Love your approach to each piece. I do a lot of power carving but watching your videos has inspired me to do hand chisel carving . Turning my spare bedroom into a studio. My golden retriever , my constant companion, would watch me work from the coolness of the glass back door in the kitchen. She watches patiently from the rainbow bridge now.But my new golden pup will be with me on this journey. The studio will be hers too. Looking forward to what you’ll be creating next. And thank you for the inspiration. Rob

Thank you so much for the kind comment! I personally love the traditional carving with gouges. It’s what made me addicted to the craft. I’d consider myself kind of a hybrid carver though because I feel there’s value in power carving and it can achieve certain looks and get a carving to a place that can be very difficult with traditional gouges. There’s a time and a place for every tool! Congrats on your carving space too! It’s so great when you have a room dedicated to your craft.

Very nice! I've tried carving cottonwood bark and got frustrated because it would break. I should give it a try again. I normally carve American walnut, hard maple, white oak, beech etc. I ground all my chisels at a steeper angle for hardwood. I just found your channel so I'm enjoying your videos. I like that use use the same tools and carving style as myself.

Thank you! Yes cottonwood is very brittle which I was surprised about when I first carved it. Once you get it figured out it's really enjoyable though. I haven't carved much for hardwoods, that's an area I should probably explore more. I carved oak once several years ago and I wasn't a huge fan. I try to stick to softer woods as much as I can. It's easier on the hands and gouges.

I started carving basswood and butternut. I was not pleased with the look of the wood and I'm not into painting or stains. I tried hardwood and did not like it at first then I learned to use a mallet properly to include using micro-taps for detail work. I then decided to regrind all my chisels to 28 degrees and I have never looked back! Hardwood is a joy to carve after you learn how. Plus it sands and varnishes well. Keep up the excellent videos! @@ChiseledOutdoorsCC

Thanks! No I don’t have much cottonwood where I live. I primarily use pfeil chisels.

Fantastic job. No carving is ever perfect to the one who carved it. Adding the fine detail is also my favorite part. As soon as you started adding the rocks and bushes it really made the whole piece pop and come together. Plus I think it was a wise choice not to add the brick detail. All and all its an impressive piece

I’ve gotten my bark on Etsy before but I’m still shopping around. I’m honestly still looking for a consistent place to order it from.
