I love when they ‘foot up’ I’ve noticed other birds do this too. I don’t know if it’s a ‘thank you’ or ‘I trust you’ or ‘don’t be afraid of me’ but they are definitely trying to communicate something. I ‘foot up’ when ever I notice a bird watching me just to see their reaction.

@Bunkiebe These are European robins. The robin with the white eye rings you are talking about is the American robin, which is actually a type of thrush :) It was named after the European robin because they both have red-orange chests.

There are two robins in the factory where I work. I worried about them flying into a window or being poisoned but two years now and they watch me all the time knowing that I unwittingly drop food for them. They come real close and I'm amazed at their agility and their boldness. My favourite wee bird. I love my robins
@KestrelHarper Жыл бұрын
I'm an American and, no lie, one of my biggest regrets after my first trip to the UK this year was not getting more time to watch these little robins. I LOVE European Robins, they've got so much personality and are so much prettier than American robins in my opinion. And of course, every time I came across one in my travels there were other tourists in the area who would scare them away from the paths, it was such a shame.

Yesterday I was out breaking up soil in my vegetable patch and noticed a Robin watching me. I started to throwing him the worms that I found and he stayed there for an hour eating the worm I found. Today I walked into the garden and he immediately came down and started hopping around my feet. Hope I can hand feed him soon.

I am from India. Many bird species are found here. In my garden, I love to hand feed my friend birds. Like, peacock, bulbul (a type of bird with red patches on neck) , house sparrows, parrots, pigeons and doves. I also hand feed squirrels found in my garden

Feeding the birds brings me lots of joy, as a gardner I've always noticed birds around but never paid any attention really , someone close to me passed away , and they used to feed birds and foxes , I do that in there honor and it brings peace and a quiet content , 40 now , my teenage self must be rolling around in his grave lol stay happy bird friends

Once I walked in my holiday house’s kitchen and there was a robin sitting on the kitchen counter! He started to panic because he couldn’t find a way out, but we put some bird seed in a shoe box (with holes so he could breath) and released him back outside. I love robins they’re such happy friendly birds!

Definitely true! I see them very close up often, and I'm planning to feed them and other birds from my hand too.
@maggiesnuggs38524 ай бұрын
amazingly friendly, i've known one for two years, the trust built up in time to just touching her with my finger under her wing [not stroking]. she's smart, if i'm not in the back garden she'll find me in the front. favourite treat is live waxworms and mealworms especially when they breed and feeding their young, this is when i first met her, and oddly enough it was just after my mother passed away. it's a unique relationship and one i'll cherish the rest of my life.

A couple of years ago I noticed that robins in public parks liked to follow me and ever since I have spent occasional times feeding them different things, everything from slivers of apples, pineapples, various seeds etc. The very first time it was pretty amazing, it munched down the food and then sung me a little song. It knows me by my whistle and every time I pass the park I stop by to say hello, I think only once in two years he hasn't come to say hello, and that day he actually came to visit me in the pub nearby about two hours later. I have tried hand feeding him a few times but haven't had success yet but have gotten close.
@Jones5785 жыл бұрын
I cannot feed them by just hand but if I put a big leaf over hand and food on that they will happily come over. Hope that helps.
@8thsinner5 жыл бұрын
@@Jones578 A few days after asking this I had success with hand feeding, I have two primarily that I feed now and they seem to have a territorial issue between them, I call them fat red and skinny red, or FRed and SRena. Theres about 4 robins that have shown up plus a yellow belly bird once, only fed the two robins so far though. I haven't needed a leaf or anything, I just feed them with my hand either on the ground or the bench I sit on. They are both still a little skittish, Fred a little more so, even though fred almost always shows up first. But they do come and react to different whistles, fred comes to a triple whilsle, and srena to a double.
@Jones5785 жыл бұрын
@@8thsinner that is lovely great to hear of your success. Mine was quite picky. It would be perfectly fine sitting on my shoulder or knee but refused to eat out of hand unless leaf. Sadly the robin disappeared from our garden 10 weeks ago. I am hoping it was a territory change due to a new but untamed robin in garden. But fear it may have been neighbours cat that has lead to its disappearance.
@8thsinner5 жыл бұрын
@@Jones578 I don't know where you call home Hanna, but here in the UK I have noticed it takes longer for either of my main two to show up since the winter started, It would be sad to think yours are dead but I wouldn't give up. I have spent over an hour waiting for fred to show up some days, it depends on what time I go through the park too, he seems most busy during high sun, and usually only shows up quickly around 5-6 pm these days. You may find yours are just changing routines due to the time of year also. Despite fred showing up quicker most days, it's usually only srena that shows no fear in standing on my fingers on ocassion. Shoulder or knee would be cool. And still no short feat of trust by our little flying friends.

I have been on a mission to feed as many wild bird species as possible. I am up to 21. A Robin in Canada would be very difficult to accomplish and would likely require worms on the hand to attract them. Those Robins in the UK seem to be more sociable than the ones over here.
