in Hollywood. Read his scripts if you ever get the chance!!

I truly believe Joel would have made an amazing Batman Beyond movie with Keaton. Lost Boys meets the original version of Batman Forever, would have been redeeming for him but Studios are dumb as shit.
