@@AndysCornishCreations Thanks. Yes, since getting interested in carving I've found so many resources on KZbin - Doug Linker is excellent as you say, also notable I think dywoodcarving, ddalo, and many more that won't come to mind at the moment. I find it difficult to translate from watching someone else make a cut, to doing it myself - presenting the knife at all the right angles, depth of cut, movement of knife etc. That makes it slow progress for me still, but generally I'm fairly content with the final result. I think practice is key as you say. Looking forward to having a go at your gnome/gonk - might even make a few tweaks to get a santa gonk? All the best, Chris

@colinwatmore70412 ай бұрын
@AndysCornishCreations I had the same dilemma about a year ago, as to which lathe to get. I already had a bench top lathe, but no reverse and size limitations. I still use it for pens and smaller tasks occasionally. I looked at the record power maxi, but found that they weren't making it any more and couldn't find out why. It ended up between the RC Regent, RC Envoy and the Nova Nebula. The Regent won out in the end, didnt go as slow as I'd have liked but the Nova seemed heavily into computer science and I thought more likely to go wrong, and another against on the Maxi was the five belt settings, it's bad enough with three. I got the outboard rigger but haven't used it yet, I dont turn a lot (any) metre wide bowls. I wish I had got the lathe bed extension instead, maybe when I'm home next year. One of the most useful things is the turning headstock as it saves awkward positioning and reaching when hollowing out, much more comfortable. I'm sure you will do your research though. You could always go to Yandles I suppose, is it near enough to you? Best of luck in the future, looking forward to your update on build video. Took in a fair few of your catalogue whilst you were off the tube, some goodies in there aren't there... all the best mate, Colin

Hi Georgio... I use an ordinary strop with green polishing compound for the backs and I have a Flexcut slip strop which is made for stropping gouges and V tools for the internal surface..
