Quality of her voice, accuracy, emotion, facial charm and expressions, performance as an actress, even movements of her fingers - perfect aren’t they? Rare performance of centuries.

Stupendous! Proverai di che fiere saette s’armi l’ira di donna tradita Come far sà ben tosto vendetta nobiltà, che si vede schernita. You will learn with what fearful arrows the wrath of a betrayed woman is armed. Nobility, seen to be scorned, knows well how to take swift revenge.

I am, frankly, interested in the preservation of the treasures of Western culture. BEMF, in my unlearned but interested opinion, did an absolutely wonderful job of restoring this sadly neglected 1705 composition from Hamburg to life. Thank you, your benefactors, donors, supporters, and creative and performing team, for all your stupendously successful efforts. But on the other hand, it seems a real shame, almost a tragedy, that the benefits of your efforts only went to an ephemeral audience. It would be so much better, and worthwhile in the great scheme of things, if their so successful efforts could have been preserved for posterity, or at least the entertainment and enjoyment of their fellows. It seems a shame that your efforts could not reach a broader audience. I know nothing about the financing of artistic efforts, but am frankly angry that so much dross, if not even stronger derogatory words, IS preserved for posterity by America's artistic and financial "elite", while your magnificent efforts were not. (I am thinking in particular of the comedy of bad taste that goes by the name of "Kennedy Center Honors".) Can you point to any publications, either in print or on the web, which speak to the issue of what musical productions do get videotaped and made available to a broader public (e.g., via PBS)? Thank you for any light you can shed on this issue of financing the preservation of musical performances.

Thank you for your support. Producing a commercial DVD of one of our productions would be a considerable undertaking, and I fear well outside our current levels of support. We do hope to share more of our archival videos in the future and are always exploring opportunities to restate our productions with an eye towards producing a DVD. We do hope to make a studio recording of Handel's Almira in the future, as we absolutely believe this is a masterpiece that deserves more attention. We will also present a concert performance of the work in Boston over Thanksgiving weekend this coming November.

We would describe the performances as "historically informed". Our Stage Director and Choreographer are experts on period performance practices and this informs every element of their staging. The importance of gesture and movement are especially vibrant in our productions. Opera was a popular entertainment during the Baroque period, and our staging also strives to represent this emotional relevance while still being grounded in the theatrical techniques of the period.

Dilettantes who don['t know the conventions of Baroque opera. When I was in Uni, a friend was the conductor of the Women's Choir and at the end of the first movement of one piece some in the audience started clapping. Becca's hand quickly and decisively snapped down and back as in, "STOP!! We're not done, you Phillistines!"
