Chickadees are brave little birds. They will eat from your hand if you're patient, but you can also get pretty close just to watch them while they're at the feeders.

I regularly see white-breasted nuthatches in my area, but I haven’t been able to hand-feed them yet. Working on sloooowly building trust! Such talented little acrobats, and those beeps are food for the soul🥹🥹

Amazing 🐦 There was a time when we were feeding birds on our balcony. They were so used to us that they came into the room when the balcony door was open and sat on the back of our chairs and looked at us. Than the cats 🐱 of our neighbors got too curious so that we thought it's not safe anymore. We feed them now on another window where the cats can't reach. The birds in our garden /allotment are very shy.

Very good point! This is exactly why I won't handfeed in my backyard. We have a cat who goes outside but only on a leash. I would feel terrible if an accident happened because of that. The ones in my backyard get fed so they can keep a watchful eye out for predators.

Thank you you the wife and I have been getting much more involved with our feeder and trying to learn. We have a lot of subjects at this particular point because I cannot name them correctly, but we enjoy all of the birds and squirrels that we are feeding. It is a daily regiment And we are getting to the point of naming them. Thank you for sharing your video.

Identifying birds definitely takes some time. I started by learning the ones with obvious bits of color or patterns. I still can't identify a lot of sparrows and wrens. Thanks so much for watching and the lovely comment!

Wonderful to see and hear the nuthatch and chickadee as they feed so easily from your hand. Great tips too. It is such a special pleasure to hand feed birds in the winter when food is difficult to find. The first time I tried hand feeding, a Tufted Titmouse flew onto my hand. We have had black capped chickadees; nuthatch; and downy woodpeckers land on our hands to eat before. We use a mix of black sunflower seed and millet and peanuts to attract them.

We could do that in the wintertime in Sakhalin, Russia. The small birds were so thankful for millet and would readily come in the coldest part of winter! I think the birds could measure who they could trust or not too, kind of what you said! Wonderful share🤩
