Thankyou for clearly explaining the source of my hamstring pain. I'm a cyclist and have recently taken up running, but since increasing distance and speed (5k under 30 minutes) I have repeatedly been getting hamstring strains. I now know exactly where the strain is and that it's probably as a result of hamstring/quad imbalance, which after more research is probably down to seat/cleat position not engaging the hamstrings enough. I'll now do some KZbin research and find out what training Triathletes do to ensure that they have the appropriate upper leg muscle balance.

Squat and deadlift are good for balancing quad/hamstring.

Good mornings are also good for preventing hamstring tears as they stretch the hamstring under load.
