Nice chopping boards. I loved the penny idea, I usually pyroart the date but that looks a really nice idea.

Given that the entire finished product is pure Sapele, I am wondering why you cut them into 2x2 chunks and reglue them together?
@tomsdreamshopworx3 ай бұрын
The size of a cutting board was wider than the wood boards that I started with. Also, big wide boards are not as stable to temperature and humidity changes. By cutting it into strips. I get a more stable cuttingboard and to the size that I wanted.

Love the video, thanks! Turns out I have a bit of extra sapele from a project that I was considering making a cutting board with. The finger grooves you make are great, but I don't have a tool that can do that. Do you have any ideas on what I can do to serve the same purpose?

Why cut the plank to pieces and then glue it back together again? What am i missing? Asking out of ignorance :)
@tomsdreamshopworx2 жыл бұрын
Several reasons. Size. Most wood boards are not big, so you glue to get the to get the size you want. Stability, One big board is less stable and more prone to twisting or cupping. Smaller pieces move less and though can change the grain direction to make it more stable. Hope that helps.

Do you get any snipe from your thicknesser when you make these?
@tomsdreamshopworx2 жыл бұрын
These were long grain boards, so snip was not a problem. All the grain was running the same direction. Hope that helps.

Why cut the wood and put it back together ?
@tomsdreamshopworx7 ай бұрын
There are several reasons one reason is dimension you wouldn’t be able to find a board wide enough and if you did, it wouldn’t be very stable because of the grain structure.

An alternative oil is edible flaxseed oil. Many large supermarkets have it. Same as linseed oil but non toxic.
@tomsdreamshopworx2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but flaxseed oil will go rancid. Not a good choice.

You know you're a KZbinr when you have to yell at your camera because it's out of focus. ;) Your use of a penny to date your pieces is a fantastic idea! Very nice boards and video!

Figments Made - Thank you! The penny can be hard to find early in the year. I usually buy a roll on line somewhere and pay about $5.00 for it.

@@tomsdreamshopworx I'd have to custom make my pennies because I'm Canadian, maybe I'll use quarters, usually use nickels as washers for things. Loonies are a nice gold color when they're new that would look good.

Sapele is such a beautiful wood. Keep practicing with the camera, it will eventually cooperate.

Missy George thx Missy! It does not auto focus like my iPhone does. It turns out he wants boards even darker, so now I will make 2 more from walnut.
