Chickadees are brave little birds. They will eat from your hand if you're patient, but you can also get pretty close just to watch them while they're at the feeders.

Amazing 🐦 There was a time when we were feeding birds on our balcony. They were so used to us that they came into the room when the balcony door was open and sat on the back of our chairs and looked at us. Than the cats 🐱 of our neighbors got too curious so that we thought it's not safe anymore. We feed them now on another window where the cats can't reach. The birds in our garden /allotment are very shy.

Very good point! This is exactly why I won't handfeed in my backyard. We have a cat who goes outside but only on a leash. I would feel terrible if an accident happened because of that. The ones in my backyard get fed so they can keep a watchful eye out for predators.

We have had black capped chickadees; nuthatch; and downy woodpeckers land on our hands to eat before. We use a mix of black sunflower seed and millet and peanuts to attract them.

We could do that in the wintertime in Sakhalin, Russia. The small birds were so thankful for millet and would readily come in the coldest part of winter! I think the birds could measure who they could trust or not too, kind of what you said! Wonderful share🤩

I use to hand feed the Magpies, but since the drought has broken they seem to have left the area, I guess they have found their main source of protein, now that the ground has softened up!! Lovely share Donna!👍😀💯!
