I was confused at first because these are by far the most common style in my area.

Peerless one of the top 2 handcuff manufacturers all have the push pin locking mechanism on the side as opposed to the sidebar on the face.

Exactly I have no idea how people don’t know that yet peerless is all I’ve ever carried I keep a pair of hinged on my Belt & a pair of chain on my carrier.

peerless cuffs double lock with that pin on the side. Next to smiths, peerless are the next most common in my area. Im surprised an instructor would be unable to find them. Also NEW cuffs come with instructions - maybe people should read em. As for lever lock cuffs, I got a pair when they first came out - first time i used them with a struggling subject I caught the lever on my pouch and they locked before I applied them. I no longer use lever lock cuffs day to day. If I ever encountered a recruit with handcuffs that truly do not double lock, I would get them a new set of cuffs ASAP.

As soon as i saw the “transport” cuffs i was like oh yeah. The jail i work in uses those for inmate transports so immediately knew what they were. Interesting that people dont know that about those cuffs i mean yeah its a little difficult to spot at first glance but i always figured people would see it and get nosey and poke it and find it out. Nice video.

I’ve never seen handcuffs that don’t double lock that I know because majority of them double lock

I like lever locks because they’re more convenient. But they are also the only cuffs I’ve used that have failed on me. A few years ago one of my trusty ol’ pairs of S&W lever locks broke. I felt the lever click over a bit different and when I checked the fit, they clicked tighter. Everything breaks, kiddos. So just keep an eye on them. Don’t get sued because you didn’t check.

The first time I used lever lock cuffs on a struggling subject, I caught one of the levers on my pouch and locked it before applying the cuffs. Thankfully my second set was a regular set and I swapped to those. Lever locks are neat but I no longer trust them day to day because of that.

How can I get a set of the "fun fun bedtime" cuffs? My audience wants to know.
@Minuteman4Jesus17 күн бұрын
Yeah it's pretty specific... Left two are ASP, 3rd is a Smith & Wesson, 4th on the right is a Peerless. I've used pretty much all types except ASP.

I bought the ASP Sentry handcuffs after watching your first video on them. Best cuffs I've ever owned. But I will say, make sure you double lock them fast after applying them. It's very easy to tighten the cuffs when they are on you just by spinning your wrists inside of the cuffs. Its much easier to do this with the Sentry cuffs vs let's say the M100s by S&W.

Peerless are my favorite brand of cuffs and I personally use them exclusively. Learned how to use them in MP school and carried them over to civilian PD

I was given two pairs of those handcuffs as spares for my car from an FTO (that was leaving the road to go be a detective). It took me years to find the double locking button on the side. Luckily I never (and still have never) used them as I have plenty of other cuffs such as the ASP Ultras I carry on my person which use the yellow buttons on the side to double lock.

The fact you had to make this video is just sad. Those instructors should not even be instructors if they can’t figure other brands of handcuffs.

It's funny that neither the recruits or the academy instructors could find the push pin on those since that's a very obvious location and operating method for the double lock mechanism. I have zero law enforcement or corrections experience and I'd still check there first.

Yeah I’ve done security for years and as soon as I didn’t see the “normal” secondary dot push pin type mechanism in the video I was like check the sides!!! lol

Wait, what???? Actual arrest control academy instructors that DON’T know how to operate Peerless cuffs that have been the primary competition to S&W for the last 100 years? Huhhhhh???? Tommy, If it wasn’t you making this video, I wouldn’t believe it. Frankly, this is disturbing. Did they actually go through the full POST arrest control instructor training? I’m seriously at loss for words. Apparently nobody even bothered to read the little instruction pamphlet included with every pair. I actually thought this was going to be a video about not using knockoff Amazon specials.

My flabbers were gasted by the third person to tell me this that has Peerless cuffs. I think it is a classic case of people not being exposed to other options by large agencies that have a singular focus on only the gear they issue paired with an inability to admit that they don't know.
