No fancy forge, forging press, power hammer, or CNC, yet one of the most beautiful pieces I've seen here. Thank you.

How were you not recommended in my search for blacksmiths? Upper body strength like a gorilla. That's some impressive hammering I just witnessed, beats having to need power tools to accomplish the same goal.

oh wow, that is beautiful! I've never done anything else than simple laminated steel, it always seemed to be very much work to try mosaic or feather damascus by hand.

Your video was amazing and the work also thought that you could not make damascus steel by hand, which was very difficult, but you can see it very easily, I want to try it, thanks from the city of Puebla in Mexico, many greetings.

Nice work, interesting how high you stack your billet. Would be interesting if it makes much difference if the stack were double the width by that hight... looking forward to do the same when my forge is set up :-)

the fact you did it by hand is really cool. All I ever see is the press or hammer doing these. What kind of time frame did it take you to do this. I have not tried forge welding to this point because it seems like you needed a press or hammer to do this.

About 10h of forging, I made it for 4 days every day new step, new folding.

You are very talented, ive bern trying to make damascus but the layers just wont stick, any tips? For example how do i know the rigth temperature
@PaveW4 жыл бұрын
It's not easy to get any tips, temperature control is very important especially on the first forge welding. Sometimes the billet looks hot enough outside but inside temperature its still too low, I like to keep billet longer in the forge before first forging. Care must also be taken to not over heath the billet because steel will lose carbon, and some of them may even crack. Also the first hammering on the billet should be gentle after some time when you can see that everything looks good you can strike much harder. The best you can do it's just keep practise.

its pattern-welded steel, not Damascus real woots Damascus is a single piece of metal that isn't folded the vanadium in the metal is what makes the pattern it still takes a lot of time to make this product and I'm not knocking on skill but we can't keep using the incorrect terms we don't call every shiny steel stainless steel.... pattern wielded steel was created in order to replicate the patterns of woots Damascus without having the access to the same ores the only real way to tell the difference is to look at the grain structure under a microscope
@PaveW4 жыл бұрын
I think that most people know it but colloquially everyone is saying damascus steel on it and it is hard to change it now. The truth is that we can't reproduce a real historical Damascus steel, woots are closer to the original, but still it's not.
