Hancock Gourmet Lobster on Throwdown with Bobby Flay - Lobster Mac & Cheese.

Cundy's Harbor, ME - December 2010 - Cal Hancock thought she was filming an episode for a new Food Network show about New England food. She was just about to start making her famous, award-winning Lobster Mac & Cheese when Bobby Flay walked in and challenged her to a Lobster Mac & Cheese "Throwdown". Surprise does not adequately describe how she felt.
"It was slightly intimidating to see Bobby Flay walk in and challenge me to a Lobster Mac & Cheese "Throwdown," said Hancock. "He is a famous chef and restaurant owner and television personality - talk about throwing me for a loop". She accepted the challenge and they quickly went to work making their own versions of the comfort food.
To the delight of the crowd Hancock won the "Throwdown". "I was confident that our Lobster Mac & Cheese would win, but Bobby's version was quite delicious." said Hancock . "The judges took their time to decide so it was a bit of a nail-biter." Judges for the episode were Jim Martin of Lucky Catch Lobster in Portland and Tony Poulin, head of the SMCC Culinary Arts program.
"Our gourmet Lobster Mac & Cheese has been a hit ever since we introduced it in 2007. It's rich and delicious and, of course, loaded with big chunks of Maine lobster meat," Hancock said. The Port Clyde Lobster Mac & Cheese has won two Gold Awards at the International Fancy Food Show in New York. It is made with Maine lobster and shell pasta enveloped by a creamy mascarpone-cheddar sauce and topped with a crunchy mix of panko bread crumbs, herbed butter, lemon zest and parmesan cheese. Bobby Flay is one of the original Iron Chefs on the Food Network. In addition to his seven restaurants, Flay shares his knowledge through his 9 cookbooks and his many national cooking shows on the Food Network and is also a Food Correspondent for "The Early Show" on CBS where he regularly informs a national audience about seasonal dishes and ingredients.

I like these Bobby Flay cook offs! Close but not the same as BBF! It was obvious that these were two very delicious Mac & Lobster cheese dishes ..... even on video they tasted great!🥂 It was probably SO close, and both of the judges being from Maine, they were probably well aware of who made which dish ...remember I said "So Close", choosing the "Home Team" was not a bad choice! Which is really the purpose of the show...... promoting small business restaurants! Kudos Bobby!
