Here I demonstrate how I load my 20ga 1oz 2.75” TSS waterfowl load.
This load is going approximately 1350fps.
See my other video for patterns with 5 different constriction chokes.

One thing I do to make sure I don't double charge a case (double charging will be obvious in shotshell, but I still do it)... have the case mouths down in the block unless it has powder. Overall a great demo and load.

How worried are ya about the hardness of the TSS on the barrel and chokes , or is their nothing to worry about in that sense?
@avidwaterfowler7522
@avidwaterfowler7522 8 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, there are risks with any hard shot like steel, hevi shot, TSS, etc. Am I worried, maybe a little but I don’t let it worry me too much. With tss being perfectly round, small, and polished the likelihood of damage is relatively low. I’d say it much more likely with larger steel pellets as they can where through and they’re not as round. The bigger the pellet, the larger the bearing surface. That’s why some wads like the 12ga and 10ga tps look like Swiss cheese after being fired with big shot. The tiny tss pellets won’t wear through, usually.

@avidwaterfowler7522
@avidwaterfowler7522 6 ай бұрын
I think that would be an ok idea in 2-3/4”. The steel would just be a filler. I’m not very passionate about duplex loads the more I learn about the physics between steel and tss. You could probably take my load and use use one less felt cushion and get perfect stack height.

I’m thinking about loading my own TSS for Turkey 🦃 and maybe Waterfowl. Will this loading work Turkey Loads as well? No need to Roll Crimp???
@avidwaterfowler7522
@avidwaterfowler7522 6 ай бұрын
I absolutely think this could be a Turkey load. Think about it…. If you’d put 1oz of #9, you’d get 360 pellets! Just look at my regular full pattern with 7.5’s. You’d almost double the density with #9 shot. Now, couple the #9 shot with a turkey choke and I’d guess it’s a 50 yard turkey shell. A 3” 12ga #4 lead has 360 pellets in it. If you want to roll crimped it, you’ll have to trim the hull a little bit and you’d probably loose 50-75fps, but that’s not going to be an issue for a turkey load.

Could i just add a 1/8 inch cork and roll crimp these? And do you know the pressure of the load by chance?
@avidwaterfowler7522
@avidwaterfowler7522 11 ай бұрын
You could, but you need to most likely bump up your powder charge. Keep in mind, the cork filler would probably lower the pressure as well as the roll crimp and the FPS would be lower. You will also have some pellets outside of the wad because of the cork filler, but that’s not the end of the world. I’d guess you would have to bump the charge up 1-2grains for the same fps as my fold crimp.

@avidwaterfowler7522
@avidwaterfowler7522 6 ай бұрын
It most likely won’t hurt anything. You may want to lift up your stack height a little with some more felt such as a 1/16-1/8”. Also, you may have too much depth for setting your crimp. Maybe back off your crimp depth a little. Which machine are you using?

@avidwaterfowler7522
@avidwaterfowler7522 6 ай бұрын
@@user-nr5lq8ru3m if you are building the load the way I show, you should not have stack height issues. Are you using an overshot card? There is a possibility that trimming the hull may help if the load is not high enough, but an osc should fix that. Because you’re using 9’s your stack height will be a little less on the height. You can roll crimp this load, but it will most likely slow it down a little bit. I would try to get your crimp figured out. What is the issue with the crimp?

Is the extra 1/8 ounce of shot worth the extra costs?
@avidwaterfowler7522
@avidwaterfowler7522 11 ай бұрын
I would say no depending on shot size. If you bump down to 7/8oz in 7.5’s, you’d end up 195 or so pellets. That maybe what I end up exploring down the road. However, if I am running 7’s, I’ll stick with 1oz most likely since that’s about 185 or so pellets. I also have some 8’s and I’d be comfortable with just 3/4oz of those since that would still be 195 or so pellets. If I would ever consider 9’s, I honestly don’t know what I’d shoot… maybe a 1/2-to 5/8oz and some filler steel.

@@avidwaterfowler7522 That Mec pre crimp puts those three little dimples in the hulls and make the final crimp look....different, lol.. I'm going to Dremel those off some. Ruined a few hulls to get it, but I'm happy with what I finished with, it does seem as something isn't quite centered on this 600jr as the final crimp moves the hull a bit and favors one side. I loaded up about 50 of these, some with #7 15g/cc and some #9 18g/cc. They pattern great, recoil wasn't bad even from my light auto guns and o/u. Should make good goose and turkey loads. On to 1 oz Bismuth and steel loads next.

I can’t agree with you on wearing a barrel out. I usually test with buffer and without to see the difference. I ONLY use Mylar wrap with loads that have pellets over the protective shot cup. I’m my current case, I only use Mylar wrap on two different loads. My video showing my 10ga bismuth load utilizies Mylar wrap & PSB buffer. The patterns speak for themselves. I tried that load without buffer and a wrap and the patterns weren’t nearly as uniform. In this particular loads difference, it is not a huge deal. Tom Rooster published a manual for lead and bismuth loads for best pattern performance. He utilizes wraps and buffer quite frequently. He’s worth a look as he has been developing loads for over 40 years.
