The perfect project for those who want to make a sink but cannot throw on a potters wheel. Easy step by step instructions for paddling and hammering a lump of clay into a perfect round. Then slump moulding the slab over a round form and draping the clay to form beautiful folds. Stamping, texture and glazing is all covered in this video.

Thanks for this!! Since our conversation, I really appreciate you showing how to make a sink vessel, if I had the money you were wanting to make me one I certainly would do it in a heartbeat, but being a starving artist it's just not possible YET.

Thank you because I am a beginner potter and can’t throw on a wheel. I’ve been taking classes for a year. I’m getting a small kiln.

Amazing as always ! Your results are gorgeous Vaughan! 🤔 I'm thinking a big bird bath using your techniques. ....and a half bag of clay. 12 1/2 pounds of clay will be more than enough of a challenge for me 😊!

Another excellent video Vaughan. Hand building gave me such a different feeling of satisfaction from throwing. It was as if I was more connected to the finished product. After watching Korean Kimchi pot bases being pounded with a mallet I had a similar mallet made, it was such a hand saver. Your video will surely have folk thinking of all they can make using a large bat on a lazy susan. Great stuff! Cheers...Freddie

Thanks Freddie. My hand was sore after that. Time for a 2x4. We have masses of snow in the storm this weekend. The winds are howling. I hope you are missing it.

Beautiful, Vaughan! You’ve given me some ideas about how to glaze items that won’t fit easily into my glaze buckets. Sponging!!!!

I really enjoyed this one. Awesome result. Didn't even consider making something like a bowl sink without a wheel. The drape technique is inspired. I'd love to see one come out of a reduction kiln in copper red.

I am impressed. I have been considering making a basin having had a request for one, but feel nervous about it. It is one thing to have a large bowl break, but if it was a sink it would be much more of a hassle. Does it worry you?

I remember you making sink's in High Falls, you made one for the Spy that I installed in their bathroom I was renovating, was that when you first started making them?

Hi Harry, how are you doing? My first sinks were back in 2001. I miss "The Northern Spy", especially the Tofu wings. We talked to Jamie Midgely today, he moved to Cherry Hill Road. Strange to think I moved here 13 years ago. Say hi to Sheila.

we recently discovered your channel and are loving the content, including how you "think outside the box" at times. We are newbies at pottery. Am I correct in saying that you single fired this? If so, what cone clay did you use?

Thank you. It was much easier than I initially thought! On a side note, I would like to see how you made the barn mugs. I've watched your other mug videos but it look like the emblem on the side was applied and in some want the stamp was enhanced? Very curious.

I noticed you didnt use any clear glaze on the sink. Im thinking now that may have been my issue when first using high fire glaze colors on high fire clay. I put 3 coats clear glaze on after the glaze color. They all came out so ugly looking. Do you not need clear glaze with high fire glazes?

If you are using cone 6 glazes you do not need to add a clear over the top. If you are using cone 6 underglazes you do have to cover with a clear cone 6 glaze.
