You should definitely consider getting a vinyl cutter like a Silhouette, Cricut or Craft Robo. They are cheap as and really open up the opportunities and ideas for inlays.

I was shocked that you didn't just glue the paper cross to the wood and then cut it out.
@KingBespokeCreations2 жыл бұрын
I would normally for a single cut out, but as I wanted multiple cuts from one sheet that wasn’t possible

Why did you not use the router in the smaller ones too with a .5mm bit on it Would have saved you a lot of time and with it being .5mm you would still have got the accuracy you are after ? Just a thought

Simple answer, I dont have one! But also I like to show an alternative for those who don’t have them either 👍

@@KingBespokeCreations i understand, but was wondering why you didn't do that seeing as you had that, but if you don't have the piece then obviously that's a no go

Looking good Chris. Like the idea of the uv resin, how long does it take to harden under the light?
@KingBespokeCreations2 жыл бұрын
About 60 seconds!

Beautiful as usual! I wondered, do you think it’s possible to add colour into the uv epoxy? In a similar vein to the gold leaf, but either a layer of dye/ colour or mixed with the glue then cured. Then you could do some crazy shapes without needing anything to fit into it. Just a random thought.
@KingBespokeCreations2 жыл бұрын
There are many powder and dyes for resin and they should all with the UV stuff 👍

I like to collect wood dust from my drum sander to mix with acrylic casting resin. This way I can put whatever color "wood" I want in my inlay cavities, and it's ACTUALLY WOOD. Leave it convex above the fingerboard, so you can sand it flat. This will expose the wood powder and it will not look like resin..or leave it concave and it will never get scuffed by sanding or later by string bending.

I'm pretty happy with plain dots to be honest, but in the spirit of the question, maybe dots that on closer inspection are in fact little moons in the waxing and waning phases. With a full moon at the 12th. Maybe made from moonstone with black agate for the dark side ... probably not an original idea but I would enjoy those on my neck.

I like side dots, and a flourish at 12 look. But I like them simple, I'm a machine woodworking guy more. I had the CNC for that, but lost it in the shop fire, 2 years ago. You have great hand skills, Chris
