3DCGアニメじゃなくて、伝統的な2Dの手描き宇宙船には正道なのだ! More reference material for people animating big ships, proving once again that instaed of lazy CG, "REAL MEN ANIMATE SHIPS BY HAND." The Kaiser demands it!

This video is how I first was exposed to Legend of the galactic heroes. I watched Tie Fighter, looked through the other content on this channel, found this, and though "Hey, this anime looks kinda cool". Man, if only I had known what a ride LOGH was going to be... truly an amazing anime.

God I miss the days of hand-drawn ships like this, they really did more for the cartoon than these CG ships today, even if it must have been a Bitch for the animators to get them right.
@JarieSuicune3 жыл бұрын
So, you're basically pointing out why, for them as animators, it was good to move to CG?
@Gustav_Kuriga8 жыл бұрын
The issue isn't CGI being the lazy way of doing things, it's the producers of the anime not ensuring the cgi is high quality. Instead they cut corners on the CGI, letting it look like out of place dogshit rather than proper, well-done cgi.
@TimTams_647 жыл бұрын
Which means he is right in calling them lazy, CGI sucks for Anime, Sailor Moon Crystal a perfect example.
@Gustav_Kuriga7 жыл бұрын
Tim Tam's Except you keep placing the blame on CGI as a form of animation, rather than, say, the art director who is supposed to be making sure it looks good. There's plenty of examples of traditional art anime that looks like shit as well, it isn't something purely in the realm of CGI.
@TimTams_647 жыл бұрын
***** I dont blame CGI well animated CGI is great, lazy CGI that cut corners on 2D animation to either save costs or save production times is bad and looks awful like Berserk, so the point still stands.

I agree, just watch Yukikaze, it's a great example of high quality CGI vehicles in a predominantly 2-D setting.

There is a clip within the first few episodes of the ova, where a door opens in an aircraft they got me with that. The artstyle, the details and the decisions behind the overall look (including the animation) is very well made, is amazing the amount of care that was put behind this show, to tell a story of this scale, that even tough it was made in 1988 it has aged much better than other shows of that same time, if you look a seint seiya for example, even tough is beloved and well remmembered is a show that is harder to watch today because its limited animation.

Dood this stuff is awesome, please tell me you make a living doing something creative like this all time. Your animations deserve greater recognition across a wide audience. Your leaked SW animation is absolutely fantastic and I realize that it is a work in a progress, but even the smallest fragment of the greatness contained within your visionary, as both a craftsman of animation style and storytelling as a concept artist, are totally bomb and awesome. please steer me towards more as I am interested in the creative work you do.

People in the past: "Animation will be amazing in the future!" What we got: One Punch Man, 7 Deadly Sins, Attack on Titan, Berserk, and the Junji Ito collection being animated by underpaid and overworked artists. Or sometimes, by cheap animation studios.

The funny thing is that we would love to do something like this but the cost of doing this by hand out weighs what we could get from doing it in 3d. Honestly speaking when I animate I rather animate people by hand while vehicles and builds or things of that nature in cg/3d. I look at these and know damn this is magnificent knowing that this took forever but had a great creative staff.

@xZaCloudx Perhaps he meant mass, which is present regardless of gravitational force. According to Newton's Second Law of Motion Force = mass * acceleration, which can also be expressed as acceleration = Force / mass; the more massive an object is, the more force will be needed to change its speed or direction at a specific rate. Maybe he was trying to say that the ships' center-of-mass being concentrated more towards the front end of the ship made it more difficult to maneuver, but I digress.

Not at all! Mass distribution affects the ship's performance in two ways: First, centre of gravity must be aligned with centre of thrust, lest the ship experience torque every time main engines are operated. There's some leeway, depending on differential thrust and gimbal systems on the engines. Secondly, mass distribution affects the ship's moment of inertia, which describes how hard it is to change the ship's attitude. A lot of mass far from centre of gravity causes high moment of inertia.
@xwingcommanderwhbiv11 жыл бұрын
only if the thrust compensates, weight distribution in real spacecraft is critical.
@Wolfen4439 жыл бұрын
I wish that someone like Jackson, Emmerrich even could direct a film or two about it. I suppose that the series is too large for live action, but at least a summarize 6 parts films series could be great.

Possibly, but not necessarily. He could also just not have have had them yet. And it probably doesn't matter for his purposes, since it's reference material. Unlike photographic reference material, low-res should be fine for hand-drawn art because a line is a line. Or he might not have a BluRay player on his computer.
@bored_person8 жыл бұрын
There are tons of perspective errors. It looks like the ships are constantly changing shape whenever they rotate. Your method of tracing over CGI is much better than both cel-shading and this.
@TKnightcrawler11 жыл бұрын
Are you daft? The reference material isn't available in 720 because it's older.
@FlawedIntellect11 жыл бұрын
Well, yeah, a lot of effort goes into 3D models, but they have no place in 2D animation, except as a reference point for animators to study (or for CGI appearing as CGI on computer displays, like how it is for Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers, or in Ghost in the Shell.)

purely talking from an animation perspective (not a plot or character perspective, let's be objective here), Aldnoah.Zero has very good CGI that doesn't jump out at you as being out of place, as can be seen in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpOWiqV7YpyYsJI If you're looking for it, of course you'll be able to tell it is CGI, but that means you were going in ahead of time looking for something to complain about.
