After several hours of making calls to the C F O and local OPP offices I basically was told that I have a better chance of keeping ice cubes from melting in the oven than getting my permit back !!!

The 22lr revolver can also technically be used in olympic shooting (25m rapid fire pistol and sport pistol) It would of course not be a good choice for those competitions, but it may allow you to own it.

@@even9463 The problem is that, in order to identify especially talented individuals, you need "feeder" sports where people start shooting one thing, find they are pretty good at it (or are told so by someone else) and then encouraged to consider the Olympic categories. Without those feeder sports (and the ability to buy a handgun even for Olympic participation since you're not yet on an Olympic team), the sport will simply die on the vine. And not maybe. For certain. The vast majority of shooters do not come out of air gun sports.

Air pistol is very different from for example rapid fire pistol. 10m Air pistol is also an olympic event on the same level of rapid fire and sport pistol. In some of the worlds best countries in pistol shooting like china and russia, people normally start off with shooting air pistol and the best ones get to shoot 25m aswell. When I started competing I didn't have any interest in sport pistol, it was after the coach of the national team made me try it that I realized that it is a really fun and challenging type of shooting that doesn't allow you to make the same mistakes you do in rapid fire. I still think allowing people that don't take shooting too seriously to partake in our great sport is very important. And like you mention the sport would eventually die. I hope your laws will be changed in the future.

Prior to moving to the US, I spent many enjoyable hours in Ontario competing in Small and Large Bore Metallic Silhouette in the 80's and early 90's. Hate to see your gun rights being eroded even further. Rhetorical question, "Will any of these laws against law abiding gun owners do anything to reduce gun crime?" Answer, "No". Turdeau and Sleepy Joe are both Dictators, they both want the same thing, disarm the populace so they can push a Socialist agenda. Shooting sports teaches a young person self discipline, focus and perseverance, qualities that our Federal leadership in both the US and Canada lack and fear. @@guywerry6614 The situation in the US is far from out of control. First, we are dealing with a country of 330 million or more people, the majority of whom live in urban areas. Second, while there is gun violence, if you take the cities in the US where gun laws are the strictest, and remove them from the equation, gun violence rates drop significantly. Third, while the US media pays attention only to the criminal use of weapons, every day, armed citizens use weapons to stop or deter crimes. Four, in the Southern states, a private gun owner is, by law (at least it was this way a few years back) compelled to assist an officer in need of assistance, should he be carrying his weapon. The lunatics and criminals will always get weapons. Finally, when looking at the areas where crime occurs, and the demographics in which it occurs, 90% of crimes occur within less than 20% of the population.

I think you are optimistic that there will be an exemption. As another 12(6) guy, I read that the 12(7) class (your heir) is going away. For those outside Canada, 12(6) are short barrel and small caliber handguns. If older than 1946 they can be inherited, and the new owner gets a 12(7) license. 12(6) People can buy other 12(6) and 12(7) guns. 12(7) people can't. The goal all along was to see these heirloom Firearms go to the smelter

Don't quote me (because I'm not a lawyer), but my careful reading of the changes to regulations indicates that, yes, you would then still be eligible to purchase a handgun since it's for use in your occupation. There are nothing in the law saying it has to be a revolver but, for dispatching trapped animals (only if you're a licensed trapper) a .22 can be used. For protection you are limited to the high-power handguns capable of stopping a large animal. I'm quite sure you can add 10mm to that list, for instance. I don't think a .45 ACP or 9mm would be accepted though.

I only been to Canada at least two times when I was a child . However no memory of ever meeting them. Must’ve of been such a long time ago since my last visit .

I think it was extremely moronic for Trudeau to take an event that happened in the US and make it something that affects law abiding Canadian Gun Owners by further restricting their abilities to own firearms. i 've been arrested twice. can be a big problems. my son had a bb gun outside and i got raided. one guy i knew got divorced she said she was afraid and all gone. in a year of courts he got it all back. i had a friend get brocken into and he got charged with illegal storage but got it back after two years of court expenses. there are many stories like this. it can be a very hostile environment for gun owners, not like 60 years ago when guns were fun.

Personally, I'm glad to not be in their situation, but this is a debate that will never end, I guess. In the end, what makes me question the system in the states the most is that: a) we spend less per capita on health care here and b) We enjoy longer life expectancies. That's right. You can't take it home until you have obtained an Authorization To Transfer. Then, once you get it home, you can't even take it to the shooting range until you have received the registration card in the mail (something many handgun owners don't realize).

That's a very important point. The Olympic shooting organization in Canada is very unhappy with this proposed change to the law too because they recognize, in order to cultivate new medal winners, they absolutely depend on "feeder" sports that are not necessarily Olympic style events. That's how new talent is discovered and then encouraged to go further.

In some countries, that means no guns at all (Japan), in other countries that means no machine guns allowed (USA). I prefer less guns than more, because when SHTF, all the policeman will run away in US, seriously outgunned by gangs and lawless citizens with huge armory of weapons. In contrast, when SHTF in Japan, not many people have to fear gun anarchy like in USA. Personally, I would much rather live in Canada than USA.
