Obadiah Parker has been around for awhile. He became bigger once his cover of "Hey Ya" by Outkast was played on the show Scrubs.

His cover of Hey Ya was never played on Scrubs, what got him famous was someone recorded his version at a free mic night and then took it to their work who happened to be a radio DJ and played it that morning. The city lite up the phones wondering who it was and he explained to them it was Parker. It got so big that eventually Outcast heard his version and approved on it and gave the rights to use the song for free. The version on Scrubs you heard was done by Ted.
