Here is a video of a radio I have yet to play with, the Yaesu FTDX3000. Than you to GigaParts.com for letting me play with this radio. You want something at a more affordable price, with a good build quality and a name people know? The FTDX3000 will fit a lot of operators, and a lot of operators will know what you are talking on. HF and 6 meters, USB connectivity and some good sounding audio. Check it out on this video, and you can check out the price at GigaParts.com.

The FTDX 3000 was my first HF rig. I ran it for 2 to 3 years with exceptional results. Real pleasure to use.I have since moved onto the FTDX 5000MP and will use the 3000 as a field radio. Thanks Eric 👍

Best rig I’ve run. Sensitivity and selectivity are fantastic with this rig. It forces you to actually “use it“ to pull in those weak DX signals. In just four weeks in what everyone calls “bad conditions“ I’ve reached three continents with this rig using a basic dipole and 100 W. Farthest QSO has been 8100 miles away. Not too shabby at all. Love the FTDX 3000!!

Great video, I have owned one of these for the past 2 years. Would you believe I won this radio at a DX convention in Visalia, CA. Spent $20.00 on raffle tickets and that was my lucky day. It performs great in all modes, highly recommend this radio. Keep up the good work and videos.. 73 from Chandler, AZ. K7NWF

Just got my FT-DX3000D, and I absolutely love it. My first new radio, got it hooked up to my Chameleon MPAS antenna and had a great time with it this morning. Easy for this new Ham to figure out, with minimal manual reading. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this radio, great value for the money.

Just a few comments in reply to your queries on the video. The micro tune socket is for the optional yaesu high Q preselectors. The CW speed has a knob control too - it would freak CW OPs out if they had to go via a menu. The rotator socket is covered as it's not used by many but there is a socket there. The 13.8v output is for low power accessories, an external auto ATU for example. The scope can go full screen by pressing scope a few times. The ATU doesn't need a push and hold each time, if active on or around a recently tuned frequency it will switch to its LC combination. Full retune only required if a change in antenna or you significantly move off the tuned frequency. Hope that helps. 73 DE Mike M0SAZ.

I've had the 3000 for about a year and am still learning. Tremendous receiver. One adjustment is to change the default contour value from negative whatever to about +12 or so. It really makes the signals jump out of the noise when enabled. 73 and have fun. Cliff W3KKO

This is going to be my first HF rig. I did consider the IC-7300, and the 991A... but I'm a sucker for knobs and buttons. This will run straight into my SDR and give me the full screen pan adaptor in any case. The other thing is that I watched a few KZbin vidz and the noise reduction on this unit is mental for the money as far as my ear can tell. I'm a new HAM in my 50's, and I am looking forward to spending many happy years with the 3000. 73's. Drew KD9PBT

A touch screen breaks, you've lost the radio, a button breaks, you've lost your squelch. I think digital & old school reflects differently on people, bit only depending on their age I'm old (ish) and I like old, not really a digital person, and definitely no tech

Was about to buy a 7300, but being able to receive outside the ham bands, three antenna connections, having the ability to plug in a cheap sdr for panadapter without modifying the radio and the excellent sound/transmit quality made me dump the 7300 and choose this radio. After you get past the pretty interface on the 7300, there's just not a lot there.

I am looking to get my first dedicated HF rig. I have a 991A and MD200 mid, I was leaning towards the FTDX-101D but cannot justify the price. The ICOM7300 is nice, but I like Yaesu and my MD200 mic doesn't work properly with the MD200. Then theres the FTDX-3000. Seems to be perfect for me, and the fact is has an IF/RX out that can go straight into my SDRPlay RSPdx and also use CAT control, Im sold.

I may have said it before but I got off the air in 83-84, in 2015-16 I told my wife I was thinking of starting up again. So, the early part of the year my wife bought me an FT-1200 and FT-400 for my birthday., then in 2017 she bought me the IC-718, and Ft-891 fr the van. The reason for this comment is I am thinking of the IC-7600/7610 and the IC-9700. if you were going to buy 2 more radios which would you look at?

@LastConfederateSoldier Back then I ran the Yaesu 902DM and a 101z as backup. I found the FT1200 was/is a good radio to startup again after 35+ years, not a lot of money so if I were to say I don't care for radio anymore I didn't waste a lot of money. I will keep it as a backup alone with the ic718 but seeing I'm staying on I need to buy something better. I was never a fan of the 7300 but I do like Icom.

Keep some wet wipes on the table, and wipe your greasy finger dabs before you turn it on. I think it's a great radio, but I would need my license before purchasing 1 of these. I use a CRT 6900n for 10,11,12m bands, and I can shoot skip with most of Europe from England. Once I upgrade my £40 Thunderpole with a decent 5/8 wave, I plan to shoot skip with the US 🇺🇸 too. Hey Eric, you do a lot of videos and put a lot of time into them. Why not do a review on the Yaesu FTDX 5000? Top 10 Sherwood, number 1 AARL receivers list... even over the 101D. It’s a great rig for you to review. It’s an older “Legacy rig” but has held its own for a decade. Hard to imagine with all of the improvements ham radio receivers have seen in the last 10 years. Merry Christmas to you and yours Eric.

I am contemplating selling my 7300 for the 3000, reason ? well I'm actually really surprised my little cheap FT-891 has so much better NB and NR, it amazes me how well it can pull out a weak signal compared to my 7300. I love the 7300 but I was so impressed with the DNR on the 891 that it makes me think the 3000 is a far better radio if you care more about performance, sound quality and noise reduction than fancy looking waterfalls. The only real issue I have is that I work shift and can work the 7300 remotely which is very convenient and this is the main reason I got it to be honest so I would find it hard to let go. I only wish the NB and NR was a lot better on the 7300 which can sound harsh and tiring after a while.

Picked up an FTdx10 this past week. Sort of wondering if I should have picked up one of these instead. What are your thoughts? One negative Ive noticed on the dx10 is that when using the DNR it sounds very “hollow”....like someone talking into an old coffee can. This is not the issue with the ft-991. My 991 doesn’t sound like that when using the DNR. Maybe Im missing something? My primary use of HF is 20, 40, and 80 stateside coast to coast contacts and nets

I don't have a FTDX-3000 but I have the 7300 and ft-891 and the FT-891 beats the 7300 NR and NB hands down, the little FT-891 can really pull out weak signals much better than the 7300. That being said love my 7300 and the waterfall is very convenient, the 3000 has some kind of waterfall that is probably good enough, at the end of the day the 3000 is supposed to sound a lot better and is generally a quieter receiver, the 7300 can be tiring to listen to after a while. I'm actually considering selling the 7300 and getting the FTDX-3000 only problem is I can remote operate the 7300 from work, I work Shift and it is convenient at night to be able to work the radio 45 miles away or when I leave the country.

@@o00scorpion00o Many thanks for the detailed and clear reply! Really much appreciated. I also need to remote operate the receiver, that is a decisive factor for me. Do you use the remotehams software or the RS-BA1?
@o00scorpion00o
@o00scorpion00o 4 жыл бұрын
@@ATCATL Yes I use RS-BA1, it's not the most reliable software and I frequently need to log into the server computer to close and start the remote software but when it works it works fine. Remote access is essential. I have no fixed line internet and have to have 4G via 2 meter pole and 4G Antenna on my Chimney but it works with some occasional stuttering, if you can get your modem close to the 7300 server computer and use LAN connection, this isn't possible for me. There is also bad stutter at times if using a Bluetooth headset however, Bluetooth headphones work fine when connected to "headphones" and not "headset" there is too much of a delay when on headset so I use headphones and then use the MIC on the Laptop at work and it will take some time to set it all up but disable the noise reduction on the Laptop and any other enhancement that might be effecting or controlling the laptop Microphone. Of course you can try a good USB headset or just use the Laptop speakers but I prefer a headset. Using a remote SDR is a good way to hear what your Audio might sound like at the other end but some compress the audio a lot such as the Kiwisdr so it might not give an accurate representation of what your Audio will sound like but it helps.
@ATCATL
@ATCATL 4 жыл бұрын

@@ATCATL No I haven't tried remotehams , I will check it out. The RS-BA1 is fine for most of my remote usage, with remote access I can log into the server laptop and restart the application and it usually gets it back working, 99% of the time.

My FTDX10 is epic. Never ran a 3000. RX performance on the DX10 is better.

I'm sorry to say this, but I don't have time to watch you learn the radio. I'd rather you prepare a demo & walk-thru and then post in a more concise & structured way that I can remember. . I tune into youtube channels to learn from others quickly, instead of having to figure it out myself. Not that I don't enjoy your friendly chatter about ham radio concepts, but I tire quickly when you're not telling me anything. I'd be better spending my time reading the manual. This was 24 minutes of learning nothing more than "this radio has all the features I'd expect".

Mark Phillips why don’t you put your efforts into creating your own KZbin videos instead of wasting time watching and commenting on mine? You would probably do a much better job.

I agree 100%. 24 minutes of video and nothing that couldn't be read from a brochure or webshop description. When he was describing the rear side vein on my forhead started pulsing.

Too old fashioned for me. Ideal if you are older and don't like touchscreens. I'll stick with SDR.
