Good explanation, especially the advice for beginners. I see the overuse and false use of a handbrake waaay too often in grassroots drifting. The mx5 still hasn't a handbrake :)

Awesome video one of the few ones that actually goes a little more in depth, than the typical: "you use it to initiate a drift"-answer. One thing to maybe also mention is, the eBrake can impact the chassis behavior in totally different ways, depending on the rear suspension setup. Meaning, certain damper and shock configurations can make the chassis "reset" and actually make the car go faster after the handbrake has been quickly pulled (depending on the load and grip and speed of the car at that moment)

How does the e brake save you sometimes for crashing? If you’re under steering too hard? Or does it scrub of enough speed?(But why is the e brake better than the regular brake when saving?)

So you go in your car and start drifting and suddenly you know you are gonna go too far, what you do is pull the e brake which blocks the rear tires and lets you rotate the car so far that the rear of your car is facing the direction your driving and since it's the opposite direction of your tires spinning it's braking a lot. You can even go one step further and once you've rotated the car step on the gas which would mean you are trying to accelarte the car in the opposite direction of which you are moving in at the moment. Another example would be initiating the drift again. For example imagine you are in a drift and suddenly you let the car lose too much power the rear gets grip but your front tires are steering, you understeer. Understeering would them lead to you flying out of the corner but you have the brake which helps you break the understeer and turn it into oversteer, then you can use the clutch to build up some power and resume the drift.

Hm... interesting question. Without having looked into it in detail: It will probably be a challenge to make it work, especially regarding longevity.

You can drift with a handbrake in RWD and it doesn't matter the type of drive, you know like I saw it in Need For Speed ​​and that.
